damn now thats an ace if i've ever heard one
When you no chance of survival, might as well go down in a hail of bullets and bathed in the blood of your enemies!
Three things that came to mind when I read this chapter
"Greater love hath no man, than to lay ones life down for a friend"
if I was going to die in a blaze of glory, I want it to be like that, blowing the buck out of the enemy
and
The Enterprise Always finds a way to be remembered in history -.-
Its a pity the captain wasnt the grandson of a certain current captain.
A Kirk commands on Enterprise bridge.
Now Thats what I call Pushing ICE.
You do realise, that this is going to totally piss off the humans.
Our name is humanity. You killed the Enterprise. Prepare to die.
Damn, that's some intense stuff right there.
6012597 That is a good point! I will edit that after work xD
I thought this was over planet? when did the ships relocated to vacuum of space?
it the Enterprise to the rescue.
6012144 Fine, remove the energy shield. I'm willing to accept it stopping objects moving at certain speeds and energy blasts. What about the armor itself? I would Imagine that would be enough for a knife. Then. Again, it may not even cover everything, like Covenant armor from Halo. Still, I just want to picture it as more of a full body suit made out of some type of metal that can brush off a blade like nothing.
6012790
if you mean the fleet than their just high up, if you mean enterprise they brought the flagship with them when they used the FTL drive
Wow. Just wow.
6012824 You're also assuming that the Seraph are thousands of years ahead of us, when they aren't. We have energy weapons, right now. A high-ranking member of Al-Qaeda was assassinated using a gun that emits highly concentrated gamma rays. As for FTL, we're literally half way there, as is we can now travel at half the speed of light. The Seraph aren't a thousand years ahead of us, they're at most a hundred. The fact that we've been sharing tech with the ponies combined with pony magic, something the Seraph likely have no way to counter, and it all makes perfect sense.
*Salutes*
The Enterprise will always be remembered.
6012790
I'm assuming that the Enterprise made contact with the enemy ship in the upper atmosphere, then used it's FTL drive to yank it back into deep space. They self-detonated their remaining nukes to finish it safely from the planet.
Correct?
Well then, if this turns out to be anything like Pearl Harbor, or 9/11, (a major tragedy that made us pull together to fight), we have just fuckin' won.
6012512 Yup, to all three.
6012574 That's what I was thinking for a minute when I read the name of the ship.
Then I happened to remember that the US Navy has (had?) an aircraft carrier by that same name.
So it's not exclusive to...that show that you were talking about.
6013027 Indeed she will. *salutes*
And for her, and her valiant captain and crew, a moment of silence, please.
AS for some comments of my own, here goes:
1) when I saw the title of this chapter, I had a horrible sense that, despite the best efforts of Rainbow, Spitfire, and the members of Victoria's new flock (herd?), she had bit it somehow.
Nice to see that I was wrong about that.
2) As to what is written in the Author's Notes, I'm voting for Christie Franklin, Medic of Aegis Team 265, in Chapter 4 - "I Shield".
That is all.
this particular chapter reminds me of this song from halo 3 its the one that plays when the captain of the forward onto dawn says
"Marines! The Prophet of Truth doesn't know it yet but he's about to be kicked right off his throne. You will take our city back and drive our enemy into the grave they have been so happily digging. One final effort is all that remains!"
6013161
Actually it was a super carrier and it survived WWII and remains one of the most famous ships, managing to be in the most battles for any ship of that era, a few times before it could make it back to drydock for repairs and has(had) always managed to always make it home, even if it is limping its way home
6013243 That's what I meant when I made that comment.
Although I had forgotten that she is a super carrier, and not just a regular one.
So.........
Long live the USS Enterprise!!!
6012712 Out of curiosity, is the Yamato based in any way off of this version:
6013243 The Enterprise was sold for scrap after WWII. The nuclear Enterprise was built in the 1950s-60s and is currently mothballed. She will be decommissioned in 2016 and probably made into a museum.
6013274 Sorry not often I get to share my limited knowledge on the pacific theater of WWII
Replace the food in the song with this fanfic and this video fits perfectly.
6013390 Like I said limited knowledge, and I thank you for expanding it
6013406
6012824 probably can for the most part. but unless they have a cloth that is as strong as metal but flexible there has to be joints. and those are weak points. look at medieval armor, even after decades of trying to patch the problem the best they came up with was slap more metal over the joints where we can. however knees, armpits, inner thigh, and neck areas can only be armored so much before you lose mobility which seems to be something these guys have in spades so im assuming they arent super heavy on armor. however thats just assuming. and up until recently the ponies were losing badly so its not like swords were effective it was just the occasional unlucky bastard got overwhelmed and shived
good job I say, good job
USSV? So... United Space-Ship of Venus?
I think it will focus on the titan like power suit machines that saved applejack, etc. (yeah the big ass over powered walking tanks) it would be cool to find out a bit more about them.
But thats just what I think would be interesting, look forward to.more and the sudden increase in updates
P.S. somepoint you need a fighter sqadron with dangerzone playing in the background
I've been meaning to ask, how advanced are the Seraph compared to us?
6013394 That's quite alright. I love it when someone talks history.
A bit OT, but here's a bit of my family's history for you: I had three relatives (cousins, I believe) on my late mom's mom's side of the family (the Millers) who were in the US Navy, and who were all stationed aboard the venerable USS Arizona when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, and they went down with her when she sank.
And as far as we know, their remains are still there somewhere aboard her, as they were pretty deep down inside her when she was hit.
That is still a point of pride with us.
*Pictures the sacrifice and then tips back my muzzle and lets out a conquerors Howl for the Crew of the USSV ENTERPRISE*
Well done I say to them Well Done!!!!!! may your Lights be welcomed where every you are reborn!!!!!
6013773 United States Space Vessel
The Enterprise and it's noble crew will forever live in the mind of ponykind for what they did that day.
6013935 You have no idea. XD
I vote the story follow the ensign who was manning comms. I want to make sure he gets his apology from President Impatient. The imminent destruction of a capital city is no excuse for rudeness!
One of the oldest tricks in the military book:when an army knows it has no chance of winning, deal as much damage as possible, and take everyone it can with it.
Also, focus on the president. I like him.
"Let's be sure History never forgets the name Enterprise."
6015014 Yeah I like the President as well
I'm pretty sure that detonating that massive a nuclear yield in the atmosphere will ensure the death of everyone beneath them (and for miles around, for that matter). They saved the buildings at the cost of everyone living in them.EDIT: Ignore that. I missed the part where the vessels relocated to deep space.
The chapter name translates to Victory through Sacrifice or something?
6013847
It looks like the Seraph are more advanced than the Terrans. Humans are still stuck in the solar system. The Seraph are interstellar. They way I see it though the Seraph are high cast oriented and jelous of their positions. They are not about to let their inferiors have as good equipment as they themselves have.
It also looks like there is a eugenics program to make the lesser classes stupider and more like mindless beasts.
6016711 Victory, with Sacrifice, to be specific :)
6016828 So I wasn't far off. Good.
I have never felt so proud of humanity. This story is just so incredible.
YEAH NUKES
we going to have reactions in the next chapter about the new sun in the sky?
because im pretty sure that's noteworthy
I'm Proud to see Captain Jonathan Lucas join the ranks of the Greatest of Enterprise Captains: Johnathan Archer (NX-01), James Tiberius Kirk (NCC-1701), and Jean-Luc Picard (NCC-1701-D/E). after that Brave Sacrifice; i'll let Jean Luc-Picard say it for me:
Murika saves the day lol. Dude this story is the greatest HiE fic I've ever read. Keep being awesome.
6013791 Personally, when I heard them described, I thought of MEC troopers from XCOM: Enemy Within.
