The experiment that Twilight, Applejack and Rarity are performing at the mall is interrupted by the arrival of magically imbued items from Equestria. The hunt for them will wind up answering the question they set out to solve.

After a disagreement with Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle has a talk with Rarity about friendship—especially with someone who can be stubborn.

To love somepony is easy. To let them into your heart, somepony you care for, somepony you want to protect, somepony you would do anything for. Letting them in is easy. The pain comes when you lose them. This is something Applejack is not unaware of. However, after suffering yet another crippling loss of life to one of her own, the well-known farm pony begins to lose herself, falling into a pit of despair, trapping herself in a cycle of self-blame, anger, and agony. Watching her friend do this to herself is unbearable for Rarity, who makes her way to the farm determined to try and help the friend who doesn’t want it. But she has to try. Because, isn’t that what friends are for?

Rarity and Applejack never thought that they would ever pursue a romantic relationship together - they just seemed too different. Funny how they managed to click and last for this long.

Now happily married and expecting their first child, one night - Applejack catches her wife talking to their unborn filly. Somehow, both of their emotions are exposed and they might just learn that sometimes, going with the flow is easier than worrying.

Time has passed by, she and Applejack have another child, their daughter has grown up and their family is more than content.

...however, when Rarity comes home from another business trip, the welcoming she gets is far from sweet and calm.

It's rude, and very blunt, but it makes her see things in a whole new light.
