I didn't think it was to bad, sometimes you need the 'boring' parts to give the rest meaning. I'm surprised those nobles didn't have personal guards, considering the growing civil war close by, but it looks like acts of violence against them are so uncommon they might not really need them. Average people in long-lasting authoritarian governments rarely need enforcers at every corner as fear polices their actions well enough. That would include attacks on the aristocracy that supports the dictator.
Also, crazy Auntie is pretty crazy, wants to one-on-two the MLF's two best fighters. That's a special kind of suicidal vengeance, not really survivable, but the damage she can do when she doesn't care if she makes it out will be serious... Wait, where are her kids? Oh dear, I wouldn't doubt she might take the kids with her on this suicide mission. The Filly might have to face off with those little sociopaths.
I'm also worrying about a fracturing of the Rebellion, as I don't think much has been agreed upon beyond deposing the Duke. The situation could go the way of the Russian Revolution and differing opinions on the best path forward lead to more bloodletting, and the most effective killers get power. The nature of the Mareitanian ponies may not be repaired quickly enough to create a good government in time. Having the current Gentry switch sides is probably the best shot at stability, and bonus points if they can be influenced to continually improve conditions. Though trade (and money gained through it) are probably the best tools to influence that from the Equestrian side, incentivising good conduct will be on the list of things to do as things go on.
Look at me, analyzing the national security policies of magical kingdoms. This is why I like stories like this, they make me think. Keep up the good work.
7246325 I seriously love the way you put more thought into this than I do. Not that I'm thinking anything particularly differently to what you concluded, but there's a lot less fancy words being used.
Ivory is kill on site now? Seems her husband isn't all that loving or he has a new mistress already.
7247327 Now, if Ivory were here to answer she would most likely tell you "He isn't my husband!"
7248430 Well yeah, because he wants her dead. Not even back so he can get revenge. Just dead and buried in a lonely ditch.
