When Sunset Shimmer's nascent revolution falls apart and she flees Equestria via portal, she finds herself in 21st century Tokyo, where an aspiring dictator puts her where he puts all his problematic teenagers: Shujin Academy.

But Sunset still can't abide tyrants, and she's about to find out she's not alone.

Content Warnings: I'm trying to keep the themes and level of description of them consistent with Persona 5. That means violence, mentions of sex and sexual abuse (but no description thereof), talk of suicide/self harm, and supernatural mental illness.

Pretty good start though I'm wondering if Celestia is literally a tyrant or if that's just how Sunset views her.

Always a good question to ask of a narration style like this one.

The Kamoshida change is pretty inconsequential but the fact that they didn't run into Mona while escaping the dungeons is concerning. Alibaba reaching out right away is also weird since she isn't really in a good enough headspace for her reaching out to make sense this early on (in canon it was done out of desperation after she learned that the phantom thieves were capable of changing hearts) and she really has no reason to think she can trust them (again not in a good state of mind).

I'll say I'm not really a fan of arbitrary changes in general as I personally feel that any change to canon should occur naturally and not simply at the whims of the author but we'll see how it goes.

Currently, I'm wondering if Sunset is just replacing Ryuji in this story? Personally, I'd be fine with that since it's better than Akira just not meeting him like he did in canon for no good reason.

I don't quite get this bit about Celestia being a tyrant - likely something we'll learn more of - but if Luna's still good...then yay, Best Princess! n///n

I’m not particularly interested in doing a story that tries to change canon very little, because P5 is a super long game and many readers will have seen it all (in some cases several times, heh). At the same time, I want the story to be readable for fans of Sunset Shimmer doing weird things, even if they don’t know P5, so including things from P5 canon purely for the sake of their being P5 canon isn’t great on that level either.

I try to pick changes that make sense in terms of the themes of the work, that are believable consequences of the basic change of Sunset showing up, etc., but I’m also not against making some changes that are basically a die roll going a different way, like Ryuji not running into Akira on that first day of school, if I think it’d improve the work overall.

P5 of course is a narrative that hides a lot of important information too, with lots of impactful things going on outside the view of the characters. That’s also relevant to any changes, especially since Akechi and Shido are aware of Sunset being around and unusual...

This is pretty good going to follow in hopes it rises again.
