Time-honored trope. Something that a person can reasonably expect to happen. For example, m/m or f/f pairing being written by people who have no actual experience in the subject. Come to think of it, close 90% of m/m fanfiction is written by heterosexual females. Kinda like asking a fencing instructor to write plays for a football team.

This still doesn't explain the near nonexistent populace of gay males writing m/m fiction. It would be equal to an old basketball player writing tips on free throws, but the baseball fans are doing it instead. AND IT MAKES NO SENSE.
Example: It would be like Big Mac writing f/f slash fiction. Mac is not a girl, he doesn't have that sexual experience to work from. What is he doing? Or Trixie writing M/M slash fiction. Trixie isn't properly equipped for that. She doesn't have that sexual experience to use in writing. WHat is she doing?
