I STILL have no idea what I'm doing, but can always wing it until I do.

T

I had a real name once. Don't remember it much anymore. Not surprising as it's been a few thousand years since I last used it. Now I go by the name Booker... or Pagey... or Mr. Wordsworth... or whatever name some adorable pony has graced me with and I'm too much of a doormat to say no. Dang it, Star Swirl, did you cast some spell on your descendants or something?

So yeah, I'm one of the latest victims of the Merchant. Really should have known better when I was offered that delectable limited-edition Touhou fanbook by some guy who looked like he was ripped from a Stephen King novel, but I'm too much of a bibliophile to pass something like that up, you know? Now I'm stuck in what should be a children's cartoon show with powers that no mortal being should have and enough baggage to choke a hydra.

At least I have my books, even if I do have to beat them into submission occasionally.

Hmm.... if i just knew what character he was displaced as, so that i can find out a few powers of his.
But definetly has a nice twist to it.
Found a few mistakes here and there but they are forgivable
*added later on*
I looked it up and its the spellcard for those touhou characters.
Now i cant stop imagining Mr.Wordsworth / Teller fighting like this!

This story seems interesting. I really liked the hero's interaction with Starswirl (and his poking stick) and Velvet. Keep up the good job.

but working at the palice has been an experience

========
Well, I doubt he is the Mr.Wordsworth seeing how he have powers but that could be from the Grimoire...

For those wondering about the several egregious spelling errors in that one letter, yes, that was on purpose. Our good protagonist even notes that while the guard has excellent mouth writing, his spelling skills have much to be desired.

5826091

No, he's not that Mr. Wordsworth, but that would be an interesting Displaced character.

5825848

Great, now I can't either. Thanks for the inspiration. Hard to come up with 3D versions when all you've seen is the flat, 2D type from the games.

I thought the filly was Twilight, seeing as she's a bibliophile as well. But nice surprise using Velvet

So far I can't tell if he is a costumed displaced, or if you gave him a few selected powers. But so far I'm liking it, have a like!

Good luck with your story Irritus!

Wow, I find this tale extremely intoxicating. I have to say, I'll be keeping my eyes out.

A thumbs up and a fave just for touhou.
Haven't ever read it yet, but if the magnificent ZUN's work is involved then it'll be awesome.

My speculation for his powers is that he's a magicia-type yuokai with access to Marisa's Grimoire.

(side note - the dish did not run away with the spoon; it appeared to be more smitten with the salad tongs).

BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE, BEST LINE!!!!!!! :rainbowlaugh::rainbowwild:

the two-story tall ice cream golem currently being hunted down by a gaggle of kindergarteners

Oh that poor golem:pinkiesick:

I really loved the flashbacks with Starswirl poking him with a stick, as well as Velvet and Night's talk with. Booker. Still, you made me curious as to how he knows Celestia and the identity of Starswirl's lover (I think I know who she is). Anyway, thanks for the great chapter.

Man, this is going to be epic! I can't wait for the next chapter.:pinkiehappy: Now I also want to know how Teller met Clover.

Whatever you think,
I don't believe that...

^Dat space :rainbowderp:

, I could probably get some work down while you-

good so far, but I keep getting the feeling like he's a girl not a guy for some reason.

Don't know why, but for the entire first chapter I thought of the MC as a female... I'm unfamiliar with what character he is.

5871916
5871881
Wow, did I really make him seem that feminine? I guess I can understand given, like I said, 99% of the Touhou characters are girls, but yes, Booker is a guy. And his powers... well, you'll see.

5876037 No, it was more a misunderstanding on my part, and the words "he" only clicked for me at the second chapter.

The simple fact that this has Touhou in it has made this my favorite fanfic on this entire site. :raritystarry:

I found it enjoyable the way that Booker has such a sweet relationship with Twilight on their first meeting and I was laughing when I saw the flashback between booker and Solana, particularly the way Booker out a permanent end to the Poking Stick. The confrontation between Booker and Celestia will be epic. I hope the next chapter comes soon.

Also, has anyone figured out the chapter naming pattern yet?

For now they have been names of songs in Touhou games.
And my guess was off (5841779 )

:pinkiegasp: SHIT! JUST! GOT! REAL!!!!!

A new amazing story shows up...... and then I catch up with it. Dammit.

Speaking of which, I had to think up a gift to give to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Even indirectly, they’d helped free me as well. Maybe a heartfelt 'thank you' card. Or a tasteful fruit basket. Or a bazooka.

The third one, go with the third one.

The music of the saccharine devil leaked like poisonous molasses from the gramophone's speaker. The thrum of power lessened and then nearly died off, leaving only the silence of one who received a revelation far too late.

Seriously, though, did anyone get the name of that wall? I might be planning to sue its owner once I gathered enough of my thoughts to piece together to figure out how I became so intimately acquainted with it.

Was it the Fourth? If so you might want to seek Pinkie.

Also, Does anyone know if there is like an official thing going on around the "shady shopkeeper". Cause the only development I've ever seen on him was he exists and sells stuff.

I think he's just used as a plot device for 'Displaced' stories as a useful/quick'n'easy way of explaining how a human ends up in Equestria while also gaining strange powers and (usually) taking on the form of whatever character they were costuming as at the time. Though that last point doesn't appear to be the case here, what with no cosplay happening.

Don't know where he comes from (the first story he appeared in as the case is), aside from being described as reminiscent of the merchant from some Resident Evil game or other, and that his name may as well be Discord since that's all he seems to cause from selling his whatsits. Oh, and not showing you the fine script on his deals and stealing your money.

FTBFTBFTBFTBFTB

Am I the only one who thought this was supposed to be some sort of sound effect at first?

5888542 Presumably, Booker was able to watch more than two full seasons before winding up in Magical Pony Fun-time Land. :U

5890696
Booker has watched up through the first three seasons. His niece forced him to watch while babysitting her.

5888304
Yay! Cookie for you! Also, you're not the only one. Booker kinda mistook what he was doing for a looonnngg time.

Interesting that its velvet who he went to see.

No bad booker, your gonna make adorable twilight sad.

5891929 Hush, you, I'm reading between the lines. Stop distracting me with your infernal 'canon'.

On a more serious note, this is probably the first Displaced fic that I've actually been interested enough in to check out; the underlying concept has always felt a bit forced to me, but I think you make it work quite well. It's likely just a matter of execution, like most things are. It helps that your main character feels like his own person from the word go rather than a warped interpretation of a character from another IP, which is the impression I've gotten from what other Displaced fics I've glanced at. Then again, I'm not familiar enough with Touhou to know what Marisa is actually like, so maybe that helps too.

5889380 5889499

He's part of a trope named The Little Shop That Wasn't There Yesterday. No clue on the origins, but the TV Tropes article says that H.G. Wells used it back in 1897.

They come in varying degrees of benevolence, from the owner of the antique shop where Randall got the mogwai in Gremlins (he refused to sell, his son didn't) to the Affably Evil "Spells 'R' Us wizard" from the '90s Web/Usenet pseudo-fandom.

..... I should be studying for finals...... But.... stories!

As usual, I found the Starswirl flashback to be funny and I found Solana's crush on him to be a shocker. Still, the way Velvet treated Night Light made me laugh, as well as the theme song and the subtitles for the battle.

At least I have my books, even if I do have to beat them into submission occasionally.

Out of the entire description, that one line caught my curiosity.

Yes, dear god yes! :pinkiehappy: Can't wait for the surprise.

Velvet deserves a cookie

I eagerly enjoy seeing your imagination at work in this story!

This is going to be beautiful

Hrmm, some Touhou that's light on the Touhou... so far. Was surprised to see something like this on front page, but mark up as a victory for Touhou nonetheless! Little nitpick grammaries aside, this first chapter has caught my interest, and I shall read on forthwith. Also, real clever using song titles, and for using one of my favorite EX stage songs as the title for chapter one! So I reward you and anyone else who bothers to read the comments with this:

(Though you could've gotten away with using "Reincarnation" as an alternate, but just my thought)

Ah, got Rinnosuke-ified, I see. Would've been hilariously disastrous if he had ironically dressed as Mannosuke. And we're getting a smidge more of Touhou added to this Touhou crossover as well, but all the exposition leading up to it was endearing enough to keep me along. Now for music representation:

Ridiculous Game, indeed. Though it's looking more like Calamity Fortune (then again, fan mixes don't count, huh? :P)
Needless to say, I'm hyped. And I certainly don't recall there being this type of youkai in Touhou before, though either a) you're making this one up or b) I've been out of the Touhou character loop for a loooooong while (likely b). So how will Spell Cards be handled in this iteration? Well onto the next chapter then. But not before more music representation!

Oh dammit, you included your own battle music. Yeah, Nuclear Fusion would've been better. Or Unknown X ~ Unfound Adventure. Anywho, I'm loving this Magnificent Bastard that Mr. Teller has become. If you can warp and rend the very fabric of reality around your very whim, I'd want to be as cheeky and insidious, too. Now hurry up with the violence so we can get more adorkable character interaction (ie more chapter, plox). As a final note, I was tempted not to do music representation as you did some yourself, but decided to go through with it anyway. So here it is, and all the best!

(Though given what's going on, I think one of the pre-battle songs would've been more fitting, like An Unpopular Location or Argue for and Against. Or perhaps you're saving those for later ~_^)

great story so far! really got me intrigued with this 'Touhou' game series, I'll have to look into it when I get my internet back, any suggestions on which one to watch a lets play of?

I must say, I was a touch confused at the sudden shift about hand-writing.

I don't understand this story. :applejackunsure:
