OK, now I'm on the seat of my pants, thing really are coming to a head. I'm assuming that since Rarity bent, the damage done to her wasn't as bad as Side Slip so she should make a better and fuller recover if she gets back.
This was a good chapter, I can't wait to see the next chapter. All doe I have trouble understanding the distinction between breaking and submitting, isn't the point supposed to make their will pliable. Granted I suppose that Side slip was much more brutal in breaking his will as he didn't had much value like any other and didn't get the special treatment in being coherstion into become being a slave like Rarity that was tailored to subtlety bend her mind to theirs and to keep her as unblemished as possible. I supposed that he was forced to do repetitive, mind numming, backbreaking labor that eroded his free will over time, with brutal mental conditioning, if if the scars on his body would suggest that. I would love to see a chapter that showed the whole period that he was being turned into a slave.
7633028 The "bending vs. breaking" distinction doesn't have anything to do with who the pony was, or their treatment by the dogs. The distinction comes from how the victim handles the mental conditioning being subjected to them with the bridle.
Rarity, when the situation calls for it, allows Valiente's traits and influence to the surface, in an effort to reduce the mental strain that the bridle is causing to her psyche.
Side Slip, on the other hand, fought against the bridle's influence with every fiber of his being, until the mental strain of doing so became too much, and "broke". Side Slip never submitted, to the dogs or the bridle's magic, and it took its toll on his mind.
So, an analogy: When looking for a material strong enough to handle a lot of stress, you want one that has a balance of both elasticity and rigidity, rather than one that is an extreme of either. If it's too elastic (submissive), it can't support the weight, and collapses. If it's too rigid (resistant), it becomes brittle, snapping under the pressure.
