Holy Shit Yes! Dropping everything and reading! Been waiting for this!
I hope the time gap for the next chapter won't be six months this time.
BUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW BUCKING CHAPTER!!!!!!!! HUZZAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need more from echo and company
No... no... there is not enough ritalin in the WORLD to handle two draconequui...
Huh and TV Tropes said you ended up not doing chess game of the gods. Or is this all according to plan?
So is the Grey still going to show up somewhere?
Nice to see Season 3 incorporated into the Legend, and can't wait for Echo to meet Twilicorn.
Dear god in heaven...Discord is just soooo damn funny!
CHAPTER UPDATE
HHmm, so this could mean that either Echo is going to become some sort of chaos god, or he might possibly have to leave Equestria forever!
I'm sorry, but the part where they were all laying out their weapons to swear allegiance...
All I could think of was that scene from LotR.
2463948 C: .... *turns the mane six into draconqui* :D
2463925
Try one week on for size. Next chapter is already done.
2463962
I'm not. Disarray, however, does whatever the fuck he wants.
2463968
Our mutual friend will be making her appearance in the third chapter of Act II.
Was wanting this to update. Seemed a bit short though, may be just me though. Can't wait to get back to Echo. Please don't have him be locked up in the Fount for all of eternity... that would fucking suck =/
Does that mean Echo is going to be the new God of Chaos?
Awesome chapter, but I'm still unsure about if those who attune to the Fount become Gods, or just gain great power.
Also, still confused as to why Lyra day-dreamt about being a six-limbed Diamond Dog, but I'm guessing that'll be explained later.
I hate you. Why? It's four in the morning and I have to get up early to babysit a couple of young toddlers, and you went and updated this.
Joking aside, I'm glad to see this continue.
M-MUH DICK
HOLY UPDATES, BATMAN.
My, I love how you've worked the events of Season 3 in here. That was certainly a surprise. I didn't expect Discord and Disarray to see each other face to face again.
And so, the plot thickens...
“Yes. But the natural order of things has been disrupted.” Celestia took another sip of her tea. “As much as it pains me to admit, there must always be some level of evil in the world.
Horse shit.
Yup, this story goes OFF my watch list and fave list and right in the trashcan. Why? Because I expect you to not change a thing, no matter what is said.... because I don't expect you, for even an instant, to listen.
"It is true that Dualism has a certain theological attraction; it seems to make the problem of evil easier.... there are better answers to the problem of evil." C.S. Lewis.
Nothing gives me the dry heaves quite like Dualism-- the philosophy of thoughtless fools, the lazy and easy-path thinker. Dualism was objectively dismantled by far better spoken thinkers than myself, but I will propose to reassert the basics here.
1) The first and most important: Dualism presupposes that good and evil are equal and opposite forces. They are demonstrably not. If they were, then both Good and Evil would be equally effective. They would merely be an arbitrary choice, two viable alternatives. But as has been observed from the beginning--- Evil fails where Good succeeds. Kindness works where cruelty does not. Honesty succeeds, deceit fails. A society--- or a universe--- built upon honor, compassion, truthfulness, and virtue will thrive; one built on cruelty, lies, theft, and betrayal will inevitably implode. A universe built on half of each would tear itself apart.
2)The more troublesome one that sends Dualism to devouring its own tail: If Good and Evil are equal yet opposite forces, that merely moves the question of an ultimate highest Good and ultimate Authority up one level. A vessel cannot contain itself; there must be a higher standard against which both dualistic forces are measured. It merely moves the question, and the problem, of evil to a larger arena: worse, implies that this ultimate standard, this highest Good, is the worst sort of Supreme Power, one straight out of some bitter atheist's vitriolic ravings-- a mad god who dispenses both good and evil, spewing forth both from the same mouth, upon a universe helpless to escape.... making Evil, in the end, the final essence of existence. No God or Force or Power who did such a thing could be called good, anymore than a man who dispensed blessings and beatings upon the same child randomly could be called a good father. For any Power to use both good and evil as equal forces in the makeup of his universe is like a mechanic pouring both oil and sand into the engine of his car.... the act of an idiot or a madman.
3)But that brings us back to the first point. Good works; Evil doesn't. Good is functional, therefore sane. Evil is DYSfunctional, therefore INsane-- not an equal alternative, but a deviation from the clarity and function of Good.
Dark is not the opposite of Light, it is a place where the light is not shining. Good can exist without Evil; the light does not need to cast a shadow to illuminate.
Proposing the universe "needs" evil to exist is... obscene.
>>>“As much as it pains me to admit, there must always be some level of evil in the world. The gains of harmony, love, and light must be tempered by chaos, hate, and darkness. Our intent is to regain this critical balance by attuning new sources of such magics to the Fount, preventing a magical cataclysm. >>>
Oh no, not the 'balance of the universe' again. I hate that trope more than any other. It always feels so horribly forced.
The story is likely to lose me due to it.
That's because Echo is an Awesome character. I am actually pretty sad he and Daring may get split up in the end.
The Rust is back in action. I need to hurry the buck up on my projects to get in the chessverse before it is too late.
2464033
that is... satisfactory.
2464034
Yeah what he said
2464227
Shut the fuck up that was the biggest comment I've ever seen and it scared the shit outa me
2464227 I see what your saying. I don't think he means there has to be an EQUAL amount of good and evil, but that one can't just smother the other. Think of it like balancing scales, one side can be slightly/a lot higher, and the scale still stands. BUT if you put an elephant and a feather on, the scale won't shift, it will flip. Hes not saying they must be equal, you just can't have one make the other nigh nonexistent. Hopefully that helps you understand what hes saying. (at least that's what it seems like to me.)
Talk about a bombshell.
A nod towards one of the greats, I presume?
THE BANHAMMER! ALMIGHTY WEAPON OF DOOM!!!!
YEEESSSSS.
Isn't this like...The most popular OC based MLP FIM fanfic ever?
I think the idea of Dualism stems from the inevitability of social ills. No matter how perfect or exemplary a society may be, there will always be thugs hiding in dark alleys and murderers on the prowl.
The problem is that inevitability does not equal necessity. Just because there will always be criminals doesn't mean we shouldn't lock them up, yet according to Dualism, they are performing a "vital" function by maintaining "the balance."
Is it necessary for someone to break into your house and steal your stuff because you are a "good" person? According to Dualism, yes. Would a society, or in this case, an entire world that followed this belief system be very successful? Probably not.
Please understand that this is criticism, not hate. You're a great author, it's just that this theology is incredibly flawed. (For reasons that 2464227 has explained far better than I could.)

This is where things REALLY start getting good.
Yay! moar Echo, less celestia!
So, they're going to fill Echo with crazy magic then send him home? I find it unlikely he'll be okay with that. Married and all.
And my spear!... Or not
Ah, it's good to see this back.
... I'm surprised there weren't more explosions, between Disarray and Discord. Bad blood still runs deep, it seems.
And Lyra's caught in the middle. Hoo boy.
2464580 I don't think Rust is going for Dualism, or not in the way you're thinking of it anyway.
I think the idea is more "It is a bad idea to have one without the other because, if you do that, then shit literally starts to explode."
Think of Good and Evil as one of two warring kingdoms. While either of these kingdoms has its own inner struggles, they are kept in check as Good Kingdom is united by the common enemy of the Evil Kingdom and vice verse. If one kingdom was to be destroyed, the victor would turn in upon itself and begin to self destruct, as the internal factions are no longer united against a common enemy.
The problem is that, in Equestria, we aren't dealing with kingdoms. We're dealing with volatile magical energy which has a habit of blowing the hell up when you make it angry, so the problem is much more immediate.
Or you could look at it like the relationship between hot and cold. In this case, good is heat and evil is cold. Due to the law of Conservation of Energy, there can only be so much heat in the universe, as the amount of energy in the universe never changes. If you to somehow add more heat to the universe from no apparent source (meaning without transforming any non-thermal energy into thermal energy) where the hot things were staying hot but the cold things were warming up, then you would be breaking the laws of physics. I shouldn't need to explain why that is a terrible thing.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
It should be noted that throughout this chapter, Celestia and Co. are referring to forms of power. They are not referring to how the world itself behaves. This is why they (supposedly) are able to bind forms of 'Evil' magic to the font without disrupting the harmony of their world.
We also don't even know how valid this line of thinking from Celestia is yet. Rust might throw us a curveball and have Celestia be completely wrong or something. I feel it's worth sticking around to find out.
Of course, this is all conjecture on my part, so please take it with a grain of salt.
I half expected you to carry over the Reaper from Dead or Alive because beam Scythes are the shit! Gundam Wing proved that to be fact.
2463968
Oh yeah i wonder how thats going to go over?
and who's the Grey? Was he mentioned earlier?
2464227
Dude? Seriously? What the fuck ever? First off this is a world based off of magic! It can work any way you want it to as long as you put solid enough backing to it. Secondly evil has always been fucking necessary. Without evil, good would not exist. Every coin has two sides and for one side to exist the other must be there as well. Evil is not functional your right about that but it must always exist. A Utopian society is not functional either trying to create one will cause more harm than good as nature just does not work like that. Without a driving force such as strife grief pain suffering or the like to move societies forward than they will just collapse on themselves. Evil inspires good! I had more points to give but my ADD has muddled them up and i can't get them into a solid thought right now
2464516
Fallout: Equestria.
2464516 I don't think it's passed by Fallout: Equestria, Fallout: Equestria Project Horizons, or Past Sins yet, but it certainly is up there with the power players right about now.
I would also mention 'My Little Dashie', but I doubt that there's a single person in the fanfic community who hasn't heard of that, so I don't think it qualifies for a reliable benchmark.
I found the first part rather dull, since I wanted to see how the issue with Echo turns out, so I skipped down to the latter part. I rather liked it, but I still want to head back to the scene we left.
...and I really don't want to have to wait a few months.
2464227
I really enjoy your stories... but seriously, fuck off with that kind of rude comment.
It's a fictional universe, running off fictional rules that the author has created. This particular one apparently requires certain individuals to act as representatives for the various magical energies. Unless there are Gods that represent the magics based on 'evil', the magic explodes. It's made for entertainment, not a philosophical essay on the nature of morality.
I know you tend to have trouble differentiating the two, and are known for ramming your opinion down peoples throat, whatever. You wanna say your piece, fine. Do it.
But for fucks sake, learn to be polite about it.
Is Lyra a warg?
Sewn by pixies.
2464227
Yeah, see, it's not right, and that's kind of the point...
You've hit the nail on the head, really. This entire ordeal is Celestia doing what she does best; making things fit together. But... sometimes that's impossible.
Admari knows what's up.
Banhammer. Can you never post again if you get hit by it?
WOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH BEST THING TO WAKE UP TOO EVER!!!
chapter update. cool
heh, national weed day. and Hitler's birthday.
Oh great, Lyra is actually a cat thing. I don't know why everyone's thinking she's a Daimond Dog, it says at the end that 'cat people are crazy'...care to share what she is? At least in PMs?
