The Great & Powerful... & Horrible!!! - dragonpony111

Dinky wants nothing more than her mother to come back. Even though that's what she fears the most. She may be great and powerful, but he certainly isn't a mother by any standard.

Thrown Away

It was the last news she wanted to her. The doctors told her since her foal was born so premature that she would always be on the smaller side, and that her stunted horn might never produce magic. For a self absorbed pony who regarded her own magical abilities so highly; this foal would be a mark of shame on her career. Despite the protests of all the hospital staff she left that same day after only giving birth a few hours ago. Even though she could have left that poor filly at the hospital up for adoption. To avoid ponies finding out what she gave birth to this mare whose heart was black as coal took the filly with her as she started to brainstorm her dark deed. Once outside the chilly air of the night caused great discomfort to the little foal. She started to cry which only upset her scorned mother even more; her only response was to yell insults at the tiny filly for being so weak. Refusing to hold her she carried her newborn using magic. The tight slightly warm grip the magic had provided some comfort to the poor little being, and it was the closest thing resembling her mother's touch she would ever get to feel; not that the real thing was any better.

For now the moonlit sky on the way back to her mother's travelling trailer was the brightest sight the foal would get to see for the next few days save a for a few bursts of blinding light. With the rest of her time spent in cold lonely darkness. Upon arriving at the trailer the little filly was thrown without regard for safety onto a raggedy old pillow bruising her front right knee in the process, and her mother then bellowed at her:

"Now go to sleep you little runt! I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow as I decide what to do with you."

After being roughly tossed, injured, cold, and yelled at all that mistreated foal could do was cry and whine. To get some peace and quiet for herself The Great & Horrible Mother casted a silencing spell on her daughter reducing the volume of her cries to a soft whisper at best. She then blew out the few candles in the trailer and went to sleep. The little foal just sat there as she silently cried. She squirmed around quite a bit on the uncomfortable lumpy pillow, and latched on to a nearby spellbook just to have something to hold. Soon however a rumbling pain started in her stomach from hunger; a pain that would not soon or perhaps ever go away. The next morning she was abruptly awakened by more of her mother's yelling:

"Get your dirty little hooves off of my spellbook you little brat! You will never be worthy of holding such a great and powerful item!"

As she snatched the book away from her daughter who was way too tiny and weak to put up any resistance. The little foal let out a labored yelp (it seems as if the silencing spell wore off over the night) and just looked up at her with tiny golden eyes filled with fear and confusion. Suddenly the sharp hunger pains came back, and the starving little filly's stomach grumbled loudly. Upon hearing the grumbles and watching the tiny pony rub her sunken in stomach she lamentedt:

"I guess for now I have to feed you don't I? I'll let you have those terrible daffodils from the gift basket the last town gave me. I can't stand to eat those wretched things"

Using her magic the The Great & Horrible Mother tossed a few old and stale daffodils at the little filly's face. This would be her first ever meal and not having any food before she didn't quite know what to do right away, but after she sniffed them instincts took over and tried to chew them with her gums. It takes great effort and some time but eventually the foal is able to chew them into small enough pieces to choke down as she coughed in the process. As her mother went out for the day the filly was blinded by the bright sunlight as the door to the trailer was open momentarily before being slammed shut. For her entire first week alive all the filly could do was sit alone in the cold darkness hungry and frightened. She waited eagerly for her mother's return each night hoping that THIS time she would treat her better, but her hopes were always dashed.

The Great & Horrible Mother's travelling act finally led her to Manehattan a city large enough to commit her evil act, and be rid of her "little problem" with nopony being none the wiser. For reasons unknown to that precious little baby pony her whole life was about to take an even darker turn. Her mother seemed happier today for some reason, and didn't yell at or threaten her at all. Maybe the hopes and dreams of the distraught filly were finally coming true; at least that is what she was thinking inside her scared little mind, but it couldn't be farther from the actual truth. Other than the change in her mother's attitude the day was like any other; sitting alone in the dark and cold trailer with a hungry stomach while waiting for her mother's return. The hunger pains always made that seem like an eternity though. After finally returning back from her day of tricking ponies into paying her bits The Great & Horrible Mother dressed in a trenchcoat and glasses leaned down and then said to her daughter in a surprisingly sweet (yet sinisterish) tone of voice:

"Come now little one. It is time and this will all be over for the both of us soon enough. Such a shame you can't grow up to be great and powerful like your mother."

The filly looked puzzled however. She recognized it was her mother who came back in and was talking to her, but the nice sounding voice and the different outfit (the foal was accustomed to The Great & Horrible Mother's star speckled pointy hat and cape) threw off her usual expectations of how these daily reunions went. The foal was then levitated up by the warm grip of her mother's magic again; a warmth the little filly cherished as it was the only warm feeling she ever received from her sorry excuse of a mother. Another spell was then casted that made the tiny one drift off into a deep slumber as this would make smuggling her away much easier. Upon waking up the little filly was eye level with her mother and looking directly at her. She couldn't see much else in the dark alleyway as the sun had almost finished setting. In that same surprisingly sweet tone The Great & Horrible Mother said:

"Wow you really are such a DINKY little one. I'm so glad this will all be over now. I don't think you could ever understand this but this really is the best for the both of us."

At the end of the sentence the little one could feel the warm grip of her mother's magic disappear and she fell down into the dumpster she was being held over. Upon crashing down on the trash which left her with some cuts and bruises she could hear her uncaring mother's last words to her:

"Finally! Now there is nothing stopping me from being THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TR..."

The abandoned foal was finally just about to hear her mother's name right before the lid of the dumpster slammed shut. Yet again left alone in the cold darkness hungry and afraid. She wanted nothing more than her mother to return again even though she feared her return just as much. It was cold and damp, and the warmth from her mother's magic was now a distant memory. The frightened pony grabbed the nearest item she could find; a cold metal can that made what little warmth she had fade even faster, and she held onto it for dear life. The pony then began to wheeze out her first word:

"Ma...ma Mama"

It was a weakened and labored sound, and her lungs and throat hurt just producing it, but it was her last hope at maybe her mother returning or anything else happening to save her from all this darkness. After what seemed like several eternities waiting in a cold, damp, hungry, painful, fearful, almost lifeless state the lid was thrown open and the filly's eyes were totally blinded by the sudden burst of bright and warming sunlight.

Author's Note:

Yes this is me coming out of hiatus on my writing. I will finally be writing some one shots here and there as I continue writing my other 3 ongoing stories. As always I greatly appreciate your feedback, opinions, and proofreading!!!

I know dark stories like this aren't really my usual writing style as mine are more usually sad/tragic but I just wanted to write a quick little one shot about this comic for the longest time. So many stories on here about what happens to dinky after derpy finds her, so I wrote a before story leading up to her placement in that dumpster.

This story has a tough row to hoe, focusing on darker-than-dark subject matter and portraying a fan-favorite character in the most negative light possible. But it did a good job of building sympathy for Dinky and antipathy toward Trixie. Poor little Dinky. :fluttershysad: Horrid, awful Trixie. :flutterrage: I'd like to know more about why Trixie is so much more awful here than we see in the show; alternate interpretations can be good, but I just want to see more depth underpinning her decisions.

There were some mechanical issues that I felt kind of disrupted the flow. The statements you put in parentheses definitely did this, though they also added to your explanations of what was going on. The opening paragraph was also very, very dense; it might've helped pull more people in if Trixie's decision-making process could have been part of a dialogue with one or more nurses in the hospital, rather than simply being told to us.

Probably my favorite part in here was the action and description that you used to establish the inside of Trixie's trailer. It feels like a cold and lonely living-hell.

You mentioned that the art is a panel from a comic. Could you link to it?

You also said something in the author's note at the end about there being other stories showing Derpy finding Dinky in the dumpster. I haven't been around as long as some in the fandom, but I haven't personally seen any stories like that. Could you add a link to your favorite? That would help make this more of an unofficial prequel for that story. As it is right now, it feels like the beginning of something that ends right as it's about to start getting really interesting.

6674048 Thanks for your feedback. I added the link to the comic strip and this is my favorite story of dinky being found by derpy in the dumpster.

Trixie did what to Dinky...?

This begs for a sequel where Dinky is discovered and suitable punishment handed out - something along the lines of being covered in woodchips and shoved in the forest for the Timberwolves
