First contact has been made, successfully, and the strange equine creature known as Twilight Sparkle had assured us that we would be welcome to cement relations with Earth with an embassy in Canterlot.

I...don't know how I feel about this chapter.
On the one hand, it goes into the awkward details that other human-to-pony stories don't, which is different.
On the other hand, it goes into the...awkward...details that other human-to-pony stories don't, and I wasn't prepared for it.
9798754 Even tardigrades poop!
Ahh, siblings.
9798793
Twilight's potty training book, I believe.
9798841
Shining Armor knowing that Earths military is much more advanced and has much more combat experience how does this make you feel in comparison?
9798793
Demodex don't poop, though!
Due to the internet, I know entirely too much about horse anuses. They are indeed a bit self wiping, but I'd maybe expect a bidet of some sort.
9799293 There is one there, he just didn't find the controls.
9799351
I'm looking forward to "The Third Most Embarrassing Class Session of Princess Twilight Sparkle" at some point.
All Spike needs is one good meal a month. That doesn't mean he can't enjoy more. And at his size, a good meal is very good indeed.
In any case, good to get some sense of time in relation to the show. Apparently Starlight's settled down, or at least had a family. (Imagine those infant surges. ) Now there's just the matter of adjusting the newcomers the their new bodies. Hopefully somepony prepared for the possibility of physical adjustment therapy.
Let me show you how us, Earth Pony, can do things that superior than others!
Pinkie, Ah don't think you should use yourself as an example.
9800768 You better believe earth ponies in my stories have their own magic.
Really enjoying the fic! I also like the last unicorn style as well.
9799293
Presumably for the reasons Saffron was worried about, at that. Horses aren't smart enough to wipe manually, after all.
9800768
And then you read more of the chapter and found out that 9800802 was way ahead of you. Remember, being vastly better at what humans could already do was the original extent of Superman's powers: "faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, able to clear tall buildings in a single bound" (that third bit is obviously just there for the sake of having the all-important third bit, because it's a logical extrapolation of the other two)
9801347
Fair. Good job on remembering that long-lived races need more than a millennium for things to actually be a long time ago from their perspective, because most writers don't (the show's writers included)
Claire, how are you so good at being a pony? It's almost like you've done it before.
9802066
You realize this is a lifetime posting if they don't go they never see there mom or wife again if riley didn't go she'd be in the system really ironically the only one that had a real choice was saffron as he was old enough earth side to make his own way
9802074 Yes and no. It could be a lifetime appointment, but she could also be yanked home by the next president. Basically, it comes down to how well she does her job, but mostly the political climate back home is the important thing.
9802249
Time diferntal plays a role too they spend 50 years in equestria and go back to find there fairly an equivalent year older...ohhhh that's gonna make equestria a popular 'retirement ' local for the wealthy if the portal can be made stable and relations strong
9802074
A lifetime posting isn't really the issue, its the issues surrounding it that make the people involved look like morally deficient individuals. Instead of testing on volunteers they're apparently going to test it on the Ambassador and her family, whoch if it has negative side effects is going to reflect terribly on everyone involved. Plus this whole idea of the ENTIRE family needing to be transferred for the diplomatic position to be considered legitimate makes no sense, and puts the lives of civillians who don't actually have any part of the diplomatic process at risk. Plus there's Saffron, who they're just being cruel to. They already know his position on the matter, yet despite telling him it is his choice they go and basically telll him he MUST say yes, or otherwise he has ruined it for the entire country. They give him a choice, and because it isn't what they want they use massive pressure to make him give up that choice. Claire and Phillip have convinced me that they are terribke parents, and I don't think I can believe them being good at all until they make amends somehow, because that just sparks a furious anger in me towards them.
9802506
I should mention i dont think her family going was a requirement, she requested it cause she didnt want to be away from them, originaly she just told the president he had to explain to them why it had to be HER...the idea of them all having to go was tacked on later and i dont quite know when the transition happend i must have missed it somehow.
Interesting story and matters, I wonder how will they deal with different development speeds. Riley and Saffron are but foals now, and still would be in fifteen years, but go back and they're suddenly adults - but without the psychological maturing. Either Twilight fixes that property or keeping them in equestria under threat of being sent back torture.
Also curious on how will their parents react to basically being in their early twenties again
And poor marines, I've heard of child soldiers but that's just ridiculous
9803661
While they definetly need some things fixing, I don't think they have to worry about being mentally regressed.
9802544
Upon re-reading, there was no official requirement for needing to have the entire family come or the posting wouldn't be considered legitimate, that came from Claire. Still, I can't consider it acceptable. They risked a child's life for bo reason, and then basically told their own nearly adult son that they don't care at all avout what he thinks or feels. There was no necessity to making their children go across, so they have no justification to risking a childs life, or for telling their own son that even though he had already made his choice he doesn't get to stay, they go ahead and guilt him into giving in on grounds that are bullshit.
Damaged, I really hope you address this at some point in the story, because as things are Claire and Phillip come across as unlikable people and terrible parents.
9804223
you do realize that while yes they did guilt him into it a bit, and outright bribe him even, it was still HIS choice...they put forth no consiquences for refusal at all, now int he case of riley i repeat, if everyone else went and she didnt she would have no caretaker thus shed be put into forster care....have you SEEN what the foster care system is like in most places no parant would want that for there child, and whats more they tested the portal specificly to make sure it was safe before the 4 of them went thru so your argument about the risk is void
i think you just 'want' to dislike them and are looking for reasons.
to me if anything there behavior, all of them is organic, belivable, and quite understandable....is it selfish...a bit...but guess what
people are selfish beasts, get over it.
9804284
Do I want to dislike them? Yes, honestly. The first few chapters setting up how/why they're in Equestria establish that they don't care for their own children's wellbeing, and are doing so in front of Princess Twilight. As an Ambassador for not just the nation but the entire species, such actions being displayed are unacceptable due to how they reflect on humanity. Unless the consequences of this are going to be an ongoing part of the story and its conflict, it not being adequately resolved destroys the parents credibility as protagonists and characters.
Tl;dr them being bad parents makes earth look bad, and shoukd probably be dealt with in the story in some fasion.
9809004
you clearly don't get it
okay let me boil this down, momma hen has been told by big boss farmer she has to go here and she has to do it now, this would require her to leave behind her husband and children, who mlove her and she loves VERY much, husband decides he will go with her, this then REQUIRES there youngest go with, and shes game anyway cause ponies, if anything if her mother hadnt offered to take her the girl would have thrown an absolute FIT, nextly something you clearly missed, one of the things she clearly stated was that they would not be seting foot one thru that gate till it was considered SAFE, the kerfuffle with age diffrences was not expected nor something they could have predicted, twilight told them it was safe, it was tested and seemed perfectly safe other then the whole turning into ponies thing being a little odd, so thats fine.
lastly we get back to the teenager...note something that you may have missed....not ONCE does he sugest the thought of staying behind alone, even though he very well could have, he was more then old enough, he wanted it to either be they stayed wit him, or he went with them, saffron wanted no part of being left alone...they convinced him to come with, so he did
shall i invalidate any more of your prejudices or are you content with the number of holes ive already poked in your logic
9809004
So you are saying people in the military are assholes for taking their families with them when they have to move?
9801535 Claire is one of us.
Pretty sure that Spike's normal fire was normal reddish/orange. His green fire was the messenger fire. Which means Celestia should have gotten conked on the head with that log....
