The Locust Hive

Viva Las Pegasus

After a tiresome trek through the San Palomino desert, Queen Erranda and the Locust Hive changelings find the sleepless gambling city of Las Pegasus. Hungry, thirsty, and sore from the journey, they eagerly approach the pony city and hide underneath its sewers, where they plan on a feeding raid away from prying eyes and ears.

But they soon enter the territory of the Miasma hive led by the vain and ill-tempered Queen Miasma, who seeks to kick the Locusts out of her "vacation spot." Will the Locusts get all the food they need to live another day, or will they face the wrath of one of the largest changeling hives in Equestria?

In fact, do they need to raid the city at all?

Note: This work of fiction is rated Teen for some violent scenes and occasional swearing.

I'm not sure drinking sewer water is any better than seawater.
I wonder Los Pegasus gets their water from, unless it's all processed from the sea?
Keep going! ;)

4604782 That's what I was thinking too.
See, the real life Las Vegas gets its water from Lake Mead, while Las Pegasus is right on Equestria's west coast. I was also thinking of Las Pegasus as a combination of Vegas and Los Angeles. I picked LA because, like Las Pegasus, it's also in the west coast of the United States (and also where Hollywood is located, and its MLP counterpart Applewood is in Las Pegasus).
I also did some research on sewers and found that there are three types: the sanitary sewers that transfer human waste, storm drains so the streets aren't flooded with rain, and a combination of the last two. In real life, most sanitary sewers are more like little pipes are too small for adults, or even our arms. But Las Vegas's storm drain sewers are spacious enough for people to live in.
So yeah, I tried doing a storm drain deal in this story, but there can only be so much water if it were raining hard, which is hardly the case in a desert. Still, I guess it's somewhat safer to drink it if it's pure rain water, though I can imagine there's still a risk of illness.
Anyways, thank you for your critique, and in the next chapter we'll meet the Miasma Hive. Please stay tuned, and expect another release by July 2nd.

hehe. i really like how you captured the snooty air of miasma.

4635843 Thanks, I often research your work carefully to get the best possible rendition of her. Would you like me to keep you updated on each chapter? There are five total (prologue and epilogue included).

let's say every two chapters

Hello, everypony.

I am sorry to say this to you guys, but I've been feeling burned out on writing this story, since I kept wanting to do something else. While I want to finish the story, I would take to take a break for a few days so I can recharge my batteries and maybe come back to it whenever I feel motivated.
You see, I split the project into several smaller projects for each chapter, each with their own deadlines. For instance, Act 2 was supposed to be finished by July 12th, I managed 2,400 words so far, but I've been working on it for five days or so, so I don't think I could finish it on time. Just so I don't keep you waiting, I'll release the preview version of Act 2 when it reaches over 1,000 words (right now it's just over 600).
As a result, I am going to delay the project by up to two weeks or so. I am trying to work at my own pace, but I am worried that if I don't keep working on it, I'll never finish it. Several projects of mine met this terrible fate already, and I don't want to let you guys down.
So hopefully I'll finish the chapters with flying colors and I'll try to work on it whenever I feel motivated, okay?

Thank you,
Petro Beherha
