Well that was a somewhat hectic chapter.
So you're basically saying that Twilight's magic no longer works properly. Is this permanent? I sincerely hope it's not permanent, because it severely cripples Twilight and makes the Flood a little overpowered. I mean, they absorb her magic already, becoming significantly stronger when they do so, but straight controlling her magic - or just influencing it as if she's infected is a bit much.
I mean, it basically implies that whenever Twilight teleports, the Flood can decide to teleport her into a mass of Flood to be further drained. Or if she fires a beam of magic can influence the beam to hit allies. Or if she casts a spell, they can influence it to target allies if harmful or the flood if beneficial. It's overpowered.
It doesn't really make sense either. From what was said there was a proto-hivemind connection. Fair. But then it was said that Chief "overrode" that connection. So the only reason Twilight's magic should still be influenced is if there's a flood mass or something on her body somewhere. But there isn't? Unless there is, in which case I hope it can be removed.

Basically what I am planning is that Twilight's magic will be fine as long as there are no flood in a general vicinity. Since the Truth and Reconciliation still has a huge flood contingent, then her magic will not work the way she would like. For the times that she encounters the Covenant alone, then she'll be fine.
Besides, overrode doesn't mean completely sever, which will come in later
What a way to start the new year!
Great chapter mate, poor Keyes his death was always a horrible one. What was chief and twilight's intention sparing that squad I'm curious to know why they spared them. I'm also really interested to see how this goes with twilight and chief mentally linked.
I'm really enjoying the little changes and different things that twilight makes and effects what's going on and she doesn't feel like a second player that only helps you play through the levels, Instead she's part of the world around her and makes a difference In some cases.
Really enjoying it and I can't wait for the next chapter.

It's probably going to have something to do with the Arbiter since he was in charge of those elites.
so what happened to the Shade turret?
You should use "domino effect" here.
Butterfly effect is a term for small actions causing, in the end, a major change. Think "what ifs" and "alternate timelines".
Domino effect is for one event causing another event to happen, causing even more, but in a more immediate and local manner. Imagine a line of dominos falling.
This is on the edge of bad territory, Twilight. It's the bucking Flood, so you're still clear moral-wise, but promise me – promise – that you won't fall down the slippery slope of unbridled hate.
You're too good to lose to callousness...
Oh no...
Magic is one of Twilight's greatest prides and possessions.
... To have the Flood take that away from her in yet another such violation of her dignity...
I can't stand it.

I agree with you here. I definitely hope it isn't permanent as well, and the Flood being able to control/influence Twilight's magic is – as you said – too much and doesn't make much sense.
Just how is it happening in the first place (in detail)?
10023764
Well that’s a spoiler.
But regardless I feel as though it’s a bit much on top of what the Flood can already do with her magic. I mean, she holds her weapons with her magic. If in the vicinity of the flood her magic doesn’t work right then suddenly she can’t reliably hold or aim weapons and becomes a liability in a fight with them around.
You get what I mean? I mean, them absorbing the magic when it gets close to them is OK, because it makes sense, but just being around them causing her magic to cut strangely doesn’t. I mean if it was weaker, sure, but not this.
10024301
You have a very good point, which I do agree somewhat. I think that I'll limit what the flood can influence in the next chapter, though it will come about by something Twilight does, so she overcomes this problem somewhat. Hope you'll like my solution.
10024235
Corrected now. Thank you for that
10024238
It shall be explained later, involving something that I shall not say...for now, but I understand your concern
10024219
First encounter, the gunner was thrown off. Second encounter, the turret itself was thrown off the platform, so what happened is up to your interpretation, if you want
10024373
I just don’t want the enemies to become too powerful with little to no explanation as to how.
Twilight’s skills rely almost entirely on her magic. While limiting that is a great way to limit her potential and force her to act differently, too much of it limits her too much to the point she ends up being a damsel in distress in every fight - constantly struggling.
I liked the idea that the flood could absorb her magic. I found it odd, but I liked it. The perversion of that magic as she was drained and her emotional state as it seemingly betrayed her horrified me. But in a good way. But I felt like that was enough. The Flood being able to resist and outright absorb her magic already makes them a big counter to her, forcing her to think outside the box as she can’t just fire blasts at them like she can with the Covenant. But too much of that and as I’ve previously said, she no longer can fight, no longer can hold her weapons and use what limited abilities she has.
So sure, I’ll see where your idea goes with limiting the Flood’s influence, but I’m hoping there’ll be an explanation as to how they’re doing it. For example a flood form acting as a magic relay that causes her teleportation spells to be redirected towards it within a certain radius, or something.
10024380
I was thinking the same thing in regards to having a flood form being a magic relay (I already have the perfect candidate) but also thinking of expanding that in other areas as well. Glad you're enjoying the basic idea. Thank you for all your comments and ideas. They're really helpful.
10024382
No problem. Criticism is what I do, even if I may seem harsh at times or if people don’t appreciate it. All to help writers improve :3
10024373
how. we just hear it shoot at John then Twilight seeing him shot
10024588
Keep reading and you'll find out exactly why she needs them.
A mental link between Chief and Twilight, now that is interesting.
10024548
here it is
10025124
Ah
10025113
I was an idea from dalek that I helped with
An AWESOME chapter dude! 👍
Reminiscent of the Mandalorian, when the Mandalorian and IG-11 are wondering how they'll get through a door, before, as one, turning towards their E-WEB Gatling gun.
TWILIGHT AND CHIEF ARE CONNECTED!!!!! You guys are awesome!!
why must you rekindle the fear i felt when i first encountered the flood? why?!
well done, you have brought back the terror they inspired when you first encountered them ( at least for me).
Very nicely done!
Can the Flood naturally merge bodies together to create Abominations, or is that just something in your story?
10043813
Well they normally do that to create graveminds, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that was a thing in lore.
10043919 Okay. I just want to make sure, because I am currently working on my own story that involves the Flood, and I have a similiar idea to what is seen here in this story, but the Flood in my story are just normal Flood, so whatever Dalek117 is planning to do with the Flood is unrelated to what I am doing with them. I am a die-hard Halo fan, maybe of a casual one, but I do know quite a bit about the Flood, though, not enough to know if this merging-to-create-larger-Flood-forms is an ability they naturally have and we just haven't seen it in any games, comics or novels (btw, I haven't read any of the novels), so I can hope you (or anyone reading this really) can understand why i'm confused and feel the need to ask about it.
10044514
If you really want to know more about the flood look up hiddenxperia on YouTube he should have a playlist dedicated to flood lore.
10045516 I know. He does a lot of great Halo lore videos, and just taking about Halo in general. I love his content
Nice update
Can't wait to see how Twilight will react to chiefs face. If he takes his helmet off on the Long Sword.
been awhile since the last update. they used to come weekly. what happened? is everything ok?
10101796
Slowly working on it. Everything's fine on my end. Don't worry, it'll come out when its ready
10102268
👍
That Cover art is awesome!
I have a feeling that somehow twilight is going to end up getting magic from the floods mainly so Spark said that twilight was a great alternative to contain the flood
LOVE the new cover art!
The new coverart made me smile. Fun chapter (you know, as fun as death of beloved characters can be).
Funny how the worlds they “liberate” don’t get a say and nay-sayers get shot. It’s amusing to me that rebel or independent worlds in the 343i books are similar to an extra paranoid USSR. Prior to leaving the UEG or being conquered, the UEG did not enforce laws on the Outer Colonies. Heck, the people there weren’t even forced to pay taxes. All because they lacked proper representation in the UEG Senate and so could not be forced to follow UEG law. There was an outer colony senate the UEG made for them to rule themselves, though.
So, in a beautiful irony, the worlds that hated the UEG and left ended up as oppressed military dictatorships. Exactly what they claimed the UNSC was except the UNSC and UEG did not oppress them or force them to do anything. They’re now enjoying actual oppression...and of course they blame the UNSC for it.
When Halo 2 comes, i would like to see the Arbiter meet Twilight Sparkle and then remember her (because of the elites who contacted him and told him information about her) for saving his squad back on the first Halo ring.
10077832
Or better still, her reaction to Chief's new Mark VI armor in Halo 2.
Chief reads Twilight's mind. Nice.

The issues is centralized government doesn't work
