BronyCon Bookstore Inventory Survey & Upcoming PFP Titles · 2:20pm Jun 11th, 2019

EDIT: The survey is closed! Thanks to everyone who participated. If you missed it, feel free to let your favorite authors know directly that you're interested in their printed fanfic.

Hey folks! If you could take a moment to fill out this survey, that would be very cool of you. I'd like to help all the authors who plan to make books available in Aquaman's Golden Oaks Bookstore booth at BronyCon get some idea of how many to stock there.

  • The books listed in this survey aren't guaranteed to be available there, but if all their information is listed, it means I personally talked with the author to verify they have their book(s) ready or almost ready.
  • There are a few "unknown/untitled" entries -- these are authors who have signaled in the past that they intend to have one or more books available, but they didn't respond to me or aren't far enough along in the process to provide solid information here.
  • Prices are close estimates but aren't set in stone/may fluctuate slightly.

The survey will run for a week, and then each author will get their data so they can make decisions about how many to order.

Thank you for your help!

I mentioned in the Ponyfeather Publishing Call for Submissions (which you'll note is still open!) that PFP currently has a few titles in production -- and they are all listed in the survey, because they should all be available at BronyCon. If you can't make it to the con, no worries! Any leftover BC stock will be available to purchase via mail (signed by the author, where I can swing it); once any leftover stock has been sold, every PFP title will be available for order directly from Lulu.com in both paperback and hardback. Free ebooks will be available as well.

I'll leave it to each author to make their own post about their titles if they want; for now, here's every PFP book that will be ready for the con:

That's in addition to the titles already announced:

Which brings us to a nice round dozen titles for BronyCon.

I am super excited to get these books into your hands and I can't wait for them to be available. Just last night I ordered test prints of several of them to verify cover and interior layouts are good, and I'll post pictures of every book sometime before the con so you can see what you're buying ahead of time.

Don't forget to respond to the inventory survey! Even if you aren't interested in any PFP titles or don't plan to go to BronyCon -- the PFP books are only a fraction of what will be available, and letting authors know that you're interested in their books but won't be at the con helps them decide how risky overstocking is. And feel free to share/reblog/signal-boost the survey link with your own followers! The more people see it, the better off your favorite authors will be.

I answered as best I could. If they didn’t specify what they’d be making, though, I couldn’t say I wanted it.

Also, I’ll be honest, my preference would be to be able to buy the books myself off Lulu at my leisure.

Totally fine! All PFP titles will be available on Lulu afterwards; some of the others may be, but that will be up to them.

I’ll be planning to make mine available on LuLu after BronyCon is over. I imagine at least a few other authors will be doing the same.

Oh god I'm going to spend a thousand dollars on books. Oh god.

A couple people have gone through and checked literally every item on the survey, and it's just like...

Responded and signal boosted!

I'd like to, but I've sworn off playing along with google's spyware bullshit. Not starting an account, even a dump account. I tolerate ads here because I like you guys so much.

Yeah, I doubt that as well.

I can respect that; I just needed to cut down on people spamming the survey and skewing the numbers. If you'll be at the con, feel free to reach out to authors directly to let them know you couldn't respond to the survey but you'll be there are want a copy of their book? Here's a quick list of every title in the survey.

*eyes the book list with increasing dismay*

sweet crystal pony jesus, I'm going to need to pack a porter in my luggage and buy them a plane ticket from Baltimore back home. It'll be cheaper than all of the checked baggage fees.

It's been exhausting just trying to get this list put together. I shudder to think of the infrastructure that's going to be involved in actually having them for sale.

I really appreciate you putting this survey together! There are a few books I'm interested in on this list and it's really helpful to know what I should save up for!

Signal boosted, and I plan on making my three available on Lulu for a certain amount of time after Bronycon too. Still toying with the idea of a strictly limited printing of Monster in the Twilight/Letters From a Little Princess Monster.

5073177 *cough* Time Enough For Love *cough*

5073248 Oh, you BUM! You snuck it in with the others. (marks one more book on my buy list.)

Now I know where most of my convention spending budget is going.

This is kinda the bad thing, though. Like for sanity reasons, I will attempt to limit the entirety of my con purchases to books + a Lauren Faust photo/autograph. I dare not even tempt myself with the rest of the vendor hall; I've already axed a couple books off my first pass at the survey because holy crap it's a lot of books.

Can my willpower hold steadfast?! :raritydespair:

Honestly, my advice to anyone looking to buy books is to only buy ones there that you want to get signed by authors that are attending the con. Otherwise, wait and buy them on Lulu later.*

*Obviously only applies to titles that will be available after the con.

So, I am an interested party (should I call myself a potential customer?), but my answers may very well change before the con. I have specifically been waiting for a list such as this because I don't know a lot of these authors by name and there's several stories I recognize by name but have never read myself.

Point is, I'm going to try reading through several of these books to decide if I want them or not, and I'm not sure if it's fair to cast my vote before I know what all I want, since several authors would be left out that I may discover later that I want a copy of something they're bringing.

(Cross-posting this to make sure I get a quick answer.)

The responses received in the survey aren't a commitment or anything -- just give it your best guess.

The survey will be open until next Monday or Tuesday, and it should allow you to edit your response until then as well.

Wew, just in time. It always happens that I don't look at the site for a few days and I miss everything. I prefer hardbacks of... a lot of items on that list. Too many (no u, there is no such thing as 'too much pony'). I didn't check any of the 'Unknown' ones because that's just too vague.

I'm absolutely fine with buying (where possible) off Lulu at some later point, though they don't seem to have the really good discounts too often anymore (aka, the 30% ones and the free shipping ones), so I wanted to ask: would leftover stock be lots and lots of books in one shipment, or would it be a dozen separate shipments?

For PFP titles (the twelve listed in the bullet points in this blog), if there are any leftovers, I could certainly ship them together.

Otherwise, most of the books in this survey represent individual efforts by individual authors, and I don't think anybody's planning on coordinating a single shipping effort/warehouse/whatever for the leftovers.

(To be honest, I am really, really hoping that there are no leftovers, because I don't want to deal with them!)

Fair enough. And I agree that not having leftover stock would be the best!
