I’ll just jump into it: PONY Legacy has been republished.
(If you never noticed -- and you could be forgiven for that -- I unpublished it several years ago since I was making some major rewrites to the existing chapters.)
The entire story is completely done and ready for publication, but I know some people like to consume stories bit by bit, so I’ll be doing weekly updates.
The existing story content (prologue and first four chapters) have been replaced by updated versions. I considered throwing in a new chapter or two as well, but we’re already looking at 20k words and I didn’t want to overwhelm anyone. Updates will go up every Wednesday, starting next week.
For those (like me) who want to unhinge your jaw and devour completed stories whole, the final update will be on July 14, 2021 -- PONY Legacy’s 10th birthday.
If you’d like something to listen to while you read -- or if you’d like minor hints at upcoming plot points via track titles -- the story’s (largely) original soundtrack, created back in 2011 based on my original outline for the story, is available to stream on YouTube. (There are download links in the descriptions if that’s more your speed.)
So… yeah.
It’s a decade late but it’s here.
Do me a favor and don’t go through my blog history to read literally years of me going “hey I’m working on PONY Legacy… hey PONY Legacy will be done soon… hey PONY Legacy is done, just gotta edit it…”

Is the soundtrack linked to from within the story?
This has been on my read later, it is moving to tracking now so I remember to read it.
Oh no, not another story set after Celestia mysteriously disappears. I just got done crying for a week straight after reading one of those by Cynewulf.
So I’m gonna be honest, my memory is terrible and I forgot about this story.
I saw it in featured and didn’t really bat an eyebrow.
But then I notice new chapters in my bookshelf. Yay! Hold on, this story has no read chapters. How’d that happen? So I look into it and find myself here.
Interesting that it kept the fave despite being unpublished, but it makes sense back-end web-wise.
Though now I’m curious what changed. I read the story too long ago to be able to remember the original plot, but as I’m writing this vague memories are coming back, very vague.
I’ll give it a read at some point :3
Addendum to my previous comment. I do wonder if there’s any other stories of yours that have gone off the radar. I looked back through your blog posts despite you saying not to and I’ve spotted a few stories that I don’t see on the site.

It's not! Both because it bugs me when fics do that and because there isn't a direct one-to-one correlation between the tracks and the story since the soundtrack predates some restructuring I did.

PONY Legacy is about a tenth as long as Cyne's masterpiece, so I'd say you'll only cry for, at most, a couple hours after finishing it.

I might pick that back up with PONY Legacy done. It's shorter so in theory it shouldn't take me ten years to finish. Maybe only five.
It's been interesting having an unpublished story republished, and the weird little inconsistencies that have popped up.
1. I published the rewritten chapters as new chapters rather than replacing the text in the existing ones. I chose to do it this way because I figured old comments might not make any sense with the new story content and now old readers like yourself have a better indicator that if you read it in the old days, you probably don't want to just pick it up where you left off before.
However, I didn't delete the old ones; they're still sitting in the story on the backend, unpublished. I did that in case I ever wanted to refer back to an existing comment, which I've done from time to time over the years. I expected this to make the comments only visible to me; instead, all of the historical comments are still visible to everyone on the story page, but not on the individual chapter pages. I think that's pretty confusing so I might go ahead and screenshot them or something and then delete the old chapters to clean things up.
2. While PONY Legacy was still unpublished, I loaded all the new chapters into FIMFic, and then published the chapters I planned to launch with. Even though the story itself was still unpublished, FIMFic pushed notifications of new chapters to everyone who had PONY Legacy tracked... so then they clicked on them and got 404s. I woke up to several confused messages from hopeful readers. =/ So I republished it ahead of schedule
3. The simple act of republishing removed about a half-dozen likes from it! I'm guessing that some accounts had been deleted in the intervening period but the backend didn't recalculate the likes stats on it until it had a reason to.
What's the story behind having an entire soundtrack for a story? I've never seen that before and I'm shocked by how many songs there are! Did you write the songs yourself?

Made by a fan who quit the fandom and deleted their youtube channel, requiring me to trip over his still visible fimfic account and beg for audio files.

There was, originally, one per chapter! Which is wild to me. And I can take no credit for them in any meaningful way.
When I first published the story back in 2011, it was hot on the heels (ish) of both FIM season 1 and TRON Legacy coming out; a brony musician named Brex (BaroqueNexus here on FIMFic) reached out and asked if I'd be interested in having a soundtrack, and I was like mmm yes that sounds incredible? I gave him my notes/outline for the fic and he wrote/composed/produced them all based on that.
Years later after he left the fandom he deleted all his stuff, and 5525290 reached out to him and was able to get ahold of what local files he had left. I dug through my old emails to fill in some of the remaining gaps, and Brex gave his blessing to upload it all to YouTube so I did!

Deleting the chapters won't remove the comments. Only way to remove comments is to delete them manually or delete the story. The comments are tied to the story and reference the chapter, not the other way around.
Least I'm pretty sure that's how it worked.

Ah, hm. Well, thanks, but in that case, I hope it's not too much of a problem if I don't listen to the soundtrack when/if I get to the story? If the only place I can find a link to it (Or even a mention of it?) is this blog post, I'm concerned I won't remember it or somesuch thing. Sorry.
