This story had an interesting structure, and it could have been an amusing little vignette. I felt it was a bit too scattered, and needed better editing, but you've got good ideas – just, work on your execution, yeah?
Incidentally, ovens and showers are older than you think. Ovens go all the way back to certain prehistorical civilizations; clay constructions with wood burning in them, typically. Showers go way back, too. Go figure!
