Ssssssh!
And lives are getting back on track. Now the story feels like it is resolving some sideplots for a bit and gaining a focus again. Jeez the world building has grown!
This was a good way to give the cakes a little closure and a kinder way for them to settle to the background again.
Still as one plotline resolves we get hints of the next!
Great work! And we will be waiting for the next chapter with patience and humility.
Glad the two elements be dealt with hrashly for their actions. Now as i see the elements two of them mose any freedom they had, one maybe permeantly the other not sure.

As I have said earlier, things are coming to a head, a lot of the threads will twist together to make a less confusing story as a lot of little issues and sub-plots get revealed to be the side-effects of larger plots, or the tip of the narrative iceberg.
And yes, the Cakes are going to fade a bit into the background, but I like them, so they'll probably crop up every now and again. That said, I've been told if I don't bring Scout and Dappled Light right the buck now, somebody is going to hold their breath until I do.
Please, don't make me a murderer. YOU'VE SEEN HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO UPDATE THIS THING!
Also, don't wait with humility and patience, wait there with loud yelling and the throwing of heavy objects of furniture. It motivates me.

Exactly how the Elements play out, how it interacts with Twilight in her vulnerable state as an Ascending Alicorn and how that all plays out in the unstable stage of world politics when Equestria may or may not possess the all-powerful Elements of Harmony is going to be a trip in and of itself.
I'm hoping the Mother of Stones turns out to be Uluru. Because Uluru somehow wedging itself into Celestia's sitting-room in order to sip tea and eat delicious lamingtons is just too awesome a mental image.
eheheheh I can see earth mother start yelling so loud that pony in the crystal empire are able to hear with easy, to magic and generality.
I can see her look like earth mother form wow that float ever where

In regards to that, as I have mentioned several times in the comments, I had a real problem deciding which of the 'Mane 5' outside of Twilight 'falling' would have the most emotional impact without crippling the story. Rarity was that pony after a few days of going back and forth between lists of the pros and cons of each of the Bearers 'losing their way'.
Much like Sunset Shimmer, I quite like most of the character's aspects, and am keen to have a more positive role for them in my other stories.
So no, Rarity will not get 'dumped on' or pushed into the screamingly self-obsessed socialite corner. She's on a mission, and she's got an idea in her head that is very much not in-sync with reality, just like her obsession with Prince Blueblood was in the show. That doesn't mean she's going to go into a meltdown or become the dagger in Dusk's side, but it will be a very big moment of emotional growth and, well ...
A Tale of Dusk is basically the fight for equal rights between genders, flipped on it's head and some heavy anecdotal experiences with dealing with all three sides of the fight, the ones on top who don't want things to change so they can keep being abusive, the ones who are pushing for change out of a need for revenge and petty self-gratification, and the vast majority of folks who simply want the world to be better tomorrow than it is today and are caught between these two vicious camps who are more interested in spewing hate against anyone who doesn't believe and carry on exactly like they do than actually make positive change in their world and/or society. When I'm writing 'A Tale of Dusk', I am hoping people get angry, go 'That's not right!' and get their britches in a bunch.
And then I hope they go out and remember that outrage and when they see somebody getting profiled, or being treated as 'second rate', or being discriminated against because they're male, or female, or transitioning, or coloured, or religious or non-religious or any of the hundreds of boxes we like to put ourselves and other people into, to stand up and do something about it.
Don't turn your faces away. Don't say 'it's got nothing to do with me'. Don't encourage that sort of behaviour. Stand up for somebody else, and if you cannot or will not do it simply because it's the right thing to do, then do it because someday it might be your ass being discriminated against, and hopefully your example will cause somebody to stand up for you too.
...
And now I need to return this soap-box ...
