The pacing changes tempo between fast and slow. It makes the fast pieces seem to happen all the faster. I think it mimics combat planning very well; the planning and prep is slow. But then all hell breaks loose.

Just to clarify, this story will draw from both the Crimson Court and the Colour of Madness, as well as the base game? Or is it just CC (with all the mosquitoes, I assume that one is involved, at least).

After looking around briefly, Shining gave the sign for Blueblood to approach. As Blueblood trotted up to the scene, he saw Shining kneel next to the now-still corpse of the bandit. Then he noticed, as he watched Shining quickly stand, that Shining had taken something from the body and placed it into his own belt pouch.

oh no, shining has the kleptomaniac trait doesn't he? oh that is going to be bad. i'm loving this so far, not many darkest dungeon fics on this site. nice to see one.
