First contact has been made, successfully, and the strange equine creature known as Twilight Sparkle had assured us that we would be welcome to cement relations with Earth with an embassy in Canterlot.

The Colonel's attitude is understandable, but no less bothersome for the people who have to "handle" her. The question is, which will come first: a situation that justifies her attitude, or one her attitude precipitates?
Oh Clair, you haven't the slightest idea![:rainbowlaugh:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/rainbowlaugh.png)
On the last chapter, Saffron should talk with Rarity, she's certain to give him tips in how to render Fluttershy into poetry - and understand the desire to do so.
Oh, Mrs. Ree, shall you savor what it is to be young again?
Have fun! I'll invite myself to the foal shower.

I heard any female officer who manage to got that high of a rank is usually as hard as a stone rose.

The terrifying part is the self-fulfilling prophecy, where the latter will be interpreted as the former by those who hold the attitude.
Ask Phillip: "Moving into the tail-end of life?" Couldn't it be described that way anyway? I mean... *gestures to the now-literal tail-end*
this story just plays out so good and feels real in all the right ways.
impressive righting team.
Maybe the Colonel just needs to do a little training with Big Mac and Maud.![:pinkiehappy:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiehappy.png)
In Ghastly Gorge?![:trixieshiftright:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/trixieshiftright.png)
Computers are easy these days, their universal switch mode power supplies rectify incoming power to DC first, so can take quite a suprising range of voltage, current and frequency from DC up, and proper dynamic clocking modern CPU and GPU cores can reduce the base power requirements to a fraction of full. Then you have UPS, generator sets etc.
Or just get some smart phones and a couple of Pi to act as Wifi switches.
Biggest problem with the aging scales, is someone being called to return to Earth hafter a long and distinguised carreer in Equestria.
If Earth has very little ambient magical energy, what was the explanation for not being able to BlackBuck the return portal? Cant send charged units through or they RUD?
That wouldn't stop her if the colonel kept pushing, though.
Careful now. Otherwise Canterlot will think her name is Ambassadory. ("No," says the Ponyvillian, "it's Ambassador Clairilee!")
Excellent establishing shot of Canterlot and Celestia both. Looking forward to seeing Clair dance with a partner who has millennia of experience.

Seems to me she herself is an issue. Sure you'd need to be a bit of a hardass to make it as a female in the military, but the ones she's being a prick to are the ones meant to depend on her.
Also I have to wonder if they were always planning on putting Saffron to work for them, or is it just something that came about? Its the only real reason I can think of for them forcing him to come in the first place despite it imposing on him, so that they can get free labor. Maybe its just me, but them forcing Saffron to come and not caring he didn't want to soured me on them. Them not seeming to care feels like a pall cast over the story when it makes it seem like they don't care qnd never do anything to amend that. Maybe I'm just biased.
To Major Richards: You do realize that by attempting to establish yourself as the boss or person in charge of the Ambassador you're actually doing the opposite of what your job entails? By antagonizing her you're causing distrust between the two of you, pushing her away from you qnd making it harder to protect her.

In fairness, this situation sucks. She and her subordinates are having to relearn how to walk, much less actually do their job, and she's effectively cut off from support if there's an emergency. She has good reason to be both supremely irritated and exceedingly paranoid; she also has good reason to not act like it.
He came with them because he was 17, and they weren't going to leave him on his own for who knows how long. And he was adequately convinced, and sufficiently bribed, so there was no force involved.![:scootangel:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/scootangel.png)
Not to mention that in the Navy, "Captains" outrank the other branches' "Majors". They are the equivalent to Colonels.
