Accepting the hand of Fate

The next day, at CHS, everything seemed to be back to normal. However, Micro Chips was busy taking a peek, looking at something that caught his attention. He seemed to be staring out there for a while, until…

‘Micro Chips?’

He turned around and saw it was Sunset and the others.

‘Darling, what are you doing here?’ asked Rarity.

‘See for yourself.’ said Micro Chips.

All of them were taking a peek at what he was staring at. For right outside, was Principle Celestia, Vice-Principle Luna and what appeared to be a therapist, talking to both Handy and Wallflower. The both of them looking down, quite distraught and distressed. Both of them felt uncomfortable, but they could tell that they were trying to make up for what both of them did, especially Handy.

‘Who’s that with them?’ asked Applejack when she pointed at the therapist, seeing that she never saw her before.

‘That’s Psyche Analyst,’ said Micro Chips ‘She’s an old friend of Celestia’s family. She helped solve a problem between her and Luna a long time ago, so they asked her to come along to try and sort things out between Handy and Wallflower.’

‘Psyche Analyst?’ said Rainbow Dash, seeing that she never heard of her.

‘Duh,’ said Pinkie Pie as she said ‘Only one of Canterlot City’s most prestigious therapist of all time.’

‘Oh, I heard of her,’ said Fluttershy ‘She won a handful of awards for helping out the most troubled patients and clients with the most troubled trauma and past.’

‘Oh yeah,’ said Sunset as she remembered her ‘I remember her. I went to see her a while back.’

They looked at Sunset surprised whilst Rainbow said ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you went to see a therapist?’

Sunset was embarrassed to say anything, but quickly waved it off as she said ‘I went to see her after the Battle of the Bands,’ said Sunset ‘I had a hard time trying to move on from my past, so she told me that there is a way to get past it.’

‘Like what?’ asked Twilight ‘What did she say that helped you?’

‘She asked me if I had friends and I said yes.’ said Sunset ‘She told me that having friends and spending as much time with them as you could is the best medicine to treat my problems. I took that lesson to heart.’

She then looked down with a sad expression on her face as she said ‘Though I wished I paid more attention about the people around me. If I did, Wallflower wouldn’t have done what she did.’

Twilight placed her hand on Sunset’s shoulder, with her own sympathetic smile. ‘Sunset. Not everyone can be perfect. You taught me that a long time ago after I transferred here. You couldn’t have known. Like you said, you were focused on your friends and you tried to make up for your mistakes every day.’

‘I wonder,’ said Rainbow Dash as she looked at the siblings from afar ‘You said that Handy said that everyone, even us, were able to forgive you gave you another chance. I wonder why Wallflower couldn’t have done the same?’

‘I guess some things are just too hard to forgive.’ said Applejack.

‘But I didn’t even do anything to her,’ said Sunset as she looked at them ‘I didn’t even know or see her until I met her before your memories were erased.’

‘I think I know the feeling,’ said Fluttershy ‘When you were one the school bully she must’ve been so afraid of you she chose to be invisible because she didn’t want to get hurt. But after you changed, she waited the chance for you to notice her. But I guess she gave up after the Battle of the Bands.’

‘Still, I wish I could make up for what I did.’ said Sunset.

‘You already did,’ said Fluttershy as she spoke to her with her kind smile ‘You forgave her for what she did and helped her see things in a different light. You even became her friend and made sure everyone knew about her. Even though there were people that were cruel, everyone deserves a little kindness.’

Twilight then looked at Handy ‘But still, I wonder why he didn’t tell us about his dad that passed away.’

‘He didn’t want to talk about it.’ said Applejack whilst she looked down ‘Believe me, ah know that better than most. And having your memory erased of the one person who helped you and make friends being taken away. It was so precious to him he didn’t want to lose them. Ah would’ve been angry too if something like that ever happened to me.’

‘But there was also the fact what he said that took us all by surprise,’ said Rarity. She then looked at Sunset as she said ‘That he did all that for you.’

Rainbow couldn’t help but chuckle as she lightly elbowed Sunset ‘Guess you did more than just save and comfort him that day, huh?’

‘Rainbow Dash!!’ said Rarity, scolding her over Rainbow’s insensitive remark.

‘What? I’m just saying.’ said Rainbow whilst she tried to defend herself.

They then saw Celestia and Luna coming forward, whilst the therapist continued with both Handy and Wallflower. The eight of them stood normally near Celestia, wanting to know how they were doing.

‘How are they doing Principle Celestia and Vice-Principle Luna?’ asked Micro Chips.

‘Their problems are…’ said Celestia as she almost trailed off, but kept her focus as she continued. ‘Are not something that can fix with just a few words.’

‘It turned out that Handy’s problems and the things he went through damaged his psyche.’ said Vice-Principle Luna ‘He was distraught after the passing of his father. But the damage of his memories being taken away had an even deeper effect on him.’

‘So they won’t get any better?’ asked Applejack.

‘Psyche Analyst said that they need to come over to her every week to help them with their situation.’ said Principle Celestia ‘But she estimates that with them in her care, they’ll be able to get past their differences and grievances within the week.’

‘Oh, I just hope that they will be able to forgive each other.’ said Fluttershy as she was somewhat worried.

‘I hope so too.’ said Rarity ‘The two dears have been through enough already.’

‘I’m sure they will.’ said Vice-Principle Luna as she reassured them.

One week later

At Canterlot City Park, Handy was sitting on a bench, watching the ducks quack and go by in the middle of the lake. His thoughts clearly on something else. He felt a presence coming towards him. He looked to his right and saw Sunset coming. She soon sat next to him whilst they looked out at the lake together.

‘Hey.’ said Sunset as she partially looked at him.

‘Hey.’ said Handy, barely looking at her.

‘So uh…how are things going with your family?’ asked Sunset ‘Any progress?’

‘Some of it.’ said Handy as he kept looking at the area in front of him. ‘We’re still talking, but the pain is still kind of there. We’ll need to go through a couple of more sessions, but we’ll get over it in time. Plus our mother is being released from the mental hospital.’

‘Really?’ said Sunset as she looked at Handy surprised.

‘Yeah, she made a full recovery after two years.’ said Handy ‘Apparently losing the love of her life like that because of their argument, not to mention when she suddenly blamed herself for something that was beyond her control. It took a huge toll on her.’

‘I can imagine.’ said Sunset whilst she looked down ‘I haven’t seen my mother in years ever since I left Equestria and came here.’

‘And you found a home after that?’ asked Handy.

‘Huh?’ asked Sunset as she looked at him.

‘Think about it,’ said Handy ‘Do you feel like you belong in this world and don’t feel like an outsider here, or back home?’

She didn’t know how to respond. She thought about it for a moment, then was able to speak the moment she figured it out.

‘Well,’ said Sunset when she came up with her answer ‘Truth be told I don’t know. When I first came here, I became a bully because I wanted everything. I ruled the school, even turned into a literal demon monster and wanted to control the students to have an army to take over Equestria when I stole Princess Twilight’s crown.’

She looked down for a bit ‘But after the whole ordeal, I regretted for what I did. Princess Twilight convinced them to give me another chance. They helped me every step of the way, I even helped gain their trust and they trusted me. I was happy to have friends, but I was scared to lose them, and nobody else wanted to give me another chance despite me trying to make up for it.’

She then looked up with a smile on her face ‘I was so happy that I was accepted by everybody at the school. They all forgave me, and I even tried to spend as much time as I could with my friends, to make it memorable, even when Twilight transferred from Crystal Prep to Canterlot High.’

She then crossed her arms as she looked ahead ‘But I never thought about it that far. At first, I did think about going back to Equestria after I graduated, to be back home and spend some time with my former teacher, even Princess Twilight.’

She then frowned and looked away ‘But on the other hand, I don’t want to leave my friends. I know that all of them have lives of their own and they have their own future planned, but I couldn’t bear to go one minute without feeling alone again. That I want to stay in this world, find a job and try to spend as much time as I can with my friends.’

‘Well they say that home is where the heart is,’ said Handy ‘But the ones that truly help make you feel home are the people you spend your time with.’

‘I suppose so.’ said Sunset with a somber smile. ‘It’s just that after the others became my friends, I made a promise to myself that I would protect them no matter what.’

‘You should tell them how you really feel.’ said Handy. ‘They’ll never know how much you really mean to them if you don’t be more honest with them, I mean it is what Applejack taught you after all.’

‘I…I don’t know.’ said Sunset, whilst she felt nervous at the same time. ‘Maybe someday.’

‘Just don’t wait too long.’ said Handy.

They were silent for a few moments as they stared out at the lake. Sunset then held Handy’s hand, making him look at her.

‘Did you…’ started Sunset as she stared at him ‘Did you really feel that way about me?’

Handy was silent for a moment, then looked at her and said ‘Yes.’

He looked at the lake as he said ‘Ever since you saved me that day, all I ever wanted was to thank you for what you did for me. I didn’t know how to say it at first. But every time whenever I’m around you, or whenever I look at you. I feel a part of me that’s healed. Fixed even. That you’re the reason I keep going when I lost faith in myself.’

He then looked at her again ‘I did all those things for you because I wanted to help you. Because you helped me. The very person, whenever I see the sunset, I think of the most warm, radiant and beautiful person who did more than just heal my soul. You healed my heart. And I learned to love again.’

Sunset couldn’t help but blush at that remark. She then kissed him on the cheek, which surprised Handy as he blushed, for it felt enjoyable.

‘Thank you.’ said Sunset as a smile formed on her face.

They were silent for a few moments, as Handy said ‘Do you think…we can give us a chance?’

Sunset thought about it, then looked at Handy as she said ‘Keep working on trying to make things right with Wallflower. And after that, we can try.’

‘That’s all I ever wanted.’ said Handy.

The two of them continued to hold each other’s hands as they stared out at the lake, enjoying the rest of the day before they had to go back.

And there you have it, though you have the right reason, we will hurt someone in the end. All we can do, is try to make things right, and in the end, it'll be worth it.

Wait, so the therapist knows about the memory stone?

If there's one thing therapy taught me, is that they can read you like an open book. Trust me on that.

10521777
So, she read them so well to the point she was able to piece together that there was a memory stone?

10521785
And also promises to never reveal sensitive information. It's how good they really are at their job.

10521809
So, she also knows there’s magic?

10521830
Like I said, secret. 😉. How else could you explain that principle Celestia knew that twilight wasn't from around there, even sunset. But then again, my imagination can sometimes be a curse. Anyone can write about alternative stories, like the equestria girls comic Christmas special when everyone though sunset was anon-a-miss

Damn, the adults in EQG must be on some big brain type sh*t.

Postwarmonkey50 I love your Story A Guiding Hand. It strikes me right in my heart cause I am dealing with something like what Wallflower and her Brother are dealing with, But for me it is with my Aunt, After my Uncle Died in 2011 my aunt started treating me and my little Sister like Trash and I couldn't deal with it anymore so I left her home in 2013 and ended up in a halfway House for 3 years then in a homeless shelter till 2016 then found my Uncle from my Dad's side of my family tree and Have been living with him from 2016 to now and I have not forgiven my aunt and I probably never will, but anyway Your story is really great
