State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

Super Trampoline is doing more video reviews! These are always fun. :D

And Griffin from City of Doors did a reading of TWILIGHT SPARKLE FIXES EVERYTHING, which was fun. :D

The Barcast needs your help! I'll let Ferret explain.

I wasn't doing anything in particular yesterday (not that I don't have anything in particular to do c.c), so I decided to bust out some Binding of Isaac while listening through my audiobook list. So there's a few reviews for y'all today!

Also, now copying from GDocs takes out extra line breaks, ctrl-shift-V or no. :| What is with this interface?

The Trifling Affair That Happened on a Thursday That While Undignified and Disappointing in Its Outcome Was at Least Not Boring - or - The Great Breezie Declaration of War by ambion
Reading by Winged T. Spears
Genre: Comedy
In which Luna meets war head-on.
Okay, kids, how much do you find "breezies really suck" to be a funny joke? Because that's all this is, well, with maybe some sly LunaShy tucked in there as well. Me, I thought it was just fine for a one-joke fic of its length. :)

Private Study Time by An Intricate Disguise
Reading by Scarlett Blade
Sequel to Vantage Point
Mature: Sex
Genre: Clop
Twilight knows full well that Rainbow likes watching her. And she likes being watched.
Where Vantage Point was merely "cute", this sequel is shockingly effective. Though not quite focused enough on the comedy to be called sexual comedy, the scene with Starlight is still hilarious. Meanwhile, the sex part is, well, actually sexy, revelling in not just what Twilight is doing, but the actual state of being sexy and showing off for someone you know appreciates it. This is what clop should be trying to do, if you ask me.

A Little Batty by MetalJrock2299
Reading by Winged T. Spears
Mature: Sex
Genre: PWP
Fluttershy visits Rarity with something to tell her. But why is she a bat?

Y-You're a batpony again? Oh dear, that's no good…

If only the story had stopped there, it would have gotten my highest recommendation. Sadly, it continues, nonsensical and highly unsexy. The writing is uninspired, the events are standard, and it features some of the most stilted pillow talk I've ever seen. I'm not even sure it would be worth it for people with low standards.

When Things Weren't So Simple by Typoglyphic
Reading by Illya Leonov, SassMasterMickey and ShadowOfCygnus
Genre: Historical
When the alicorns appeared, not all bowed to them.
This is a very pleasant little piece, with two of Equestria's ancient rulers discussing what's to be done with their winged chancellors. I suppose I don't have much to say about it — certainly, most of it is worth discovering on one's own — save that it slots in well to a genre that I enjoy and have seen many, many entries for.

Anti Pesto to the Rescue by cyberlord4444
Reading by Winged T. Spears
Genre: Wallace and Gromit Crossover
Twilight and Fluttershy need professional help with a bunny problem.
It's about the flimsiest excuse for a crossover you could ask for, but this is charming in all the right ways. :D Maybe I'm a little nostalgic thanks to Winged T. Spears's heartfelt audiobook dedication and performance, but if you're a fan of the ol' W&G, you'll probably like this.

You Can Pick Your Friends by Mister Coffee
Reading by Scarlett Blade
Mature: Sex
Genre: 2P AiE Comedy
You're suddenly caught with the urge to scratch your butt. You're not alone.
I could've done without the sexual element in this story, myself, but I can't deny it's hilarious. But then you get to the end, and it's like it just cuts off mid-sentence… Ah, okay, I'm pretty sure now this is both sequel and parody of...

You Can Pick Your Friends by Admiral Biscuit
Read by Fimfiction
Genre: 2P AiE Comedy
You're suddenly caught with the urge to pick your nose. You're not alone.
Yeah, I think the previous story is a more sexual parody of this. This one, on the other hand, is Admiral Biscuit really pushing my buttons and going for that "sneeze fetishists" recommendation. >.> It's hilarious, though, and, I think, the better of the two, so I read them in the right order. Pinkie was the perfect pony for this story.

Friendship = Evil by PaulAsaran
Reading by Winged T. Spears
Genre: Cute
Celestia investigates the sudden appearance of a well defended book fort in the royal library.
This is great. :D The first part is indelibly cute, the second features the kind of logic only children (and certain internet pedants) can produce, and through it all is the story of Celestia trying to deal with her prodigal student, who is nevertheless just a little filly. This is the kind of fanfiction I like to see!

I don't link to Youtube readings of Mature fics, as I believe that is against site rules. :B

Oooooh. Makes sense. Pardon my brain fart.

You lazy sod.:derpytongue2: Thanks for thinking I summed it up well though.

There's a Wallace & Gromit crossover? Well, that one's going on the list right now, if not sooner.

Seeing as how you like the ol' W&G, Pearple Prose did one a few years ago too. It's good.

Thanks! Also insta-added.

Hey, thanks for the little nod to the Barcast. We appreciate it.

One of my stories got a review and a reading:yay:
