Celestia is missing. Without her, four unicorns' magic must be sacrificed each day to raise and lower the sun and moon. Her only heir travels to Ponyville and the Everfree to mount a rescue expedition into the horrifying depths—of the Ponest Dungeon.

Ah. Teaching the eldritch the experiences of mortals. It's like trying to teach Discord empathy cranked up to eleven. Thousand.
Oh dear. Don't go to the skinchanger seeking solace from the vampire. At least not while your neck's still a bloody ruin.
Never, ever, ever trust the Flimflam brothers.
That's what I thought until someone said those exact words. Now I'm not so sure.
Some ponies cultivate the second sight. Vinyl focused more on second hearing.
Lovely touch of bittersweet irony.
So? Aberrations can be all the more powerful for their contrast against the norm. Aberrations are outside context problems, or more optimistically, outside context opportunities.
... And having said that, I can all too easily imagine the look Twilight would give me as she prepared for a lecture that would tear down my entire worldview. But I'm holding to the point regardless.

BroSis! Oh, this will definitely get worse. The jury's out on whether it'll get better.10538044
Maybe it's just me, but I find the possibility of the Ancestor/Heart telling the truth regarding the origins of humanity actually encouraging.
Imagine this, humans starting as nothing but loose parts of the Heart, yet eventually developing into their own beings, learning out of context emotions like love, friendship or compassion, and even creating their own light (Vestal) out of sheer belief. Not to mention beating the crap of their Maker over and over again.
I don't believe that Solmare is dead. Considering that Blueblood had a positive reaction to the flask she was carrying... I suspect she might be closer to the original sunbro then we all think. After all, as we've seen with the sisters, Necromancy is just a magical art. Inherently neither good nor evil. It is the intent of the wielder that decides for what outcome it will be used for.
Okay I just gotta say: hot DAMN this chapter turned out well.
Most people won’t know the effort it took to get this one right. You can see all the threads running through it, but the task of weaving them all together in one place was monumental. I take a lot of pride in my contributions, but this is your ship, and you steered it good.
You have earned this:

I liken Ametrine to a replicant. Created quickly, and not having any experience when it comes to actually feeling and processing emotions. Harmony is essentially adding that buffer that Tyrell wanted to include on his next generation of replicants; the false memories to give context to feelings so that they aren’t just raw and uncontrolled.
Sharktavia is the hero that Ponyville needs—OH, WHOOPS
Why not? You can always trust them to act in their best interests.
I don’t know if she can just crack-her-neck-and-beat-someone-to-death her way out of a tunnel collapse. But there is always hope, I guess.
That sounds like a Pratchett-ism.
Irony is a dish that is best served with cake left out in the rain. Because you’ll never have that recipe again.
Twilight has a checklist for that.

Humans? This isn’t an EQG fic!
Will Celestia tell what the origins for ponykind are? Are the origins the same in this fic as they are in actual Darkest Dungeon lore?

We spent so much time making sure that everything actually led to here, and that nothing contradicted or conflicted with the timing and—
On a personal note: If this were a Guy Ritchie film, this chapter would be the start of where all of the seemingly unconnected plot lines start colliding with each other (sometimes literally) in a spectacularly devastating fashion.

Spoilers.

It was just a reference to Darkest Dungeon. When you send your heroes to the Sanitarium, they tend to utter phrases. One of the Sanitarium phrases is "Wait, what's in that syringe?"

I was just confused, since shining does get restrained, and he gets a syringe. He doesn't like it.
I really liked all the stuff related to Octavia in this chapter save for the rather "telly" chapter trying to catch us up on the broader situation (we really could've done with another scene earlier in the fic where Octavia eats somepony we know outside the context of a serious mission and Vinyl and her talk it out, to better establish things, I think, and it would've been great), as well as the wordplay between Blueblood and Celestia. This and the previous few chapters to me are really the best parts of this fic. At the start, I felt things were a bit overdramatic and overly gross, particularly Blueblood's visitations, and there seemed to be a missing aspect of jovialness among the characters to give moments of levity and make things feel more real (people being utter downers all the time...just end up committing suicide, most people make quips to cope), but here, it's on in just the right amounts. As well, the violence isn't just mowing down waves of unnamed bandits with no sense of self-preservation, making it feel more impactful.
