I'm a Proud ABDL mommy. Writer of padded pony fics, a lot of fics about Shining Armor and his mom, several about Rainbow Dash and her family, and far more mom stories than you can imagine.

After the defeat of Tirek, Twilight has been struggling with grieving the loss of The Golden Oak Library, and simultaneously being expected to accept The Castle Of Friendship as her new home. She doesn't feel like any pony understands what she's feeling. Luckily, Spike does, and he gives her a new perspective on the matter.

Fluff abounds.

This is nice! I wouldn't call it fluff, because it's a well-worked exploration of an idea, of Twilight coming to terms with the loss of one home and the gain of another, which even before her other friends become involved, has to start with her and with Spike, since the two are "family" to each other. It's a little slow and exposition-heavy in the first half, but ultimately that's important to contrast with the ending, which is comforting and positive. Thanks for writing this!

This story, to me, would have been a better way to show the grieving process than what we got in "Tanks For The Memories". What makes it so is the very beginning where Twilight is feeling like she is being 'forced' to just move on and be all giddy over having a whole castle to herself and Spike. Sure, it's a castle. Sure, it was made from The Tree Of Harmony. However it wasn't home. Home was obliterated by Tirek. The home that was not only cozy but also allowed her to easily pursue her love of reading and sharing books with the general public of Ponyville.

For Spike and twilight, getting such a large place would be like moving into a two story house, which also has a basement, after finishing college. The dorm room, or small apartment, being a perfect fit while the far larger house feeling 'hollow' for how much unused space that was there and how things that were once close may now be scattered further distances away.

The ending was what made it a great tale of how to move on after a loss. You find something that makes a house into a home. This story has Spike help Twilight validate her feelings and begin to move towards feeling more welcome despite having no way at all to get back Golden Oaks. You'll never forget what once was a wonderful chapter in your life. However you can bring those warm feelings into the next chapter of your life. :)

Sorry to be a grump, but this story has a lot of "it's" where it should be "its". I am overly sensitive to this error
"It's" is a contraction of "it is". When you want the possessive "its", think of "his". No apostrophe in either one of them.
