An important message for a dark subject, give a read

Pen Dragon has made an passionate and important petition, one I think is best served by their own words. So please, for the sake of a benign website that has brought such entertainment and joy to many, give this a look.

    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

In a lot of pain, any advice?..... ow · 7:40pm Feb 27th, 2016

Pulled a bunch of muscles in my back last night with workout. Tried to sleep it off to see if that help, but come today and it's still there. Location is in my middle-back at lower portion of ribcage along the spine. I've got a high pain threshold. I've been bitten by an alligator, fell down stairs, got arm stuck in a powered door, smashed into some coquina rock by a wave; and had a backpack drop on my head from two stories up. And this, this hurts. Shifting position hurts, sitting up hurts, walking hurts like the dickens, and leaning over to pick something up gave my nerves such a jolt it knocked the wind outta me. So it looks like my weekend is gonna be bed ridden with me studying on my chromebook because I sure as hell can't drive anywhere in this condition. I've got ice pack, hot shower, and pain meds but wanted to know if anyone here had any ideas.

pain killers and heating pad/hot bath

Oh my God! Senpai is in trouble! We need to help him! Corona, quick, get the elixers!

Hoooolllly balls, man. How are you not dead after tht madness?

From personal experience: Use pain meds and a heating pad. Heat will relax the muscles and loosen them up. when you get a chance, get a massage to loosen up further until they're relaxed.

I've had to work with such back pain and, trust me, ANY movement that's not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY will leave you in agony and only make it worse.

A nice, hot shower is what did it for me when I had a bad crick in my neck; the muscles really relaxed. Also, that's quite a bit to go through. Feel better, Tarb.

Don't forget then Bengay.

I strained by back pretty bad in Afghanistan, back in 2010, and it still bothers me today from time to time. I too have a high-threshold, and this kinda thing can bring someone to their knees.
If there's swelling, you should get some anti-inflammatory med's like Ibuprofen, and continue to ice it down. You should also do some light stretching for at least a half-hour everyday. My pull was in the lumbar, which is probably pretty common, and it sounds like yours is a little higher, so I don't know exactly what kind of stretches to recommend, but I'd say some over-head arm pulls, extend-and-flex, anything that's going to hit those affected areas.
Bedrest only prolonged it for me, and I found that being mildly active actually alleviated a lot of the pain.
Can I ask just what exactly you did? Lifting a weight off the ground, overextending, bad posture during an exercise?

Do you know what a Foam Roller is? It helps a lot, plus also hot shower works to.

If you still hurt a lot, I would go to a doctor.

Was on tail end of workout and I was doing dumbbell curls same way I have been doing for years. Went slow from a stable position up and down, I even to the precaution to sit down while doing them because I felt a tad winded. And about halfway through my normal rep count, when I got a twitching feeling in my back. Knowing it was abnormal, I stopped immediately and the pain set in about twenty minutes later. The workout itself wasn't too intense and I've been doing the exact same run through for about 5 years now (mix of aerobics and some weights) and this has never happened to me before.

If you are that much in pain, and although all the suggestions above are valid; I do like to clarified that depends on individuals, the type of pain and location, it's ether cold or heat that ease the pain not both, you might want to see a doctor who can then guide you to a physiotherapist or other specialist.

Don't go lightly on back pains, if you have something like a slipped disc you better have it treated immediately to avoid having such pain all along your life.

If the pain persists, I suggest you have Faith drive you to a doctor's appointment. That kind of crap could be serious. My sister has chronic back pain, and needs a pillow to drive.

If you were using heavier weight then usual, then that might have done it, the tendons or muscle fiber just wasn't ready for the increase.
If you were using the same weight you've been using before, then it could be that an earlier exercise exhausted the muscle group, and the strain of trying to maintain balance was too much.
Or, an auxiliary muscle might have failed.
It also sounds like being in a seated position may have been a factor, I'm thinking you usually do them while standing. It may have altered your posture just enough to put strain on the area.

Like others have said, if it's really bad, like you have contusions or ugly swelling, you may need to see a doctor, or a physical therapist. In the meantime, continue to treat it, and rehab the group.

Wow, you've been through a lot! I hope you get better!

Actually I was using a lighter set than my usual and I tend to swap around between standing and sitting (sitting puts less pressure on legs and spine). This was a pretty run of the mill exercise bought and I've done much heavier in the past with no issue, which is why this injury confuses me so much. But I will follow your advice.

Fortunately I know its not a herniated disk, since if that were true stuff like coughing, laughing, or sneezing would hurt and I'd have a weakness or loss of reflex in my legs; none of which has happened. Still, if this keeps up for awhile and keeps getting serious I will go to a doctor, rest assured. I got someone bringing me some heat jell and medicine.

As a nursing major, follow much what has already been said below for you Tarb. Plenty of bed-rest, ice-packs or cold-packs to reduce the swelling, fluids to help with the healing process, and some painkillers, like Ibuprofen, to help with the onset of pain.

It's possible that it's just a strained muscle from some fibers moving out of place in one part of your exercise, but unable to move back into position when needed because of your frequent standing and sitting. Again, like below, just take it easy today for you, but if this persists with no decrease in intensity of pain for the next 2-3 days, go see a doctor. Hopefully you have someone who can help you get there and take care of you.

3780838 Apologies, I was under the impression you two lived near each other ever since I heard you two were in a relationship.

Whether in the Real World or Virtual, the fact that you care to check on Tarb is heart-warming.

Well I hope your not laid-up for too long Tarb, so you can get back to fighting alligators and shipping all your characters. To speed you along, I took the liberty of sending you some light reading.

Fact I managed to earn the affections of such an angel still amazes me

My father got a teeter when he had a sore back and he used it every night and got better.

3780474 What this guy said.

If it persists after that, try a chiropractor. I know they're often dismissed as pseudoscientists, but I'll swear by them.

Yikes, that's rough. Sorry to hear that. :(

Ow.
Sorry about your back. Try to relax and loosen your muscles, it will relieve some of the tension going up your spine that can cause a vast majority of the pain. Massages also work. And maybe instead of ice packs, try heat therapy. Application of heat to the lower back is helpful longer term to stimulate blood flow and healing to the injured area. How do I know this? My mother is very smart when it comes to this kind of thing. That and I checked out this website: http://www.spine-health.com/conditions/lower-back-pain/pulled-back-muscle-treatment
As for the gator bite... Just building suspense...
What was it like? I've always wondered what it would feel like to be bitten by my favorite modern day reptile.

Heating is good for an "overuse pain", however, cold and ice massages are good to help pain in general
Freeze a dixie cup, and rub the ice over the effected area, then wait (don't move) until the area becomes warm again

Sorry to hear that you are in pain

Ah. I got a similar thing not too long ago. Except it was from my left shoulder (front and back) all the way down to my intestines. It hurt if I breathed too hard. The only thing you can do is take pain medication and wait it out while minimalizing effort.
