Wait, if Twilight and Starlight's conversation was taking place at the same time as Shining and Tempest's, what was Tempest doing in the manor? Or is this more a sense of narrative simultaneity? In any case, Twilight's sacrifice... Well, we'll see what that entails.
And that's why all the mercs are arriving via stagecoach.
Outstanding scene with Rivet, especially the revelations about Tempest's armor. Though the state of Guard materiel says some very unflattering things about the nobility...

Coffee and I were just discussing the narrative continuity. It’s meant to be a simultaneous scene, with Twilight & Starlight’s bit taking longer. The vast irony is how much time we’ve spent on ironing out the continuity and timeframes of the rest of the Arc, and then... whoops.
I’ve only seen Rivet get love in a few fics, one of which is over 2 million horse-words in length. What has become abundantly clear to me while writing Arc 2 is that the supporting characters are incredibly fun to write.
Spending all their bits on parties instead on the military; one go so far as to say that the nobility has been fattened by decadence and luxury.
