I love this! Such a unique idea and I can't wait to see where it goes!

I also find it interesting that, despite MLP being a Canadian cartoon, this is only the second PoE story I've seen that actually takes place there. (The other being Twilight's World)

It’s a SIGINT (Signals intelligence) station, they do Radio and signal interception and intelligence gathering.

The station is named after HMS Alert, which Wintered (which means it had to anchor due to ice pack I think?) 10km East of where the station is now between 1875 and 1876.

Edit: Yes an American that knows Canadian history DOES exist contrary to popular belief!
