First!
Hehe, sorry. Have to go to work. Will read later.
EDIT: Swift survived? Total shocker.
Nice chapter.
..............Yep....
The only question is will he go on the same path he was on before? Only time will tell :P
I really enjoyed the psychological aspect of this chapter; looking forward to what happens next.
7729336 I totes shocked you, m8. Shucked u gud.
Also, thanks! :)
Wow. You are making this a very likable and understandable villain. Good job.
Good job Swift, you did more damage to Equestria than the rest of the super villains put together.
Anyone else hoping someone is going to beat the ever living fuck out of this worthless piece of garbage in a latter chapter?
Swift may not have started the fire, but he sure as hell doused everything in gasoline.
7729532 Well, technically, he didn't do it.
Now you know the price of your crimes.... And what you've reaped....
7729483 It's rare for a story, especially a fanfic, to pull me in like yours has. Well done.
7729564 Swift: Wow... So I was the bad guy all along...?
>>7729532 Killing the bad guy: Satisfying. Convincing him he is the bad guy: potentially MUCH more powerful.

We didn't start the fire started playing as I finished this chapter...
I had a feeling he wasn't really dead. But I'm confused. Was that his plan to blow up Manehattan or not?
Now he just has to pretend to be his twin brother, or just another persona entirely, since they believe the 'real' Swift to be dead. Start over, not as a crime boss.
Have to be honest, I can't bring myself to be interested in any part of the story related to Swift past the initial beating. Skipped over pretty much all of it. Not judging the quality of the story based on him, but I just really wanted this story to focus on the main character's problem, other than having a mass murder and a villain.
7730346 Destroying Manehattan was never his intention. His intention was to take over Manehattan, gather enough followers, plan a 'coup' against Canterlot, overthrow the princesses, and save the world - or so he believed.
Igniting the Methane was both seen as a last resort and something that would never happen - the factory had been out of use for several years, so it is assumed that it would never truly work.
But it did. Now millions are dead in the biggest disaster to hit Equestria in thousands of years.
7730767 Ok. I thought so. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I sometimes miss the littlest things.
7730735 I understand your situation and - in a way - I agree.
The original intention for Regret was to have him be attacked by random thugs, end up in a coma, and wake up while detailing his recovery. After would take place, but Swift never exists, Manehattan and Equestria is never affected by the Methane - and Methane is never used as a power source as a plotline, so After would have been set in an alternate, non-destructed timeline. :D
In a way, I do regret hue hue adding Swift into the story, but I plan on making sure Swift remains in the story as little as possible. There's the chance he could die in the future, ending his storyline - and the rest of the story continues as normal.
Now that I think about it, changing that storyline isn't all too difficult, as most of Swift's scenes involve changing from one scene to the next, and vise versa. If I decided to, I could just have Swift die in chapter one, alter some of the chapters to get rid of any sign that a Methane blast ever happened, and erase all scenes with Swift in them. It's pretty possible, seeing as how the majority of the chapters focus on the main characters and not Swift. Not saying I'll likely do it, but it'd be interesting to think about.

I seem to have a serious problem with most villains in fanfiction. It's really hard to find a villain I do like, because I like villains with depth and understandable motivations. I've taken to calling it my 'Dark Brotherhood' problem. That's when there's an antagonist(s) with questionable motivations that take to killing and cruelty for no good reason. Oftentimes they will kill their own allies just because it makes them look stronger. Along with this, they take forever to beat, usually due to forced plot points that pop up just to keep them in power.
If a story's villain even starts to feel like it's going in that direction, it sours my mood and sometimes ruins the story for me. This one is okay because the main story is pretty detached from the villain. Still, it leaves me having to ignore a bunch. If you ever decided to make an alternate version of this story without focusing on Swift, I would love it.
Just kind of sad right now that a decently sized update was just a Swift chapter. Got my hopes up, man.
Keep up the good work with the main story, though. I like it a lot.
Edit: Had to get out of bed and back onto my computer because I don't know how to view spoiler'd comments on my phone.
7730798 Luckily, Swift will no longer be in power, seeing as how he's already starting to think twice about what he's done so far. There's a chance I might get rid of him in either Act 2 or Act 3, but in a way that truly adds character development to him and ends a storyline that I've been kind of aching to get rid of for a little while. lol
An alternate story wouldn't be too difficult to create, as most of the scenes wouldn't really have to be changed, but anything related to Swift would be removed, and he would die in the first chapter.
7730813
Your story, you can do what you want with him. I probably won't read it, though. I'd probably just be rooting for him to die, regardless of additional character development, and I don't want that to take away from the half of the story I do like.
For me, if a villain like him is included, I tend to only be satisfied is he's beaten down quickly, which doesn't happen a lot. Not saying it can't be or wasn't done right, it's just what I feel.
I feel like Swift should have remain the give no f*cks kibd of guy. It's weird hearing him to feel sorry and regret decisions. He's on a crusade and brought his followers for this city he wants. However he's made to be such a dick, he should just to be more bad then feel bad.
7730867 The thing is, we don't know all that much about Swift. We saw him as that "give no fucks" type of guy who kills to cover up his tracks, leave no witness, the incentive to do good "for the good".
But seeing the true colors of those he strove to lead - and thinking the simplicity of certain logic - it can make anyone think they might have been doing wrong.
Swift can still give no fucks depending on the situation - but sometimes, he might have thought, "What if?"
Interesting development, but I don't pity or feel sorry for Swift. He brought this up on himself and now... well this is the result. He can have his reflections of past, and his wondering if he did right or wrong. I'll be interested in seeing what happens to him.
7731019 I agree with everything you said.
7730776 Parallel the healing of the main characters with the healing of the land. Rainbow and our intrepid hero (main character dude) have both been burned down, in different ways. Rainbow thought she'd healed moved on from what Grace did, but she hadn't really. Our hero main character dude lost his memories and definitely has some scars. They rebuild themselves, and so does Equestria.
Just my 2 cents.
7731662 That's actually pretty interesting. :D
I bloody knew there was more shit to unfold! F*cking called it!
7733770 It's possible, now that I read it again. It was far from intended, but now that I think about it, it definitely seems like he had some issues.
Not bad Not Bad At All Its gives Us perspective on the other Side Of Things Even If I Hate Swift And Didn't Care For It Per say This Chapter was Well Done Like last time I Cant Wait For More
7741480 I hear he's got lollipops. :)
7742943
Rainbow: Ooooooohhh!!! He has lollipops???
**Pause for dramatic effect**
Our Hero dude: Yes Rainbow, he has lollipops. He has fucking... oh my god. I bet you'd eat one of Pinkie's "special" cupcakes too. Scarf it down! It's totally not laced with date rape drugs!
Come to think of it, why is Rainbow constantly getting drugged in fanfics?
7743527 I've never read a fic where she gets drugged.
Well, if you count mine out. :P
7749488 It happens fairly often. Maybe not "constantly" though.
Was reading Regret again for the first time in ages and came across this bit in Chapter VII.
"It IS my fault, Spike. I tripped and I caused that fire. I CAUSED that house to burn down. It's MY fault that we're in this situation. MY fault that she's like that. And I don't think that some trip to a city's gonna change that. It's not like it's gonna make me forget it happened."
Ironic words are ironic.
7750974 That last line originally wasn't going to be there, then I realized it was a great moment for some subtle foreshadowing. >:3
Okay so he ain't dead but in remorse for what happens and how many he's killed? Fantastic! So we are now at the part of, "forgive" him and imprison him for life or kill him, possibly out of lawful boundaries by hell who knows? I mean all of Equestria had a reason, Celesyia, Twi, RD, AJ, Shy, so forth so forth, it's just a matter of choice and who makes it,
This was an interesting development! Ima read on now
Edit: found a typo
Sorry if I'm stupid for not knowing this but, I thought Swift died in the methane plant? Wasn't he killed in the raid of the facility? But this chapter ended with the destruction of Manehattan, but he lived? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but could someone clear this up for me? Thanks

The power of bathrooms.
7946353
The police only THOUGHT it was him, the cop that catches him in the mall talks about with one of those at the factory over the walkie talkie briefly.
I'm actually glad Swift's alive, death is to quick and easy for him.
The fucker lived!? This is not going to end well.
On abdifferent note, he is represented poorly. If any individual has deteriorated to the point of murder for fun, even telling his men to rape a child to death, there would be absolutely no confusion or sorrow about it whatsoever. He is evil by his own choices, do NOT try to make him likable.
May the fleas of a thousand dirty dogs infest his entire body and may he suffer long and painfully at the hands of whomever is the cruelest.
A bit late for the redemption arc eh Swift? Sorry but not sorry. There'll be no redemption for you.
