My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 9 Episode 3: "Uprooted" (SPOILERS) · 4:01pm Apr 13th, 2019

In which the Token Six carry on last season's proud tradition of remaking episodes from seasons past only not as good.

The Token Six find themselves in a shared dream--summoned by the Spirit of Harmony.

There's...a LOT to unpack from their varied dreams/nightmares. Silverstream wants to be the first non-pegasus Wonderbolt but freaks out when she has to fly a show immediately after passing, Bug Part #10 is worried about falling one credit short of graduation or something, Smolder is caught having a fancy princess tea party dream, and I honestly didn't care what the last two were once I caught on to what's going on because I'm so over the Token Six. Oh, and Yona was falling because boring yaks have boring nightmares.

So anyway, the Token Six get summoned back to school early by the Tree of Harmony. Meanwhile, Twilight is freaking out about orange highlighters. When the students bust in, they're shocked to learn about what just went down while they were on vacation.

The Token Six try to Friendship Laser the Tree back to life, but that obviously doesn't work, so the Tokens decide to "do something to honor the Tree's memory". While the non-pony Tokens are all off doing weird shit to get permission to come back to Ponyville early to work on the Tree problem, Sandbar has been spending his time...

...completely fucking everything up by clearing away the remains of the Tree and planting a new, ordinary, non-Harmonious Tree in its place.

:facehoof:

Afterward, the Tokens argue about how to memorialize the tree. In other words, it's basically the exact same plot as "Castle Sweet Castle". After it all falls apart and they break out in arguments, Yona makes the big "the Tree lives on in our hearts" speech. Then they work together to combine all the crap they were doing before with what's left of the Tree to make a Clubhouse of Friendship. Which magically grows from a junky looking arts and crafts project to a miniature version of Twilight's castle in the ruins of the Two Sisters castle.

Come on, man. We've only got what, 23 episodes left until THE END OF THE SERIES--can we maybe NOT squander those precious 23 episodes remaking older episodes in bullshit ways? :ajbemused:

7/10 for a pretty meh episode with characters I honestly don't give a frack about.

Gallus, Flim Flam apprentice.

Tree house: sprouts
Me: "Buy our toys!"

You know you've messed up when a yak has to be the voice of reason.

Calling it The Temple of Harmony to differentiate it.

Oh, and we got a small cameo of Yona's mother.

I guess maybe an episode ellaborating on the Tree of Harmony's fate just wasn't a workable concept for a twenty two minute episode. :facehoof:

This review feels a little... spiteful....

Surprised you scored it so high if you think that negatively towards it. Sounds more like a 4 or 5 than a 7.

You would not believe what happened when I watched the BN stream for of this episode: During when the episode was playing, the EAS system for BN King went off during the episode, which caused some to miss huge chunks of dialogue.

I will tell you though..... that has to be the most rarest thing that has ever happened for any MLP stream!

*What* toys? They haven't put out anything really new since the movie, especially with playsets. One "School of Friendship With Twilight Sparkle" last year, and that's been about it. No Young Six, no other playsets, no blindbags, couple of brushables.... It's like Hasbro's abandoned that part of the mix.

I mean yes it’s a rehash of an older episode and while I do kind of complain about that, I feel the conflict here is more believable since they are younger and they actually are thinking more about the tree itself than themselves. *coughRAINBOW* I

I will say I originally was gonna say it was an okay episode but I’ll bump it up to good since I actually like the design of...whatever that thing is.

The 7 is to be fair to the episode itself, which isn't terrible and does a couple of important things. If my review seems spiteful, scornful, or wrathful it's simply because they're WASTING precious final episodes on rehash scripts. That's not something I can blame on the episode itself or its writer, but on the top level decision makers.

I stopped watching somewhere around ep 5-6 or S8. I wanted to give Student 6 a chance but I just lost interest in the show. Are the rehashed M6 eps a theme with them?

To be honest, I pretty much stopped giving a rip about the final season when I learned that it involved making a bunch of ponies who can barely manage their own goddamn lives half the time into the rulers of an entire country.

I dissent the writers are finnaly giving me what I wanted all season last season. more time to build the token 6 (tbb I would refer to the trio in much harsher terms if this was a more un PC comment thread) up as characters different than the mane 6. one more episode around them and I can die happy.

also did you catch the stream that was interrupted by the emergency alert system. eventually started laughing it was so funny

I have actual cable, I don't watch it on streams ^^;;

At least someone agrees with me that this show is shit XD

Its not shit, just different from what it used to be. That’s bound to put off at least some of those here from the start who were drawn in by the early show’s appeal.
