Poor Spring. First told some mystical crud about how he needs to have the right intention to get along with animals and not want to meet them (as if Fluttershy goes all day without wanting to see or interact with animals) that adds that bit of paradoxical impossibility to his dreams, basically crushing them. Then he gets enslaved by Chrysalis.

Discord maintains the jerk but likes Fluttershy mentality I expect, though, and certainly doesn't help with Spring.

It is kind of an indictment on the nature of hero worship. Fluttershy might have let him down easy, but she wasn't about to let him think that she was someone to look up to. Plus I have to imagine that at some point she gets tired of "students" knocking on her door and has realized that what she has can't be taught.

But yes, poor Spring.

Ooh! This should be interesting. I wonder what Chrysalis has in store, and how Discord deals with his emotions. Please update as soon as you are able.

Sad story. Interesting to think about. Spring surely had the potential for a pure heart, as seen by Chrysalis, but was dismayed by Fluttershy's general rejection of him enough to doubt his ability for achieving his dream. Really shows a problem of idolisation. If he accepted that he had to rely on his own teachings/experience he might not have even been nervous or sought Fluttershy to begin with.
The scene with Chrysalis abducting him was a good possible explanation for how Changelings may increase in numbers.
Green thumb!

Did... Discord tell Chrysalis to kidnap Spring? He was going to bring her up, but I have no idea what he would say because uh... she didn't really bring out the best in Spring, and I guess maybe he was going to talk about how awful Spring was in comparison, which would be consistent with the Discord that tricked Chrysalis into kidnapping someone.

You did a pretty good job of capturing Discord's personality. Keep up the good work.

Thank you to all who have commented. Publically, in regards to the question of Discord's deal with Chrysalis, I would like to plead the 5th. There are clues in the text that would lead you to conclusions. :)

That said, I hope to expand on that in future chapters, of course.

I get the distinct feeling that Discord's going to be in trouble when Fluttershy finds out what he did.

After all, he knew only a little more about Spring's fate, but enough that finding him was a triviality. Besides, the plan had not yet come to fruition...

:ajbemused: Discord...

And he talks all about how he's helping Equestria, and sent someone to... I dunno... get brainwashed?

If we're lucky it's a cruel seeming but effective plan to neutralize Chrysalis, but I am not suspecting that...

Hm. So as Spring is sent out, so is Fluttershy's party going to search for him. Rather serendipitious.

I wonder what Discord has planned to uh... distract them from finding Spring. He'd get in an awful lot of trouble if all the data points were put together...

Things will soon be colliding. It's going to be fun.
