Lead the way, he said.
It'll be easy, he said
Wow. Interesting mistake to make. The first word in the chapter, and part of the name of the story.
...How did you manage that?
I can't wait until he gets into the castle, he's going to wreck SO MUCH sh*t. I bet that Swift is a changeling.
I don't get it, how can he go from being an unstoppable, unbeatable Changeling killing machine to captured by a bunch of guards when he could just teleport away..... to me it feels like he just let himself get captured. I smell a plot point.
@Alexander Jack, What is the limit of Kestral's teleportation? You would think a teleporting target would be much harder to catch than this chapter made it appear.

But really, I'm just a cleverly disguised idiot that pretends to be a good writer.

Wrecking shit? Maybe- maybe not. Swift isn't a changeling, though, just a very commanding officer.

I wouldn't say unstoppable. One bit him in the leg and he nearly bled out. And the first changeling lieutenant showed that he wasn't able to do everything quite perfectly. Mistakes and assumptions are made, especially in high adrenaline situations. Most of the time he was able to plan a bit.
Who have been carefully learning his habits and styles of his deeds.
Only by a few meters. I'd also like to point out that Kestral has been quite careful in making sure that few ever know about his magic. The less the enemy knows, the more advantage he has.
I'll leave this one up in the air for now.
They're ALL plot points! Hue Hue
No, but really, I'm going to use this as a change in pace/action. With Kestral in jail, he'll actually have some natural dialogue, rather than his partially forced persona 'Hunter', or being limited to Jasmine/Navi.
I knew this was bound to happen eventually. It's kind of tragic though, the guards that captured him have unknowingly signed the death warrants of the Ponies Kes won't be able to save while locked up. I'm quite excited to see how this plays out. Hope to see the next update soon.
Ah, the lead up to the mandatory prison escape mission! Every stealth game/movie/story needs one!
This is so exciting! This is one of the few stories that makes me drop everything i'm doing when a new chapter is up! But why did he burn his stuff? He could have put it in his void couldn't he?
I kinda wish Kestral was able to surrender in the open with the public watching. He would be demonstrating that he has restraint, doesn't wish to cause unnecessary harm, and might even turn him into a martyr.
...I have a feeling that those who see him as a hero vigilante or are allied with him might be prepared to resort to extreme measures when news spreads of the Thief Vigilante's capture. Whether there will be help from within to organize a prison riot or a silent escape, or help from outside where a breakout/convenient raid/invasion wreaks havoc, Kestral's actions haven't created an image of an absolute monster for all members of the public. Who knows, maybe even a covert unit that Luna formed in secrecy away from the prying eyes of her sister may be given the orders to do so.
Jack, you've had my attention before, and after a small wait, you have it once again. I look forward to the next influx of chapters. When will the next one be out? I love this story so much, and get greedy reading everything. My brain's all like, Feed Me, Seymour. Even though my name's not Seymour, it's...shortened to Jack for the sake of a bit of anonymity, let's just say that. From one Jack to another, keep being awesome.
P.S. If you decide to introduce a secret ops unit under the direct leadership of Luna, you have my grace to use this awesome name that would befit them: The Nightingales. You know you want to...
Loved this chapter mate, its been a while since I had a great read.
aw man, dat cliff hanger tho
Hm, interesting. I had some concerns earlier in the story when the conflict was looking very flat, but you got that sorted out well enough by the time he made it to Canterlot and this twist should make things even more interesting in the near future. Really the only issue I see at this point is that the changeling faction he is going after still feels a bit more like cartoon villains than real people which is not ideal, but part of that is a lack of detailed exploration of their viewpoint which makes it harder to understand why they do what they do so it is not a big deal overall.
Smart thief, he's still keeping his aces up his sleeves. They have him, but how long can they hold him.
They don't know he has magic yet and he still has the hammerspace. Breaking out of places is easier than in, I always say.
Honestly, he should have used the smoke bombs. I imagine they can be useful to get away in such a situation.

Not only should he have used the smoke bombs, but he should of had Discord create rubber bullets beforehand for such a scenario as this.
