A good story displays a moral, the best ones attach you to the characters who display them.

Background shamelessly stolen from an actual SoT book
I'd recommend giving that one a read!

    Featured?!

Y'know for a moment there I was scared I'd lost my touch when it came to writing after I took those years on hiatus... this is a really encouraging sign.

Thank you all so much for showing me I've still got it! It's reassuring, and more than a little flattering. Don't think I've really processed it yet, since I basically just woke up.

    Good to be Back

I won't promise that I'll be able to return to my old projects immediately, or even at all. But I did mean it when I said I was coming back! I've spent too long not doing anything about my passion for writing, and that needs to change. :twilightblush:

So, in I come with a brand new story to tell! Please, come and tell me what you think of the beginning to the Coves of Courage!

    The Old Bones Creak

The pegasus' eyes fluttered open blearily. How long had it been since they closed? Weeks? Months? His coat felt uneven and unkempt, his mane was longer than he remembered, and thick with tangles he could feel without even moving yet. When his eyes adjusted to the low light around him, the dusk seeping in through a boarded up window; everything he had known was coated in moss and lichen. Vines

Top 9 Underrated Fics: Amethyst Theatre Reviews (Shoutouts) · 3:25am Jul 1st, 2017

Let's face it, a lot of good stuff gets overlooked on here. Especially if you don't turn of the View Mature setting. But sometimes I am absolutely dumbfounded by how the masterpieces listed below can have so few views, and very little likes when they clearly deserve more!

Therefore, I'm going to dedicate this blog to listing out the fics I've read that I think are the most tragically under-appreciated. And, though I make no promises, I'll do my best to limit it to one fic per author. If I surpass that, there's good reason for it. I'll also not advertise my own works, since you're most likely already following me.

So sit back, relax, and give these authors their well-earned love...

#9:

Let's Talk
By TheTalentlessPony

Though this author gets a fair amount of recognition, I'm surprised by how few views this fic has gotten. Though it is a shipfic, it focuses more on a gentle moment between Rainbow Dash and Soarin, giving this fic a quiet- and even calming -atmosphere. If you're into romance, or just like a quiet break from all the intensity and black-and-red alicorns, this Slice of Life is definitely worth checking out.

Twilight's First Fan
By Neff

Another one of the slower works, this one mainly focuses on a hyperactive filly with a heart of pure gold. I have five nieces, and I can testify that the author captures how the innocence of children can be both an annoyance and a blessing. Plus, the message of the story- which I won't dare give away -is immensely touching the way it's presented, even though it's been done a million times. If you want a calm story that can still bring a tear to your eye, this one is worth every second of your time.

Last Call for Berry Punch
By BoardGameBrony

If you've read my noir tale There's a Crayon in My Soup, then you're probably familiar with this style of writing. And I give BoardGame full credit for inspiring me with this very work! It's set in a darker tone, definitely, but it holds that classic noir charm that can only come from someone who pours their heart into their narration. This fic was started last year, and hasn't yet gotten another chapter, which is a real tragedy in and of itself. This story deserves to blossom into completion: and I hope you all check it out, and see if you can agree.

Jurassic Pony III
By Mistercokehold8

Jurassic Park, but with Ponies! This is a thrilling reenactment of the third Jurassic Park movie featuring a half portion of the Mane Six returning to the cursed island for a third time. If you enjoyed the Jurassic Trilogy, yet thought it lacked character, Coke makes up for all of it by capturing each and every thrill that the movies had to offer perfectly! Relive your nostalgia as you quest alongside ponies reliving their worst nightmares!

#5:

Maud and Boulder
By Vanilla Mocha

Yes, FiMfiction's resident coffee mare wrote an amazing work once more. This time, it even caught the attention of Dr. Wolf, earning a full reading from him! Now, this tale introduces a backstory for Boulder that I don't think I've ever heard of before, and it does it in such a beautiful explanation for why Maud is how she is. This one probably won't make you cry, but it's a refreshing slice of life in a world of chaos.

#4:

A Different Kind of Hearts and Hooves Day
By Just a Random Pegasus

With all the quiet, sad, or even dark stories on this list, I feel that a comedy would go great on this spot. And by Cthulhu, I just happen to know the perfect one! Yes, it is a romance, but it's a sweet-hearted comedy at it's core. It's humour comes from the awkward and confusing world of trying to ask out your crush, and Random does brilliantly with it. I couldn't get through the entire thing without bursting out into laughter, and I don't think you'll be able to either! So if you can, check it out! Because this quick dose of fluff will have you rolling on the floor.

#3:

Time Waits for Nopony
By Berry Delight

Dear Celestia, this one hurts. Each time I revisit it, it's a delightful trip through the darker side of life. This masterpiece focuses on Colgate, as she answers the real gift behind her Cutie Mark. Everyone knows it's about time, but it's the kind of time that no one seems to be able to figure out, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Berry captures the dark tones of the story, and makes them work in an amazing way. The fact that I haven't seen this on the feature box is just unforgiveable. This is a journey you don't want to miss.

#2:

Their Laughter and Hers
By Galaxina-the-Unicorn

I cannot stress enough how much I love this fic, and how much of an inspiration it has been. What might look like a sort of creepy romance at first actually makes more and more sense both logically and emotionally the more times you read it, and it portrays one of the faults behind Discord's logic in Return of Harmony. I won't dare give away the twist, as it's literally handed to you on a silver platter, but I strongly recommend this thought-provoking story.

And the #1 Most Underrated Tale is:

Someone Still Loves You
By Jowijo

I know, I know, I've talked a lot about this one in the past, and it has 1.5k views.
But... dear God is this story worth it! It takes place directly after the events of Crusaders of the Lost Mark, and focuses on the lives of Rainbow Dash, Rumble, and Scootaloo. What I really love about this story is how thought-provokingly true to life it is, because every single character- main, side, or even background -can play equal parts protagonist or antagonist. There is no clear road to resolving a situation that just gets worse and worse, and each character has to confront things about themselves and each other that they often didn't know existed. This story continues to be executed with little flaw, and definitely deserves more recognition.

Until Next Time, God Bless You!

I'm Amethyst Dawn, and I review it so that you don't have to!

:pinkiegasp::applecry: You.... featured.... one of my stories?! ....and make it sound so much better than i feel it is.... Dosh garnit you're gonna make me cry....

Hmm... I'll have to check out a few of these. I take that Someone Still Loves You is a shipfic, but... perhaps it's worth reading regardless? :duck:

Great list you have there.

I mean every word, my friend.

4588411
You won't regret it! :ajsmug:

Thanks! I might do another similar list later on.

I agree about Maud and Boulder:twilightsmile:

I look forward to seeing it.

A lot of people overlook dating sims, just 'cause they're "2-dimensional" or "perverted" or "YER A FRICKIN' WEEABOO!". But honestly, I can see Huniepop fitting that description, just not this one game called "Sunrider Academy". If a guy asks me how I "like my women" or something of that sort, I say "I like my women... with personality!". Whether said personality is wacky and practicing a sport with lines like "I'm gonna eat your straight outta your ****** and ..." you get the idea, or something adorable and having *** with lines like "N-no way!" and "Ch-Chigara'a a pure girl!" I'm sorry, where am I going with this again?

4588476
I.. Was just about to ask you that same thing. :derpyderp2:

Came here via the Shameless Self-Promotion Group (see? It can work!) as I love lists like this. I've only read one of these (Time Waits for Nopony) which I had fairly mixed feelings about* but several of the others looks pretty interesting, and I'm sure I'll read a few of them in due course. Thanks for the heads-up!

* I said it was an interesting idea and good reading, but I wasn't quite sure about the central character's... character. If you can get past that, I suspect you'll enjoy it.

I actually read "Maud and Boulder" because I love anything Maud.

Yay!': yay:
And you're welcome.
