Recommended Story Reviews #11 – Tea Time, A Draconequus’ Guide to Immortality, The Cost of Life, Shipping Goggles, Correspondence · 10:14pm Jul 19th, 2016

Weeks ago, I started on this set with the intention of including a review of Eternal. Alas, I ended up reviewing five stories before I got around to reading it, and consequently it (along with Skywriter’s Heretical Fictions) got pushed off to another review post.

Why?

Because sometimes, when I’m stuck on a story, I go back and read through stories by others in the hopes of capturing some of their magic.

Recommended Story Reviews #4 – Whom the Princesses Would Destroy, A Canterlot Carol, Drinking Alone, Except With Two, Barrelled Up, Five Hundred Little Murders · 8:48pm Jul 20th, 2015

It has been a while since I’ve done a set of recommended story reviews.

Unlike my usual review sets, in these, I am drawing from stories that I put on my recommended and highly recommended lists before I started reviewing stories.

Today is Election Day in the United States, the crescendo of over a year and a half of people campaigning to be leader of the free world. Be sure to vote, if you haven’t already (I did in mid-October, because here in Oregon, we vote by mail – no waiting around in line, and plenty of time to research the topics while you’re voting).

Recommended Story Reviews #16 – The Numbers Don’t Lie, Disgraced, Learning Curves, An Afternoon for Dotted Line, Friends With Discounts · 12:26pm Jan 30th, 2017

Recently, I’ve been trying to be more productive. There are all too many times where I’m aware that I’m wasting my time, and I’m trying to make more of an effort to divert said “dumb time” into time where I actually accomplish something of value.

We’ll see how well it goes, but I’ve managed to put out a review set every other day since I started. So, progress, right?

Recommended Story Reviews #18 – Heretical Fictions, Tiny Wings, Shine, Taken for Granite, Groomed to Perfection · 7:33pm Jun 3rd, 2017

I’ve re-read Heretical Fictions a few times over the years, but kept on putting off posting a review of it until after I reviewed Eternal, as Heretical Fictions is a story about Twilight and Celestia reacting to Eternal being published in Equestria. Thus, that story’s review kept getting shuffled forward and forward in time, until finally I reviewed Eternal.

Recommended Story Reviews #10 – The Wrong Fork, Who We Are, The 18th Brewmare of Bluey Napoleon, Scoots’ Company, Little Deceptions · 12:19am May 28th, 2016

It has been a long time since my last recommended stories post, but I figured that before a nice long three day weekend (at least, here in the states, where Memorial Day is on Monday), some folks might want some good stuff to read.

All of these are taken off my favorites stories list from before I started writing reviews, so all of them are very good stories. Some of you may have read some of these, but if you haven’t, you shouldn’t keep missing out.

Hap Recommends Scribblefest 2017 #1 · 10:17pm Mar 11th, 2017

Hello gents and gentesses. We did this last year and we're doing this again, although admittedly I won't be able to go through nearly as many stories as last time due to this being my final year in university and me being busy as all get-out. What am I doing, anyone who wasn't with us last year may be asking? Well, I participated in this years Everfree Northwest Scribblefest 2017, and in a grand and magnanimous show of solidarity I like to review my own opinions of some entries as well as try

Hap Recommends Even More Scribblefest #5 · 7:54pm Mar 10th, 2016

Back for round five. Lets see what this latest batch has to offer! We've got a bit more slice of life again (which is absolutely no problem for me: just leaves the Dash award even more open for Weatherpony, if you ask me!) but the theme that dominates this round is actually mystery, which I wasn't expecting.

If you've not already checked out some of the other blogs I've done like this, you can check them out here:

Comic Recommendation: Rogue Diamond · 8:50am Jul 12th, 2015

Ahh finally... the payoff. I've waited so long for this moment. Also if you want more context, start at the beginning. The story is great for those who love AU Adventure stories about rebelling against an evil goddess-turned-tyrant. And also world flooding. Yeah that's great.

Hap Recommends Scribblefest #8: My Flight · 4:12pm Mar 25th, 2016

This story was introduced to me after reading Hat Man's reviews on other Scribblefest stories, and it immediately piqued my interest for a large number of reasons. The first was some similarities between this and my own entry, as both featured an Earth pony taking to the skies, as well as being more interested in the technical aspects of it, which appealed to my engineering background. I have, in fact, studied aerospace and find it very interesting.

Hap Reviews: Contest Entries 13 · 12:34pm Aug 31st, 2020

Hello hello folks.

I'm a bit delayed, but I do have two more entries from Krazy's Warm and Fuzzy Feelings event here for you all. I went out of my way to look for some of the ones with less exposure. One of them didn't even get 100 views, so do be sure to check them out and support the writers if you decide they sound interesting.

I will also, on a more personal note, attempt to publish the Cozy Glow entry this evening. Hopefully I will see youse all there. Onto the stories.

Book Recommendation: Horror Cavalcade · 11:21pm Oct 6th, 2021

Hello all.

Just wanted to check in and drop a recommendation for a pair of books I know about, that I felt would be seasonally appropriate.

Respectively, they are "Horror Cavalcade: From The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to Curse of the Werewolf," and "Horror Cavalcade: From The Pit and the Pendulum to The Sixth Sense."

August Update · 9:08pm Sep 2nd, 2018

I think I'm going to start doing these monthly. Keep myself accountable, and all that. I'm currently averaging about a chapter a week:

As I feared frankly expected, the chapters are still being split for length, so it's getting kind of hefty and we're looking to shoot for the 200k mark. I'm sure they'll get edited down a bit in rewrites, but probably not to the point where I can condense them back into singular chapters.
