6181904 I don't think it's as simple a moral issue as you boil it out to be, nor do I think Silver is an awful pony. It's a complicated issue, with hurt people doing somewhat unreasonable things to avoid being hurt more. You are definitely correct in that Bottom would become very sad if Silver started avoiding her, sad enough to do something bad possibly, so he isn't likely to take that route. Besides, Bottom is a good pony, and he likes Bottom, he just isn't sure at all this was the right way to go, not just to please him. That feels like a terrible reason.
a vary interesting chapter, I am not sure but I feel a bit of a undertone or if you will a story going on behind things. all most as if Wajdi knows a hole bunch more then he is letting on to.
Wouldn't pony to pony be like saying human to human, shouldn't you use stallion to stallion to compare to man to man?
I hope Wajdi is leading Silver off to butter him up, then bend Silver over a desk somewhere and showing him why Bottom likes being on bottom.
6182528 Fixed, valid point.
6183362 Oh my...
Why do I get the feeling that the sultan is up to something and may be after silver? Tia make sure that silver is safe pls.
Interesting that the Sultan can see magic as well as Silver.
Keep going! ;)
The reaction was "near-immediate."
There are two spaces between "could" and "not."
6181955 To be fair, I'm also looking at it in a practical context. Bottom did what she wanted to do, and now it's done. For better or for worse, part of being independent includes making your own decisions, and dealing with the consequences, for good or for ill. Bottom is living her life, and deciding what is most important to her, on her own terms. Even if Silver thinks it's a mistake, he should still have some respect for that.

6185494 So Silver and Celestia meet the sultan of Saddle Arabia at last, and he's...a nice guy. A bit stereotypically boisterous and outgoing, but other than that he seems to be the sort of person that has things well in hand. Of course, there's always the possibility that he's got some sort of unsavory agenda, but at least insofar as this chapter is concerned, he honestly seems to be someone admirable, for a change.
My saying "for a change" isn't idle. With the exception of Cadance, all of the rulers we've seen to date have been ineffectual as rulers (e.g. Amenti and Twilight) or had an ideology that Silver clashed with, at least somewhat (e.g. Celestia and Luna). So far, Wajdi seems to be quite affable, if somewhat boisterous. Moreover, he's quite clearly personally accomplished, if what he says about how he was picked to be the next sultan is true. Moreover, he's already backed up that claim by showing that he not only has magic of his own, but can use it to see magic the way that humans do, as well as having the acumen to determine that something's up with Silver's own magic.
Simply put, Wajdi seems like the sort of big brother that Silver never had. Hopefully that holds true throughout, if for no other reason than Silver could use a mentor that isn't going to try and push him into things "for his own good" (though to be fair, it's been a while since the alicorn sisters did that). As it is, Celestia was right to say that Silver should compare notes with Wajdi, since Silver could certainly use help figuring out how to juggle a harem on his own, not to mention that the sultan's comment about "bat ponies" carried the subtle allusion that he also likes to dabble with ladies outside of his usual stable of concubines.
As it is, however, I really hope that this is just the first half of the story where the sultan is concerned, because this is a good opportunity to reintroduce the political dimension of this fic, something that has dropped off sharply over the last several chapters.
At this point, we know that Saddle Arabia and Equestria are allies, but we don't know why. I'm going to go ahead and presume that it has more basis than the respective populations simply being equine in nature, which leads us to wonder what exactly it is that they're allied about. Do they have mutual enemies that they're united against, and what tangible aspects does that alliance include? What are the economic ties, if any, between them, and how do the logistics of trade work? Are the economics about more than just trade, including foreign investments, government loans, and joint projects? What aspects of their relationship are they here to discuss now? What's at the top of the agenda, and what do they hope to accomplish? There are myriad angles to explore, so I hope the political dimension won't be nothing more than how Silver and Wajdi get along personally.
...even if it would be nice for the sultan to give Silver one of his concubines as a gift.
6185526 Wajdi is not playing all of his cards on the table, but I think he is a good person, with a firm grasp of his country, in the good way. There's much more to be done than a casual hello and goodbye, not to mention Bottom isn't likely to go ignored for the duration of their visit.
A new concubine? Silver is short on these? That would be an awkward moment indeed! Thanks for reading and reviewing, you help keep me focused in the madness. There's a lot to be learned on all sides, but the first thing was to see just how many of the rumors about Silver were true, and which were just rumors.
6185578 Oh, I have no doubt that Wajdi is holding something back; he's the ruler of a country, after all, and he'd be foolish to be completely open with a foreign ruler, no matter how closely they were allied. But that doesn't mean that he can't be benevolent, even aside from the fact that he seems more than wise enough to realize that it's better to be Equestria's friend than their enemy...and that it's even better to have Equestria want to be his friend.
I mentioned the idea of Wajdi giving Silver another concubine as a gift because it's one of those ways that marries politics to sex. A gift, especially a generous one, given from the ruler of a country that you want to maintain good relations with, isn't something that can be easily refused. So right away, there's now a political dimension - can Silver say no to Wajdi's gift without causing a political backlash, however mild? - as well as a sexual one (e.g. she's very skilled, and knows it).
Not to mention, coming from a "professional" harem, she might have skills that Silver would find valuable, such as how to keep the remaining girls in line! Imagine her taking charge (and yes, that's meant to be suggestive) the next time Bright Eyes starts to get out of line. Management and administration is just as important in a harem as it is anywhere else, and heavens know that Silver's love life could use some organization! She might even be able to come up with a better plan for studding than Luna has, since Luna really seems to be flying by the seat of her pants where that plan's concerned.
...sort of like a Night Watch for his sex life, now that I think about it.
