Friday Night

Discord excitedly awaited eight o'clock.

He had fallen ill and had recovered under the watchful eye of his beloved friend the previous week. Now he was going to make it up to her. He had been feeling strange, lately. His heart would pound whenever he got close to her. He would find himself blushing at the thought of her. And he strangely didn't want to eat cotton candy or drink chocolate milk. His thoughts would often be fantasies of him with her.

He looked at the clock on the wall. 7:30 PM . Had he really been daydreaming that long? He grabbed the picnic basket on the counter and started to pack a big picnic for two. He had used magic to expand it on the inside.

Meanwhile, Fluttershy was in her cottage talking to her bunny Angel.

"I'm sorry Angel, I've got plans with Dissy. No tea party tonight."

"But Fluttershy!" Angel cried in Bunny.

"No, I can't cancel on Discord. I've had plenty of tea parties with you, it's Dissy's turn."

"But why do I have to share you with your evil chimera coltfriend?!" Angel complained.

"Number one, he's not my coltfriend, number two he's not evil and number three he's a draconequus not a chimera. You really must be nicer, Angel. Now, you know the rules. No parties, no fighting, no treats, no candy and no leaving the house. Got it?"

"Yes, Fluttershy," Angel said crossing his fingers behind his back.

There was a knock on the door.

"That's him Angel. Be good all of you!" she said as she walked out of the door to join Discord.

"Angel giving you a hard time again?" Discord asked, nudging her playfully.

"Yeah, he wanted to have a tea party but, I decided against it. I wanted to spend time with my f-friend." It hurt to say friend.
Discord's chest tightened when she said "friend", but why?

"Yeah, well, that was nice," Discord said.

"So where are we going?" Fluttershy asked curiously.

"A place I found. We can watch the summer sun rise. And it's where fireflies go a lot. I brought jars so we can catch them and let them go. If you're okay with that, I mean."

"Yeah, it's perfectly fine! I mean if we let them go afterwards."

"Don't worry, we will. Come on, the pass is just up ahead."

Fluttershy looked around, but didn't see a pass.

"What pass?"

“It’s pretty well hidden. I stumbled across it a while back.”

"Okay. So, how have you been feeling." Fluttershy scratched at the ground.

"I'm doing great, how about you?" Discord lied but not letting in show.

"Oh, I'm okay." Discord didn't see the look in Fluttershy's eyes.
Fluttershy had been experiencing the same symptoms as Discord. She and Discord were still oblivious as to what's going on.

"Fluttershy, I think I found it!" Discord cried out as he found the thin path, concealed by many plant and bushes.

The two went down the thin path.

A little bit later the had reached a clearing on the other side. It was like a little grove but it was beautiful. There was a small waterfall that led into a pond that thinned out into a stream. They were surrounded by blackberries, trees, flowers, and all sorts of greenery. In the middle was a big, soft patch with nothing growing in but short grass. The fireflies slowly buzzed around the trees showing off their glowing lights.

“Dissy, this is amazing!" Fluttershy cried out in wonder.

"I was planning to watch the Summer Sun Celebration from here. So, do you like it?"

Meanwhile in the bushes:

Angel was watching Fluttershy and Discord. He planned to ruin the date, but how?

He had brought a handful of the other animals and he was laying out a plan.

"Jay-Jay, can you try to egg Discord from above?"

"Yes, there's a couple of really rotten ones in the fridge back home. Me and Jim can drop them directly on him."

"Good. If Fluttershy flees in disgust, then she'll have no choice but to spend the Summer Sun eve with me!" Angel then broke into maniacal laughter.

"Do you hear something, Discord?" Fluttershy asked straining to hear what she thought was her pet.
"No, I don't hear anything. It must be just the wind. Let's spread the picnic out and eat, I'm as hungry as a horse! HA, see what I did there? Horse!" Discord and Fluttershy giggled at the joke.

"Ah, I really crack myself up sometimes." Suddenly an egg dropped on Discord's head.

"Well somepony's feeling puny," Fluttershy giggled at her own joke.

"I didn't do this!" Discord said frantically trying to wipe all the egg off. He ended up puncturing the yolk which stank worse than when Discord threw up.

"Ew! This is disgusting! Who ever did this is just egging it on!" Another egg came down on Discord's snout.

"Are you sure you're not pulling my leg Discord? This is just too funny!" Fluttershy said as she started to unpack the picnic basket.

"Why did you pack books Discord?" Fluttershy asked as she pulled out two books.

"Hey, Twilight doesn't have to be the only egghead." Sure enough another egg came down, this time landing square on his forehead.

“This is disgusting! I think these are rotten!” Discord said in disgust.
Fluttershy giggled.
“Why don’t you wash your face in the waterfall,” Fluttershy said gesturing towards the waterfall.

“Good idea, hehe.”

Discord went to the nearby waterfall and washed the sticky and stinky egg out of his mane.

“Oh, it didn’t work! Why did she not flee in disgust!? We need a new plan. Any ideas?” Angel asked the group in front of him.
The group brainstormed for a minute.

Sweet Beak the hummingbird suddenly remembered something...

"Opal!" She said excitedly.

"Huh?" The other pets asked in unison.

"Opal!" She said again. "We can use her as a weapon! You guys remember how tank impressed Rainbow right? He took her toy away. And I could have sworn that I saw sparks fly when she was scratching the living Tartarus out of his shell. There's still scratch marks there!"

"That's a great idea! We can use her claws! And I know just how to lure her out her." Angel said having that evil look in his eyes.

Sweet Beak came flying as fast as her wings could take her. In the grip of her tiny feet, was a toy mouse's tail. Opal followed angrily.

Sweet Beak hovered a good five feet above Discord. She dropped the toy mouse in his lap.

"What's this? Fluttershy, did you bring this?"

"Please, Discord, I don't play with dolls anymore," she snorted at the stuffed mouse.

"Are you sure?" Discord teased.

"Yes. I'm positive that that thing isn't mine," Fluttershy huffed.

"Well, somepony's a little catty when it comes to dolls," Discord said in a smart voice.

Opal came leaping out of the bushes.

"MEEEEOOOWW!" She had the gates of Tartarus in her eyes.

"Who has Mr. Mouse-mouse?! Whoever has him at the moment, is getting thoroughly clawed!" She spotted her precious toy in Discord's claw.

"YOU WILL DIE!" Opal cried in cat.

Opal leaped in Discord's lap, clawing and scratching at his torso and face.

"NOT THE EYES!" Discord cried trying to protect as much of his face he could.

"Oh my. Surely this is too much, Discord."

"I DIDN'T DO THIS, I DON'T EVEN KNOW THIS STUPID CAT! I SWEAR! JUST GET THIS THING OFF ME!" Discord screamed over Opal's hissing and screeching.

Fluttershy reached down to pick Opal up.

"It's okay Opal, you remember me. You want your toy? Here you go. Now, go on back home, go on," Before Discord knew it, Fluttershy had "tamed" the ferocious "beast" and it was on it's way home.

"That was weird, how did Rarity's cat get clear out here?" Fluttershy questioned.

"You swear you aren't doing this?"

"Yes, and owww cat scratches hurt!"

Discord was covered in scratches.

"Can you heal yourself?"

"If I can move my arms." Discord managed to snap and he regained his ability to move fully.

"Geez, what was that cat's problem. I didn't do anything to it."

"She doesn't really like anypony. And you were holding her favorite toy. I wonder how it got there," Fluttershy thought.

"Great, any more ideas to get rid of Discord?" Angel asked his comrades.

"I thought I heard something," Fluttershy had found them.

"F-Fl-Fluttershy! What a pleasant surprise! Um......I can explain?"

"Go on, I'd like to hear what you have to say for yourself," Fluttershy gave Angel a glare.

"Um...We got spooked?"

"Not from what I heard. Was all that stuff you?"

"No." Angel tried to lie, but he knew very well that he had been caught red pawed.

"Fine, I did it with help," He growled.

"Come with me, who ever was involved," she sighed.

"Discord, Angel wants to apologize."

"For what?"

"For pulling all those tricks."

"You mean to say, that this bunny was behind the eggs and the cat?"

"Yes, and he would like to apologize for hurting you and egging you."

Angel took a nearby stick and a patch of dirt and wrote,"I'm sory".

Discord looked at Angel then at the words in the dirt. And chuckled.

"It's spelled with two "R's" Angel, but, apology accepted. You know, we could team up on Pinkie and Rainbow and have an all out war!"

Angel erased what was in the dirt and wrote, "That sound fun and chaotic". Discord chuckled at his choice of words.

"Dissy, Angel come quick! The sun is rising!"

The two raced to the top of the hidden peak and watched in awe.

"We should do one of these dates again," Discord said calmly.

"Yeah, we should."

"How about, next week?"

"Sounds good to me!"

"Happy Summer Sun Celebration Flutters."

"Happy Summer Sun Celebration Dissy."

The two leaned on each other.

“Fluttershy, can I tell you a secret?”

“You can tell me anything Dissy, anything at all,” Fluttershy said reassuringly.

“Um, well I think, I kinda have some feelings for you,” Discord bracing himself for some sort of reaction.

“To be honest, I think I’m falling for you too Dissy.”

Discord was shocked, but after a few seconds, he smiled. The two leaned on each other nuzzling.

Angel saw this and said to himself.

“Oh, brother. I’m in for a bumpy ride.”

While this is cute, it hits one of my pet peeves really hard. Also, you keep misspelling Angel as Angle.

The pet peeve is this: Equestria does not demonstrate the kind of distinction between "friend" and "special someone" (somepony in their case) that is common here on Earth. Discord is delighted to be friends with Fluttershy; he has never shown any evidence of being unhappy with it, because friend on Equestria does not mean "not lover", it means just what it sounds like -- someone who cares about you and likes being with you. Here, we have the whole "just a friend" construct, but judging from the fact that Twilight called Flash Sentry a friend even though we know she's attracted to him in EQG 2, and judging from how arch Lyra and Bon-Bon were about calling each other friends in the Slice of Life episode... friend doesn't mean "someone who I will never have romantic feelings for". It in itself represents one of the highest states of emotional aspiration, the thing the whole society runs on.

So it doesn't make sense that Discord would feel hurt by Fluttershy calling him a friend, because it doesn't mean what it means on Earth. Discord is happy that Fluttershy considers him a friend, and if he has a crush on her, it probably still gives him the warm fuzzies when she calls him friend, because it means she cares, and more importantly, unlike on Earth, it doesn't mean she isn't attracted to him. (It doesn't mean she is, either, it just says nothing about it.) When you have Discord upset that Fluttershy called him a friend, when her friendship was the reason he reformed, it slams my suspension of disbelief down to the ground and kicks it a few times for good measure, because that's not Equestrian culture (and as weird as he is, Discord will assume things based on Equestrian culture rather than ours. He's not an Earth human; he's much closer to being a pony than he is to being an Earth human.)

So I think this would be a better story if you took that reference out, or if you changed it to a more complex emotion where he feels happiness and warm fuzzies that she's calling him a friend, and wistfulness because he wonders/hopes if it might turn into more.

6252137 Sorry, but my editor got slightly delayed so I made the decision of posting it anyways. I always update it after it's been on the site for a little bit. Also , I need to figure out how to add it, but you probably needed to read "Hay Fever" if you haven't already. And I'll take your advise into consideration. And you, by the way, hit my biggest pet peeve: One of these long explanation on grammar. No offence, but I don't think anybody's grammar is perfect but I'm just starting out in jr. High. My grammar will always be just a bit off. I thought I went through and fixed all the Angle to Angels but I guess I missed some. I will get the misspelling and stuff in check.

I didn't give you a long explanation on grammar; I mentioned spelling. Once. Didn't mention grammar at all. And the main reason I pointed it out was that it was egregious; half the times he was mentioned he was spelled wrong, and he's a main character. I don't point out grammar or spelling mistakes unless they happen so often they damage the story.

I did read Hay Fever, by the way. It was cute, though you mentioning that this is literally the first time Discord has ever been sick threw me off; the ending of "Three's A Crowd" had him getting genuinely sick, not faking any more, and being cared for by Fluttershy.

6252685 I usually don't base my short stories off the show. I thought I added an alternate universe tag. And Sorry, I think I must have been thing of another thing. And this is Fan Fiction. You have your own world to make stories in. I have like my own whelm. Sure I watch the show, but I like putting an extra twist in things. I made it so that being sick would be like a first time experience.
