Wednesday Reading: The Rule Of Trees · 7:04pm Jan 8th, 2020

"Why don't you make like a tree, and leaf?"
"I think I’ll make like a tree and stay exactly where I am for hundreds of years."
- Rollertown {and I'm probably misquoting}

Welcome, folks. Today we have a... I'm not sure how to categorize it? A... tree-based, historical, introspective kind of story? It's about the life {though not the death} of a tree.

A familiar tree.

Oh, and there's also ponies. But mostly one pony specifically.

Hap Recommends Scribblefest 2017 #1 · 10:17pm Mar 11th, 2017

Hello gents and gentesses. We did this last year and we're doing this again, although admittedly I won't be able to go through nearly as many stories as last time due to this being my final year in university and me being busy as all get-out. What am I doing, anyone who wasn't with us last year may be asking? Well, I participated in this years Everfree Northwest Scribblefest 2017, and in a grand and magnanimous show of solidarity I like to review my own opinions of some entries as well as try

NaPoWriMo Story: 42K Words To Go · 10:08pm Nov 7th, 2016

Hello everyone.

Sorry about the lack of an AppleDash story going up recently: I've been caught up editing it. It's well on the way, but I overestimated how quickly I'd be able to polish it up.

Does anybody know what this shenanigan is about? · 9:27pm Oct 27th, 2017

Turns out this was just some malware causing me mischief. It's sorted now, (thanks for that lads), but I'll leave this up for posterity's sake.

Hey, so, I google myself occasionally. Just to check if anything is going on nobody tells me about, and I found this weird list of sites with a .tk extension with my name on them, and I dunno what they're about:

So, this is kind of embarrassing. See, a while back, HapHazred asked me for advice on a contest, which I was happy to provide. Said contest then went live... and I kind of didn't say anything? :twilightblush: So let's fix that.

Hap Reviews: Contest Entries 6 · 1:04pm Nov 22nd, 2019

Hello again, folks. Today we have a couple of stories that looked promising; one that reminded me of a story I myself wrote back in 2016 (one of the most popular ones, too!), and a short story that I actually spent a good long time having to think about, as the things I ended up finding interesting about the story took a few rereads to sink in.

Let's see how they did!

Howdy howdy. I've been wanting to review/recommend some stories from the right back at it again shipping contest, because as usual I only ever exit my tiny corner of TWG to go, sneak out and enter in competitions before slinking back into my lair, and as a few of you probably know, I like reviewing and recommending (if I can) stories that turn up there, because contests are fun and I think that

Hap Recommends Scribblefest #8: My Flight · 4:12pm Mar 25th, 2016

This story was introduced to me after reading Hat Man's reviews on other Scribblefest stories, and it immediately piqued my interest for a large number of reasons. The first was some similarities between this and my own entry, as both featured an Earth pony taking to the skies, as well as being more interested in the technical aspects of it, which appealed to my engineering background. I have, in fact, studied aerospace and find it very interesting.

Hap Reviews Contest Entries 9: Love Will Travel As Long As You Let It · 4:20pm Jul 21st, 2020

Hello. As of yesterday, the judges from the contest 'right back at it again' have posted a list of finalists. Like I briefly touched on before, I don't really like the vibe of reviewing stories after the judges start making public decisions, which means that I don't want to review any of the others that are currently in the judging process, nor really review ones that haven't since that draws comparisons with ones that have made it in, and so on and so forth. That leaves one story

Hello again. As I frequently try to do for stuff contest related (especially stuff I participate in), I like to read stories by other entrants, and since I read them, I may as well review them to shine a bit of a spotlight on the contest and hopefully convince some folks to give them a try if they sound like their cup of tea.

I like contests, and competitions in general, even when I don't win, so this is usually pretty good fun.

Hello hello folks.

I'm a bit delayed, but I do have two more entries from Krazy's Warm and Fuzzy Feelings event here for you all. I went out of my way to look for some of the ones with less exposure. One of them didn't even get 100 views, so do be sure to check them out and support the writers if you decide they sound interesting.

I will also, on a more personal note, attempt to publish the Cozy Glow entry this evening. Hopefully I will see youse all there. Onto the stories.

Hap Reviews: Aliens Abduct an Orange Yokel, by Crimmar · 5:28pm May 5th, 2018

Hello gents. Since I have a few days before my next test, I've decided to spend most of this week-end relaxing and reading a fanfic or two, something I've not done in a while (my uni has been slaughtering me). Since I'd quite like to spotlight some of the ones I found fun, I've decided to do quick reviews/shout-outs in case any of you guys who haven't read them might be interested in checking them out. Since I've not finished the one I'm currently reading, I wanted to chat about a story I read

Scribblefest 2016 Winners Announced! · 10:03am Apr 14th, 2016

Okidok, at around the same time me and the other admins of HazMat wrapped up our own contest, the results of the EFNW Scribblefest also arrived. There was only one story that got a winning category that I didn't read (the Twilight award, which interestingly was the one I figured two other stories would have a shot at winning) so I can say with pretty reasonable confidence that I'm happy with all the winning entries (even the poem one. I still hate poetry with a vengeance, though, but I do think

Incomplete Review: Dear Princess Twilight · 6:51pm Sep 11th, 2021

Howdy. Quick preface; for years I've tended to not do reviews of incomplete stories because, given the choice, I tend to prefer reviewing the complete thing. I believe it's perfectly possible to recommend stories that are incomplete or unfinished, but as I decided to pick and choose what I wanted way more, I decided to afford myself this small luxury.

Like I mentioned in my last one of these, I've stopped reading through three at a time because I've been getting much busier, and will only be reading and giving my thoughts on stories that either get requested or recommended to me directly. So there's only going to be one story in this one, I'm afraid.
