When Vestri's dramatic "However!" and MacIntosh's questioning "However?" came up, I couldn't help but picture them in some kind of comedy routine
"However!"
"However?"
"However!"
"However?"
"However!"
"..."
"Aren't you going to ask?"
"... Ahm debating shoving that finger up your eye."
Anyway, Sunny's and Applejack's banter was fun to watch. Roseluck still can't catch a break, huh? I'm reminded of the joke with the sadist and the masochist, with the masochist going "Torture me!" and the sadist going "No."
And Applejack needs more conditioning, according to Vestri. Well, Sunny and he know a lot of ways that go above and beyond just keeping her in bondage, as noted. She can count herself lucky if that's the only thing they order MacIntosh to do to her. I'd lie if I said I wouldn't enjoy watching them go to work on her ass... Sorry, part of my brain is just wired that way.
Also, still wondering if Gunne is bi for MacIntosh or simply "too" sympathetic towards fellow outcasts.
When Vestri said all Mac had to do was have Applejack wear a certain outfit to pass the red collar test, I was relieved. I thought it was gonna be something worse like committing incest.
About the part with Gunne and Gonna, I'm not sure what the others might think, but I have always noticed that they were brother and sister. I just don't know why, but I just felt it.

It seems that what we have learned is that the two are the Shadow Archetypes...
Another solid chapter, with some interesting crossover work. I read some of the first chapter of Sun's Setting but didn't finish it, partly because of some bias towards stories focused on OCs. Now I feel more inclined to give it a read again. The info on Gunne and Ginna I find to be really enticing. The incest thing... I really have to assume that even to caribou, incest is frowned on. Incest results in weak, sickly offspring, and the caribou don't come off as caring much about keeping 'blood pure'. I figured something had to be up with Gunne telling Mac that he should help AJ pretend to be a red collar. This is why he's such a great antagonist - he has his own motives and goals outside of the standard caribou agenda.

Well, Bruised Apples: Making Amends seems to imply that incest is not frowned upon in caribou society. But then again, we only get that information from Ginna, so yeah, not necessarily the most reliable source. However, I somewhat suspect that Vestri resents Gunne not because of the incest, but because Gunne cares and feels too deeply for Ginna.
Also, Schorl Tourmaline's Author's Note for this story sort of confirms my suspicion that Sun's Setting isn't a neutral account of the events in Lindisbarne, but one clouded by Sunrise's own perspective and agenda. Very interesting. With this chapter, I'm beginning to get something like a picture of Sunny, and it's very different from what Twipet's comments usually suggest about her character. I'll have to read Sun's Setting again. There are some parts about it that struck me as weird, like Sunrise praying to the Princesses. I've never seen another pony do that in the show or in FoE.
5517914 Now that, that is true torture.
5521190 But wasn't there art showing that Twilight and her family were committing incest? If it's frowned upon, wouldn't the CAribou be doing or saying something on the matter of them fucking each others brains out?

Why do you ask me this? I was arguing that it is probably not frowned upon. Also, I only very rarely look at FoE images, so I don't know the one you're talking about.
... Why the name Sunny?
5542275 Sunrise Splendor is her full name.
5599192 I know :)
Those batons were terribly powerful, feeling like they had enough power in them to take down a stampeding buffalo, and repeated shocks were taking their toll.
That sentence got me thinking... what happened to the buffalos after the fall? Are they with the caribou? Is Little Strongheart collared?
Excellent chapter, by far the most compelling FoE fix, and quickly turning into one of my favorites.
But some spelling errors.
I think a "not" is missing there.
"Think", not "thing".
------
It sounds like Sunny's mentioning her converting Rarity to torment AJ for her perverse pleasure. Then again, it may just be that Sunny takes a lot of pride in her status as the first red and converting one of the former EoH? But then she drops this line at the end:
as if she isn't entirely satisfied with her current station. What's up with this girl?
