Sombra lost his body after the Crystal Heart had been used to destroy him and now he has been stuck moving from body to body for the last two years. He ends up making a discovery and it leads him to create a shaky alliance with Chrysalis and her Changelings. They do not trust each other, Chrysalis may just keep the empire and Sombra may use the heart to dispel Chrysalis.

i really hate contrived reasoning, utterly and completely. why didn't he attack the empire? because sombra was causing chaos of course! why would he intervene? now he has a reason to intervene, and fuck contract, he knows better than to trust anything from another dark being.
this hwole reasoning is utterly contrived to begin with. the regal ones FAR surpass sombra. so much so that since everyone was captured, they can just smash through and engage him directly, killing his allies so quickly and leaving him alone to fight them.
thus no, he cannot PRAPRE for them because they are not going to be stupid enough to not expect a trap. traps are useless when the enemy is prepared for them.............

I had always thought that Sombra come after Discord. Yet you fix the problems I had to work around by having them at the same time. I had never even considered it, and now I feel foolish.

4427942 ............ personally think he was a pre discord situation. cause either they chose not to use the elements, or did not have the elements, the regal sistes, since sombra was no purged of his magic like nightmare moon and tirek was. another theory i have isthat they went after sombra to get the crystal heart.
ultimately this story............... sombra is a powerful enemy, no doubts, but he is not a enemy capable of functioning as a ruler. idw's comics showed that more than likely Celestia was watching the events transpire during the crystal empire situation, and likely all situations she has tiwlight encounter, ready to intervene if tiwlight fails her test and needs her protection.
if tiwlight failed against sombra, he would ahve been attacked by both regal sisters, and either he would vanish the empire once more or he would be slain by them, or both.
there is no way if the mane six were captured that Sombra could last more than a day, or the time it takes the regal sisters to arrive plus how long he can prolong his demise. the story relies on the regal sistesr hesitating after the mane six were captured.......... they would ahve been beating his head into the chrystals a day, if not only hours, after he overpowers the mane six.
also i repeat, discord's reasoning is bullcrap. last time he had an agreement with a dark being he got fucked over. he would not hold to some old contract when his friends are in danger. this is a contrived reason for him to not just crush sombra.
i will give you that you did include him, the last sombra story where he is somehow hyper competent for no reason (almost a tag in itself) ignored his very existence even when the mane six were murdered......... yeah.

You know what your right that chapter doesn't really need to exist the only thing it did was give Mirid some semblance of importance and,lets face it, who really cares for that.
.......op, thanks to the idw comic we finally have a timeline. Sombra was in fact post discord......... and it also seems the reason why the elements were not used was because there was disparity between celestia and luna at the time.
though it is now known that Sombra was not yet active at the point of this revelation. considering the close proximity of the Crystal empire, it means what happened is still a mystery.
reasons was because of dimension craziness. though to note the luna at current time and the luna there were not evil either, though one luna darker than the other. also good sombra, but evil sombra was not active at the time.
if it took them a month there can only be one reason. that they are far more than prepared for this and were gathering allies.
also all it would take is them isolating sombra nad he would be charcoal.
be honest i want to see the stupid thing deleted. that was an extremely contrived, deus ex diablos ending. it makes no fucking sense at all to be god honset. put simply it was bullshit and enormously, completely forced. it was not even creative, it just makes no sense.
