Wait. isn't Rarity probably a young adult, and Corey is thirteen??? Just sayin. this is turning into how Spike, who's is a kid, likes Rarity, but now Rarity likes the pony younger than her
6908302 Okay, so we actually have a good answer for this question:
In this universe, humans and ponies age differently - around age twelve or thirteen, the ponies reach adulthood, and the Mane Six's ages range from twelve to fourteen. Because Corey and the band are all about thirteen, they appear as pony "adults", and so the impression Rarity gets is that they're mature (of course, they're not, but she's easily blinded by her infatuation, as you may remember from her " love" for Trenderhoof).
If you're looking for proof of the age thing in-story, check Chapter Nine. It's pretty subtle - I guess you're right that we could have made it more clear - but it's there:

I'm going to try to get at least one more chapter up soon - school and extracurriculars have been so busy for me that I haven't been able to work on much of anything, but I will do my best!
