Constructive Criticism · 8:07am Jul 16th, 2015

As I continue to write my first story, 'Friendzone ain't magic', I've come to realize how much I dearly love writing. But it's always better when I get reviews! That's right fillies and gentlecolts, today I wish to talk about the joys of 'constructive criticism'.

When looking over the status of the story's standings, my thought process goes something very much like this:
"Please-not-another-dislike-please-not-another-dislike-please-not-another-dislike."

Be Advised... · 6:41am Dec 3rd, 2018

Just a heads up, I’m about to nuter the hell out of this thing. Grinding out the muck in the first 3 chapters, condemning them into 1 by the end of it.

One single post on /mlp/ did a lot of “renovation” work for the story. Not directly of course, but it’s been another domino effect.

Critics? · 8:02pm Aug 3rd, 2015

“He tries to persuade you to accept his judgement, he must persuade you to see things his way. And the only justification for this is that his way is better than yours - even for you.”
~Robert Scholes on critics, The Fabulators, page 4

Made me fall in love with this book.

My thoughts on critics and critcism · 4:49pm May 10th, 2016

Well, this has been a long time coming. Now, before you say anything, yes I know there are a lot of users that have already discussed the 'issues' of criticism, but I think this is a topic that bares repeating, since it is one of the most important steps in growing as an author. Learning to accept critcism and learn from it can easily turn an awful author into an actual decent writer. However, many people can get really defensive about their work and tend not to listen to their critics which

On Taking Criticism · 12:22am May 18th, 2018

Hey guys!

I would just like to post this blog as a quick reference to my thoughts on taking criticism. Why? Because there's a point I want to make and I like to think I have some value to this site lying around here somewhere...

*looks around immediate vicinity*

Nope! But, I'm posting it anyway.

(Note: A mildly informative blog awaits. If you want to get out, just stop at this cute picture and move on. If not... God help you.)

Considering a Fic collaboration · 9:28am Jul 2nd, 2015

I was beginning a story, maybe calling it total badflank or something similar. Pretty much a revenge story where the stallion or mare goes in total overbonk (look it up on youtube. Too lazy to put link...) after somepony/thing kills the heroes best friend. Small chance of a crossover. Criticize me! I need ideas and changes! I wanna know what you wanna see in this! And what you don't! Here! More of these! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Fame and Misfortune (s07e14)
by Obake

Thankfully, season 7's return begins with an episode worth talking about!

Fame and Misfortune is the most meta episode the series has ever done, and that is saying a lot. Whether you like the episode will boil down to how easily you can ignore or laugh at the dumb moments, and sympathize with the good.

Response from EQD · 8:04pm Feb 28th, 2016

A few days ago I submitted The Princess That Equestria Always Had to Equestria Daily, and today I got a response.

This blog will be quite long, but I ask you to read it and respond with your own thoughts on the critiques mentioned. I really would like this to appear on EQD one day. It's the fic I'm most proud of, and the one I've spent the most time cultivating.

I accept constructive criticism · 2:20pm Jan 11th, 2018

Don't be afraid to tell me (in a polite manner, of course), if I've done something wrong in a story. I may grumble, but I won't be mad at you for giving it to me. Be honest, and offer suggestions on how to improve what I've written. I will always take it into account, and if I can use the change without it compromising the story itself, I will use it, either to correct that story or in my next story.

Thank you.

List of movies or TV shows that I should defend from the Nostalgia Critic · 5:13pm March 10th

  • 2017 IT: I've never read the novel, seen the remake or watched the mini-series. I started to feel like I'm a fan of Stephen King mythos when I have got interested in this movie or the book. If I could defend this movie, I had to read the whole novel which has a lot of pages. The mini-series isn't very good and I have never seen it. I was about to watch 2017 IT, but my mom says it's 'too scary'.

Proper Downvoting Etiquette · 9:29am Jan 25th, 2018

Got my first downvote today, and honestly, I was just as happy about it as I was about the upvotes. Except there's one little issue...

Whoever downvoted didn't tell me what they thought was wrong. Did they just dislike it on principle? Was the pacing bad? The dialogue? If you don't tell me what I did wrong, how can I improve?

The Problem With Shellstrings, or "Look Out! A New Untalented Critic Approaches!" · 12:42am Jun 27th, 2016

Hello all, what is it like 6 of you wonderful weirdos now, that are reading this mess. I'm back from my post graduation hiatus that was never announced for a few reasons.

A. I assumed, and still assume, no one actually cares for this worthless content.

B. It's hard to write for a small audience using a non-literary medium when no feedback is given *cough* *cough* messages and comments are appreciated *cough*

I have opinions about opinions. · 8:25pm Feb 3rd, 2016

Good news! I'm keeping all my Patreon obligations, even if I haven't fulfilled, you know, the intended purpose of it.

But I'm still writing 1,000 words a day, every day — even if it isn't all pony — and I'm still doing this weekly blog post, as promised.

Now, I'm not saying I'm a hero, but if you could post a comment saying that, I'd totally agree with you.

Comments and Input · 6:06am Nov 1st, 2015

So I'm curious people. I want to know what parts in 'Atonement for a Wayward Dragoon' you've found to be the most interesting, riveting, and entertaining.

I want to improve my craft by honing in on my strengths. But that's not to say I don't want to get input on areas that I need improvement on. So, I suppose this blog will be the place to discuss the story's elements and events.

(Not that I'm a hero or anything, but...) The autistic are not people to criticize on! · 12:47am Jan 24th, 2018

LonelyFanboy48 is a friend of mine, and he's autistic just like me. Just because he wrote bad doesn't mean that anyone can just criticize at first glance. Writers like him or me are considered not perfect, and we care about it either! People with disabilities deserve more better respect than they'd realize, because none of us claim to be perfect! People can hate on what I say, what I do, what I write, or whatever, but nothing

Death of The Author - The self-serving appropriation of someone else's work.

Here's the thing. I don't believe in the "Death of the Author". Quite honestly, it's little more than an excuse to justify forcing your interpretation into a text and ignoring everything else that influenced the author on their choices—or what they were hoping to say—and replacing them with what the "critic" wants it to mean.

Gamer Stories · 10:01pm Jul 17th, 2018

Alright. I just wanna say I expected a bit more from you guys. [Begin New Game] was supposed to be a fun little dip into Gamer fanfiction, but you lot ruined it for me. I get it. I'm not by any standard a professional author. I am, however, a real person with thoughts and feelings of my own. All I wanted to do was simply make my own take on a Gamer fanfic, which is something I have no experience with. Was it the fact I had Twilight as the main character? Was it the fact I made her a Shinigami?
