The Mare With Rose Eyes

The cheering of his friends in the bleachers began to get louder as he flew at tremendous speeds, weaving in and out of clouds and through small rings letting himself drop and then flying back up high. His eyes were narrowed in determination as he flew up skimming along the bottom of the gray clouds. Lightning flashed in the distance, but all eyes were on him. He continued to fly about doing loops and diving down until he finally began to fly up towards the clouds. Suddenly there was a blast of light in front of his eyes, he didn't stop flying though, and as he pushed on and looked back at his body he saw the lightning flashing over it. And it was then he saw the mark on his flank, A jagged bolt of lightning flying out of a gray cloud. But while he was distracted, looking at his cutie mark, He wasn't being careful and flew into a cloud. Startled he began to flail and drop rapidly. As he fell out of the cloud he began beating his wings in an attempt to straighten out and continue flying, to no avail. His friends watched in horror as he fell through the clouds. His eyes closed after seeing the ground approaching quickly. His cyan colored eyes opened wide as he woke up. That incident had taken place many years ago, and yet he couldn't forget about it. He had almost died from it after all, though he made a full recovery in remarkably quick time. Lightning Blitz, or Blitz as his friends had taken to calling him now for some time, Slowly shook himself awake. As Blitz got out of bed, he wandered over to the mirror and stared at his reflection, cyan eyes on a midnight blue pegasus staring right back at him. He closed his eyes with a sigh as he turned away from the mirror and strode outside. He looked back at his small cloud house, He'd been here a while away from it all. Forgotten by his friends and probably everypony else. He beat his wings once and pulled himself off the cloud with ease and began to fly at a rather rapid pace towards Cloudsdale. 'It has been a while' Blitz thought, "I-I wonder if anypony will remember me.." He said this last part out loud he shook his head and decided to bury the thoughts deep.
Lightning Blitz had been flying for a few hours when he finally saw the glorious rainbow filled city of clouds known as Cloudsdale. His cyan eyes reflecting the color of the rainbows were wide in awe. He HAD been away a long time but still, Cloudsdale was a beautiful sight to him. As he flew in slowly and began to descend still in awe at the sight before him he heard her voice.

"LOOK OUT!" Came the warning shout, a little too late. As a light blue blur followed by a streak of rainbow plowed into the unsuspecting colt.
"Oof!" Blitz exhaled as he was knocked back and fell to the cloud. He shook his head clearing it and as he opened his eyes he looked at the hovering above him rubbing her own head. A Cyan mare around his own age he guessed, an athletic build with a mane matching the color of the rainbows filling the skies around the city and a tail to match. but what caught his attention most of all is when she opened those Rose colored eyes.
"You alright?" Asked the Cyan mare.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What about you?" Blitz replied as he began to get up on his hooves.
"Hah I'm perfectly fine! Its gonna take more then that to even faze me!" The mare scoffed. Blitz couldn't help but smile at her self-confidence.
"My names Lightning Blitz, whats yours?" He asked politely.
"My names Rainbow Dash, and I'm the fastest pegasus in all of cloudsdale!" Rainbow Dash replied with a proud smile on her face, "And with a name like Lightning Blitz, I can imagine you must be pretty fast yourself!"
"Well I suppose I am but I don't rea-" Blitz started, but was cut off by Rainbow Dash.
"Wanna race to see who's faster? I mean of course I am but I have to let you try." She had landed on the cloud and was stepping in place in excitement.
"Well I suppose a race couldn't hurt..." Blitz muttered To Rainbow Dash's excitement.
"YES! Alright then, the first one to get through this race course and back to the finish line Wins!" She explained before getting into position to take off. Blitz looked over and saw the glow in her rose colored eyes, he didn't think he'd ever seen a more beautiful filly in all his life, but that didn't matter now. Now he had to race, and as he settled into his favorite pre-flight position with one hoof slightly in front of the other and his back hooves slid back and his head lower to the ground he waited. "Ready! set! GO!" Shouted Rainbow Dash as she launched herself into the air beating her wings and flew forward leaving a rainbow streak. Blitz threw himself forward and began to move his own wings accelerating his body in an attempt to keep up with filly. As he struggled to keep up she smiled gleefully experiencing her favorite feeling in the world, racing. They flew through a long array of cloud rings signifying checkpoints at varying heights. He was barely able to keep at the edge of the rainbow blur caused by her tail. His wings began to tire as they neared the end, he had been slowly falling more and more behind. When he finally crossed the finish line, exhausted and panting, he looked over and saw her standing there breathing heavily and smiling victoriously.
"Looks like I'm still the fastest their is!" Rainbow Dash said triumphantly, "But noponies ever been able to stay that close to me, you're not to bad."
"Thanks... but I gave it my all... You seemed to be holding back" Blitz replied still trying to catch his breath.
"Well I suppose I could have pushed myself to go faster" she said cockily. her stomach grumbled and she blushed a light pink and smiled sheepishly, "uhh.. heheh...".
Blitz laughed, "How about some lunch? On me, since you beat me." he said smiling.
Rainbow Dash nodded her head "Yeah lunch sounds good!". The two made their way down into Ponyville as Rainbow Dash pointed out her favorite place to eat. "Hey lets go to Apple Stacks Cafe!" She said excitedly, the thought of food making her stomach growl once more to which her reaction was a slight line of pink across her face. Blitz smiled at this, finding it somewhat cute. The cafe was new, a way to bring in more money for the farm, Apple Jack had said. They entered the cafe and were met immediately by Apple Jack.
"Welcome to Apple Stacks Cafe Y'all!" She said excitedly with her eyes closed in genuine kindness. "Now how many po-" She stopped her eyes opened as she saw her friend standing their with a colt she had never seen before. "Well howdy Rainbow, Who's yer friend?" She asked looking the colt over.
"His names Lightning Blitz," Rainbow Dash replied, stating the next part with a sly look at the colt. "I beat him in a race so he's treating me to lunch."
"Yeah, that about sums it up" Blitz said, smiling towards the pony before him.
"Well its a pleasure to meet you!" Apple Jack said joyfully, before adding teasingly. "I suppose its just for the two'a'you then huh? Should I get y'all a private booth?"
To this both ponies got pink in the face "uhhhh.." They both replied slightly embarrassed.
"I'm just foolin' table for two this way" The mare called out as she led the two to their table.
Rainbow Dash sat down and grabbed the menu and began to look through it reading the menu slightly aloud, whereas the midnight blue colt was reading it slowly his eyes moving across the page not making a sound. Apple Jack meanwhile stood near the table. "Could I get y'all somethin' to drink?"
Rainbow Dash set her menu down and thought for a moment "Hmmm.. do you have any cider?" She asked excitedly.
"Well yes we do Pinkie Pie hasn't come by yet." Apple Jack replied with a short chuckle. "I take it you want some cider then?"
"Yes! Before Pinkie comes in!" Rainbow Dash said smiling as she would get her favorite drink, some of the sweet and famous Sweet Apple Acres cider.
"Alrighty then, and how bout you?" she said looking over to the colt who looked up from the menu. "What do you wanna drink?"
"I'd like to try the Green Apple Tea." He said politely before returning his gaze to the menu.
"Alrighty, one apple cider, and one green apple tea, comin up!" The orange mare called out galloping away towards the service area.
"So she's a friend of yours?" Blitz asked, making some conversation. He acted like he was reading his menu but he was really studying the mare before him, until she looked up to reply then his eyes were locked onto her eyes. Those beautiful rose eyes.
"Yeah me and her go way back, there are six of us that are pretty close friends." her eyes stared back at him almost questioningly at the look on his face. "There's Apple Jack, who you just met, she works at Sweet Apple Acres. There's Pinkie Pie, she's really fun and funny, she works at Sugar Cube Corner and she's a great party pony! Then there's Rarity a unicorn, she works at her own fashion store she's pretty good with a needle. There's also Fluttershy, she's great with animals but she's very timid and shy. She's also a pretty weak flyer. And of course there's Twilight Sparkle, she's a unicorn that studies magic, She is the personal student of Princess Celestia."
"Wow, sounds like an important bunch of ponies." Blitz replied whistling slightly "Makes me seem even less exciting I'm sure" He laughed nervously.
"Not really, I think you seem pretty cool I'd like to hang out with you more, maybe you can meet some of my friends." The mare replied smiling, not noticing the thin line of light reddish pink across the colts face. "Where do you live?" She asked her eyes fixed on his own.
"Uhhh..." He replied lost in her eyes for a moment, before shaking his head. "I live a few hours away from cloudsdale... my own little home.. but I left their today, so technically I don't have a home." He said the last part while he had his hoof under his chin pondering lightly.
"Alright here's y'all's drinks!" Apple Jack announced as she approached the table dropping the tray down and pushing each pony their respective drinks. "Hope y'all enjoy em, now know what y'all wanna eat?" she asked.
"Not right now, thanks though" Blitz replied smiling genuinely. "I'm afraid it all sounds so good I'm having a case of indecision" He said jokingly.
"Well shucks, I'm glad everything sounds so good to y'all!" The orange mare said pulling her hat off her head and holding it against her chest, as she giggled. "I'll give y'all some more time" she said as she began to walk off, but not before whispering into Rainbow Dash's ear, something that caused her to blush a light red. Blitz looked at her questioningly, raising an eyebrow, but Dash just shook her head as Apple Jack looked back and winked at him. Rainbow rapidly brought her drink to her lips in attempt to hide her face momentarily.

The rest of their lunch had gone smoothly. With only a few more comments by Apple Jack for her own amusement, and to the embarrassment of the two dining ponies. They left the cafe with Apple Jack calling out after them, "Y'all come back soon now, ya hear?" Rainbow Dash and Lightning Blitz waved goodbye to the orange mare.
"She's something else," laughed Lightning Blitz "What did she whisper to you that one time anyways?" He asked turning his full attention to Rainbow Dash.
"Well uhh, She..." Rainbow Dash began, her face filling with red and getting a slightly annoyed look on her face "She said 'He's a keeper', talkin about you."
"Oh, uhh, she did?" Blitz stammered, trying to read Dash's face. "I wonder what made her think I'd be worth anypony's time anyway."
"Well hey you're alright in my book." Dash said "and I don't say that about everypony, you gotta be something special to get in my book, you have to be Awesome, I mean not as awesome as me but, awesome enough to hang out with me."
"Well, thanks for that Dash" He said smiling as he realized that there was some mutual feeling between the two at least. "Do you mind if I call you Dash?"
"Hmmm, Dash sounds cool enough for me, so no I don't mind" She said with a big grin on her face. They both set off talking earnestly and enjoying the rest of the afternoon.

"I had fun today Dash" Blitz said with a smile as the day was nearing to an end, the sun was beginning to set and they were sitting on a cloud watching it, Blitz had convinced her to calm down enough to watch what he called the most beautiful blessing of the day.
"I did to Blitz, Today was awesome, I;m glad I ran into you." She said laughing, as she slugged his arm in a playful way.
"Ran into me? You mean ran over me right?" They both laughed at this. "We should do this again sometime.. It was nice." Blitz said this last part while gazing at the sun's last few beams.
"Most definitely! How about I run you over again tomorrow morning?" Rainbow Dash smiled as she said this and turned to look at Lightning Blitz. Blitz turned his head as the sun had finally set and looked at her, his eyes being trapped once more by her rose eyes. "Is something wrong?" Asked Rainbow Dash, "Is there something on my face?"
"No its just... You have beautiful eyes." Blitz replied honestly, his face taking on a slight color of pink.
"I uhh..." Rainbow Dash was blushing now and fumbling nervously, it was so out of character of her that Blitz couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "W-what! Are you makin fun of me!" She asked, blushing and having a look of anger on her face.
"No I'm not, I just didn't expect you to be so flustered by my compliment." Blitz said apologetically.
"Oh... Well... thanks, sorry for snappin at ya." She said rubbing the back of her head. "Hey, you don't have anywhere to stay tonight do you?" She asked looking over to the colt.
"No, I don't, I figure I can find some place to put me up for the night, I have money." Blitz replied, "It shouldn't be too hard. If not I can always find an inn further out in the country"
"No way! I can't leave a friend without a place to stay, I'm always here for anypony!" Said Rainbow Dash "If we don't find you a place to stay, I have a couch in my cloud home."
"I appreciate it, but I'd hate to intrude," Blitz began "I don't want to be a burden to anypony so even if I have to go a little out of my way, I'll do it."
"Jeez, well now since you're trying to be all heroic I better step it up. You're staying at my house!" Rainbow Dash replied, almost snapping.
"But I-" Blitz tried to say
"End of argument!" Dash said glaring at him. Blitz gave up with a sigh and allowed himself to be led to her cloud home. When they arrived, he was amazed, it was even more beautiful than Cloudsdale. He saw the rainbows cascading down and he knew they were made by Rainbow Dash. She led him to the couch where he sat down and looked at her with a smile on his face.
"I really appreciate it Dash... I'll make it up to you somehow someday." Blitz said apologetically.
Rainbow Dash shook her head. "Jeez, don't get sentimental on me, It was my choice, and its nothing big at all. Besides I could use the company. I hate being alone, unless I have something to distract me."
"Well.. alright if you say so." Blitz said defeated as he began to lay down. "Thanks for an amazing day Dash."
Dash smiled and laughed "You're welcome for running you over, beating you in a race, and making you blow your money. I should thank you to be honest. Good night Blitz."
"Gnight Rainbow Dash." Blitz said as Rainbow Dash flew up to her own room. His first day was successful, he had met one- No two, he corrected himself, amazing ponies that he befriended. "I wonder what wonders tomorrow will hold for me." Blitz said, yawning hugely as he closed his cyan colored eyes and rolled over to fall asleep, the last thing on his mind was the beautiful mare he met, with Rose colored eyes.

Thanks I'm hoping to make this a relatively long piece, the only problem I'm having is balancing my view of Rainbow Dash [after reading My Little Dashie] With the Tomboy-ness, I hope I'm doing a decent job!
