Midnight was already sipping her tea by the time I walked out onto the balcony. The sun had started to slowly set in the distance, which meant Luna should be up around now.
Should be able to meet up with Celestia and her for breakfast/dinner/lunch in an hour or so.
Midnight looked different from when she arrived in our Equestria months ago. She had cut her mane shorter than our Twilight and had started to wear it in a ponytail. The change in her mane and her name was mostly to differentiate herself from the other Twilight.
Her spike on the other hand seemed to be going through some kind of teenage thing and called himself ‘Blade’. We mostly humored him.
“Sorry I’m late,” I said as I joined her, “Rarity was taking a lot of measurements.”
Midnight smiled and sipped her tea, “Sounds like Rarity,” she said before she sighed softly, “Some things seem to be the same in all worlds.”
I nodded and poured myself some tea, “You miss them.”
Midnight nodded, “Of course,” she said and frowned, “It’s difficult seeing them here. They are the same ponies, but… they don’t know me. They know her.”
“No luck?”
She shook her head again and looked down at her cup, “No,” she said softly, “No, not really. From everything we have been able to find out, Discord was telling the truth. Without the anchor spell…”
Oh.
“I’m sorry.”
She shook her head, “I said it before, Page, it’s not your fault. You didn’t know and you were defending your friend. And for all we know, it might as well have been one of my spells that ruined the scroll.”
“Still. Feel bad about it.”
Midnight smiled a bit, “If it helps you feel any better, this is not exactly the worst world I could have gotten stuck in. The worlds where Nightmare Moon or the Changelings had taken over the world would have been much worse,” she said before she sighed and rubbed her forehead with her hoof, “...I’m talking to the wrong pony about that.”
I smiled at her, “Oh come on. I know very well how bad the Changelings could have been. And I might not have been somewhere to see the real Nightmare Moon, but she wasn’t my Luna. Not really.”
She nodded before she flicked her right ear, “...Wait, the real Nightmare Moon? Where would you have seen…” she started to ask before trailing off.
“Weeeellll…” I said with a grin.
Midnight shook her head, “Forget I asked.”
I just chuckled and took a sip from my tea with a grin. Speaking of which, I may have to ask Luna to do that tonight. Was fun last time.
“So, what did you want to talk about?”
“The wedding,” she said before she clarified, “I don’t know if I should go.”
Oh for crying out loud. Her too!?
“Oh. Why not?” I asked with a frown.
Midnight shifted a bit in her seat and frowned down at her cup of tea, “I… I don’t belong here. When I go home, I don’t want to leave friends behind.”
“So you're trying not to make friends,” I said before I sighed, “Midnight, you’re the Princess of Friendship. You need friends.”
She flicked her ears and frowned, “I know. But… “
“But? You don’t want to leave them behind when you leave,” I said, repeating what she said earlier, “Yeah, that would suck. But you’re not happy, Midnight. I can see it in your dreams, they are almost always dark.”
Midnight sighed softly, “...Nightmares,” she admitted after a long moment.
I just nodded, “Understandable. If I were thrown away from my world into a new strange one, I would have them as well.”
Midnight stared at me before she looked down at the table, “...Page, I’m sorry. I didn’t think of that.”
I smiled at her, “It’s fine. This is my home now. I wouldn’t go back if I could,” I said before I refilled her tea as I looked at her in realization, “You are trying not to get friends that you have to leave behind,” I said before I sighed softly, “but consider this… what if you never can? Leave, I mean?”
Midnight swallowed and took a slow deep breath before she nodded, “That’s… very possible.”
“Sorry.”
She sighed softly and sipped her tea again, “No. No, that’s a fair question. Don’t like thinking about it, it feels like giving up, but…”
I nodded in understanding, “Yeah. But hey, if anypony could figure it out, it would be you and Sparky,” I said before I smiled at her, “If there is one good thing to come of this, it was that you and Sparky finally met somepony able to keep up with you.”
That got a small snort from her and a small smile, “...It has been fun talking to Twilight,” she admitted, “We've been able to get twice as much done when working together.”
“See, not all bad.”
Midnight smiled a bit and shifted her wings before she frowned, “But...”
“Yes?”
“...It’s a bit creepy,” she admitted softly, “My friends here. Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. They’re my friends, but still not. It’s like they all been replaced by clones or podponies or something. I know it’s silly, but it’s still a bit creepy.”
“Now that I get,” I said and stretched my wings, “But nopony said that you need to become friends with them again. You could find new ones.”
Midnight nodded a bit.
“So… friends?” I asked and offered her my hoof.
She looked at it for a second before she smiled and took it, “Friends.”
And thus is the start of Pages Harem growing ever bigger, not even being from another universe will same you now
....if starlight never did that time thing here..... Why not findcwhere the scroll was in this timeline?
9817919
Because that scroll would be anchored to this timeline, most likely.
So these are months, that divide Duties and Complications. No wonder Canon!Twilight /Midnight is so depressed. Only happy thing is that time flows in different universes aren't usually interconnected, so you can spend years in AU and then return to your universe in exact moment you leave.
9817895
If i remember correctly, then the idea of harems has been played around with before, and have been debunked.
9817946
It could also unfortunately be the opposite. It could be that a thousand years in your universe equals 1 millisecond in the AU.
9817956
Or it may be fixed, that you leave your universe in this moment, you return in the same moment. But they need to haste with this, as every moment in Page!verse make Midnight more alien to her own universe. At very worse Canon!Mane 5 may come to visit Twilight, to find Celestia-sized and aged "friend" and massive dragon.
I wonder why Page, Midnight, Luna etc. don't stronghanded(hoofed) Discord to work on this problem with proposition he can't refuse, after all he done this all shit for no serious reason and he should now repair this.
Honestly, if in next appearence in this story Discord will no show remorse and will to help with this problem, I will openly hate him.
9817977
Fair enough.
9817198
Okay, but I am completely blanking on the alternate-timeline plot.
'Midnight' huh?
I like it, I wonder if it's going to go how I see it going.
We shall see!
9818073
Discord pulled Canon!Twilight from her time fight with Starlight Glimmer to "show" Blank Page how he "chaotically" changed reality. During fight between BP and C!Twilight (becasue she attacked BP's changeling guard), scroll get severly damaged, so she is stuck.
9817947
Not debunked. Herds have been confirmed as existing. It was just Page with his upbringing that had a hard time seeing himself in one, and in the second half of the previous book he and Sunset began dating, while both are still an item with Luna and Twilight respectively.
9817946
9817956
It was already a time-travel spell, you two. The only time pressures that make sense are their own aging and sanity, and Page is well on track to make the latter a non-issue.
I always did want to see Page and Nightmare go at it, but I meant it in the fighting sense.
9817919
That’s some endgame thinking.
9818164
I don't remember Page and sunset ever becoming an item. I can only remember them talking about it, and then ending that convo with them basically agreeing to the fact that it's never gonna happen.
BTW when i said that the idea of harems was debunked i meant as in the idea of Page being in one was debunked the reason for that being what i said above.
9818191
From the previous book:
Happened during their return from Griffonstone. In fact the very reason canon!Twilight aka Midnight is there happened during their trip to Ponyville to talk to Twilight about it.
9818196
Oh yeah i had forgotten about that entire arc with the exception of the arrival of midnight, my bad.
I hope Midnight will be instrumental in exposing Celestia's new friend as human as well. Can't remember her name, but I remember she exists.
One thing I don’t understand is why only the scroll was anchored to the original timeline. I find this fact quite stupid in any case of time travel, where the only thing that knows the original location is the thing that caused the travel.
I mean, you’d think there’d be some sort of residue or marker on anything from the original timeline. That if you looked at things with a specific lens or what-have-you it’d show things that belong and things that don’t.
I mean, it makes sense for the spell itself to have a sort of memory of where it came from so that it can easily go back, I understand that. But what I’m saying is like, how come there’s no other way to know?
For that matter, how does the spell know? What exactly is it recording that says what the original timeline is? If it’s recording something specific to the timeline, say an ID or w/e, then why can’t they use that?
I just don’t understand it, especially considering certain franchises or w/e have spells designed to return whatever the target is back to where they came from. D&D for example has a banish spell that returns the target back to their original plane (I know of this spell because my character was extraplanar and the spell had to be removed from our game as a result else it’d be a one-hit-kill scenario even if he isn’t actually dying). Why wouldn’t MLP have a similar spell? We’ve already seen a sort-of banish spell from the too many pinkies episode (even if that one seemed to be unable to differentiate between the clones and the original)
9820007
Remember though, time travel is in its infancy in MLP, at least as far as ponies knowledge of how to do it. Starswirl's spell was brief and weak, yet still seemed to be the most powerful one until Starlight modified it. And said modification is tied to the cutie map, a powerful magical artifact previously unavailable that's quite new. So I'd say it's understandable from a story perspective if Starlight's modified method has a number of flaws that Hiver chooses to put into his universe.
This is quite a dark but also uplifting chapter ... WELL done
9818189
Why not mixing both... Epic bedroom battle off passion
9817895
Absolutly PRICELESS With a Changeling Princess we can have a Twilight foursome
I already know how to get her home, all they have to do is reset Starswirl's mirror to match Midnight's tachyon signature.
9820007
The reality is that any changes that occur by someone going into the past already happened, and therefore don't actually alter the future, or the time traveler creates a brand new timeline thus vanishing from their original timeline. Vapor trail leaving that spell for Twilight was a trap. If Twilight had simply done nothing, then nothing would have happened from her point of reference. I'm not too sure what would have happened to Glimmer being the canon information was that she needed Twilight to cast the spell to time travel. It's possible she may have gone nowhere, gone back in time to a new timeline now doomed to fail by her actions, or simply get trapped in limbo.
Question. Is Midnight's situation technically classified as an isekai?
9843791
*raises hand before slowly lowering it, then scratches head in confusion*
9843791
Nice one but i dont think so... It not another world just a different version
9843791
I don't think it's different enough... but that's actually very debatable. I mean, "isekai" is a fairly big bag - it literally means "different world", but that's about it. If you consider the timeline difference - then not really... but if you consider that this is not her original reality, then very much yes.
Here's another one: is sci-fi that has the characters travel to another world "isekai" if they're not being transported there by things outside their control? Like "Stargate: SG-1" or, much more à propos - "Stargate Atlantis".
I think you'd need to research the cultural implications and depictions. In "Stargate", the only thing that really changes is the scenery, so to speak - every other thing, especially the problems faced, is basically the same ("Earth-like"). And the same could be said here - while there's a "fantasy world" in play, the character is coming from a similar fantasy world. So, in this particular instance, I would lean towards "no", or at the very least "not nearly as much as for Page".
Time to leave the past, life in the present and move into the future
Chrysalis would be like: "I can do that to! Invide me and i double the fun

I have a feeling that Chrissy would do a much meaner Nightmare Moon, really... ;]
They could play Good Princess, Bad Princess.............. ;>
10969854
Wow, giving up on her already?
Question: did the Cutie map not come with her? The two constants of all the timelines were the table and scroll. Couldn't they use the table as the spell anchor as it clearly does not belong in THIS timeline?
Two Twilights... If they both help rule Equestria the daily time to rule Equestria would be down a lot.
Add Page to the gaggle of mares and the shifts are surprisingly short.
Unless they work one day and.than change it up?
