Many years ago, back in the dawn times of 2014, I wrote The Stars Ascendant. It was a pretty popular story, and DRWolf did a reading of it.
Flash forward to 2017, and I run into DRWolf at Everfree Northwest. He remembers that he did a reading of one of my stories, but can't remember which one. I go through to my stories, and go back and find The Stars Ascendant.
Hello loyal(?) fans(?)! I have a new story to share!
STORIES!
Well, actually several writers (including RBDash47, WandererD, Vic Fontain, Monochromatic) have a booth (#9) for Twilight's Book Nook at Everfree Northwest.
Are you visiting the con? Why not go say hi? Maybe get a book or two while you're there. We're here because we like stories, so go get some stories.
Are you not? ... I can sympathize. But hey, they've got the booth anyway.
I didn't win. (Oh well. I had fun anyway.)
However I would like to know what the judges thought of my story since it made it to the finals and reviews are always nice.
Judges:
Titanium Dragon
Pen Stroke
BronyWriter
Horizon
Heartshine
Asylum
Silver Flare
PiquoPie
That's quite a lot of folks to ask...
So new episode today starts with Starlight talking crazy causing Twi to gasp and Spike's candy cane to drop out of a box... yeah, the poop joke is canon.
Also... SPOILERS AHEAD!
After a great deal of debate, I've decided I'm going to post this entire thing in 5 parts. This entire Retrospective is huge and I've had the help of dozens of people to get details and timelines right. Why? Because I wanted to make sure I captured every moment.
Today's post... today is about just how powerful something like EFNW can be.
Everfree Northwest was everything I wanted and more.
So much more.
The alarm went off again at 7:15… and again I didn’t drag myself out of bed until 7:30. But, I had to make it in time to get my seat with the Jurists for breakfast at Dave’s! But this time, we got a bonus! I ran into BlazzingInfero and Epic Yarn on their way down to breakfast and invited them along! Silver Flare joined us before too long as well, which was fun. They guy’s hysterical, even if he needs to learn to be social in a Discord server.
...I finally slept past 7:15.
Rejoice!
Still couldn’t wake up, even with a Venti London Fog. I almost got another! A lot of people got a late start, but I remember hanging out with Corejo, RedSquirrel (I think), Furled Scroll, but that was after saying goodbye to Hap!
Left to Right: Myself, Corejo (Background), Hap (Foreground), Fourths (Background), Arcshod (Foreground).
Long time no see, folks! I need to break my silence to turn a spotlight to a true labor of love: a new Chinese translation of Thou Goddess!
Dear Readers (including and especially all you Whig History buffs):
I wrote tonight's story, "This Armor," about a year ago. I didn't think much about it until recent events.
Hey all. Just wanted to give you a heads up that the Summer Sin Festival is coming up, where peeps write clop Secret Santa-style. I'm participating this year as a part of my multi-year attempt to make a clop story that's actually artistic. If this event sounds interesting to you, check out the group here. The registration ends on Thursday, so don't hesitate for too long if you want to do it.
Hello gents and gentesses. We did this last year and we're doing this again, although admittedly I won't be able to go through nearly as many stories as last time due to this being my final year in university and me being busy as all get-out. What am I doing, anyone who wasn't with us last year may be asking? Well, I participated in this years Everfree Northwest Scribblefest 2017, and in a grand and magnanimous show of solidarity I like to review my own opinions of some entries as well as try
Thursday started early for me. The entire family got up at 5 AM to take me to the airport.
My co-pilots for the drive to the airport.
Saying goodbye to the fillies
I'm alive! And have writing news, enough so that I need to do a State of the Author post for the first time in a while. But in the meantime, a quick heads up:
I'm about to fly to Seattle for this year's Everfree Northwest! Expect author social time, general convention shenanigans, and drunken pony Tarot readings in the evenings once the liquor starts flowing.
["Drink Plushies and MasterThief at EFNW. Shaka, when the Malort opened. Drink Plushies. Their hooves open. Drink Plushies. At rest."]
Dear Readers (most especially the ones who get the above reference unprompted):
[Tagged for White Space because if you like that story you'll love Horse Voice's stuff.
One critical thing I haven’t made clear enough: the only reason I managed to go to EFNW was because of EbonQuil’s generosity. I won’t go into specifics, but I can say with confidence that I would not have been able to enjoy this amazing time if it hadn’t been for him.
Also, I forgot to post a key moment of Thursday night’s activities: us watching Corejo play “The ComCast Game,” AKA No internet Game on Chrome last year!
Sunday started much the same as the other days. Try to get up at 7:15, fail and get up a little while after. This time though, we had a nice big group heading over to Dave’s for our last breakfast there.
