Equestria has suffered through it's first war in over a thousand years. The ponies overcame Chrysalis and her changeling swarm, but only through a desperate alliance with communist Stalliongrad. Now, with a fragile peace under looming threats, the ponies of Equestria call into question the leadership of the alicorn sisters. Celestia has a difficult decision before her. What will she do?

Daybreaker's Empire is in ruins. The Entirety of the continent had banded together to attempt to take her Empire down, and with her sister Luna leading the charge the Empire was both outnumbered and outmatched.

Now the Solar Empire is on it's last legs. The Continental Alliance is closing on Canterlot, the last citadel of the Mad Empress, and Daybreaker feels the sins of her past, the crimes she has committed, and her final judgement closing on her.

For over a millennium, Equestria has seen (mostly) peace, with the barest of militaries, seen as "unnecessary" due to the prolonged period of harmony and friendship that took root within the country. However, that is quickly changing. With Stalliongrad having broken free from Equestria years prior, and the Changeling hives newly reunited under Queen Chrysalis, the age of peace is coming to a quick- and bloody- end.

It has been many years since the war started...

Chrysalis and her armies rolled over our defenses, overwhelming our forces with sheer numbers. We fought a fighting retreat, always on the run from the swarm. We thought it would be over, that this would be the end of Equestria, and the end of Harmony...

But it was not so. We gathered our strength and held our ground, at last. Desperately our soldiers fought on and held the swarm off. Ponies took up arms to bolster our ranks or grabbed a tool to aid the war industry.

And now, after all these years, we remain in a stalemate. The Changelings adopted their own variant of total warfare. They launch raids on defensive positions at night, send bomber squadrons to destroy civilian centers all across Equestria and sink civilian cruisers out on the sea.

The war drags on, and my ponies grow tired of grieving the loss of their homes and loved ones. It is time for Equestria to commit to this war and leave behind our outdated principles of pacifism and harmony.

This war has brought upon us a new age. And with it, a new Equestria must rise!

Coal Coke's war ended ten years ago, when the Great War itself ended. He'd served his time, and gone home, still in one piece.

Well, mostly one piece. Physically, anyways.

But, when a particular case begins to bring back memories he'd hoped he had buried, Coal has to balance a deteriorating mind, and painful echoes of the past if he is to solve the murder of a local Celestian Priest in his hometown of Manehattan.
