I´m getting a Valkyrie (Macross)/StarFuries (Babylon 5) vibe from this article.
This one particular mistake has gone unnoticed for almost a year and it's absolutely hilarious.
The title of chapter 10 made the inner science nerd and history enthusiast in me giggle for a few reasons, then I noticed something looked off.
Plumbum or Pb on the periodic table is lead, and gold is Au, but I couldn't remember what the name for gold originally was. In your chapter title you've got it as 'Aurem', so when I googled 'gold', the result I got said that it's spelt as Aurum.
But what does 'aurem' mean?
Ear. Aurem is Latin for 'ear',
Your chapter is titled "Lead to Ear", instead of "Lead to Gold".
Unless that was your intention, then just disregard this, heh.
I would argue that one is the primary pilot while the other deals with the weapons systems as is standard with most 2-seater jets these days, with backup controls for both roles present for each in case the other is incapacitated

true, and when not in combat, the secondary pilot acts as a radio operator and a second set of eyes for the primary pilot.
If you want one of the best easy reading series about human, non human copiloting, to my simple mind, have a look at the Humanx Commonwealth books by Alan Dean Foster. In a way, its a variation on human, hard AI symbiosis as found in the Dinochrome, BOLOs.
I tried coming up with a design for the sort of controls for a ship of similar capabilities like this years ago, with one limitation. The hands couldnt be move from the controls they were on, out of range movement had to be restricted as much as possible, and all functions had to be accessible as quickly and easily as possible. Eventually settled on 6 axis wobulating sticks with chording keyboard. Per hand. With every trick literally in book, film, and manual in there pre calculated to at least the first couple combinations. Just like communications. Theres a reason morse code exists, it lets people consider the viability of data rates of single bits per second and lower. Voyager at 100 bits a second is still running a voice channel, if you feed it through a classic text to speech device.
Unicorn light spells on nuclear warheads. Its going to be as bad as Sweetie Belle trying to cook up fireworks.

I would recommend check "HOTAS" designs (Hands on Throttle and Stick) for actual fighter planes and some ideas from the Macross Frontiers series, specially the OVA´s.
The Valkiries initially had ENORMOUS sticks to activate each of the various modes of the fighter (fighter mode, mecha mode, mixed mode) in the 80´s anime, but in the Frontier series a lateral command stick just needs to bend at 45º or 90º laterally to activate the mode required. And the controls pedals turn in controllers for the legs in mecha mode. It´s pretty ingenious.

Damn you Google Translate!

So he's got an (Sn) ear for Latin, don't be so durum on him!
Though, Lead to Ear is executing your enemies, so it kindaaaaa works?
