Then Celestia assigns a Diamond Dog guard to Harmony who just happens to be armed to the teeth with earth weaponry..... Everything goes bang-boom-pow, and they live happily ever after.
^^^ This is why I have trouble writing; Intro, char intro, vill. intro, vill. climax, vill. death, butterflies and rainbows in 400 words or less.

The Nightmare touched down softly at the abandoned castle in Everfree, makes her way through the crumbling halls to the dungeon and gently places Harmony on the stone altar before shifting from a incorporeal mist to a vaugely Alicorn form and lowering its horn to Harmony's chest.
"Now, the time has come to-" her translucent ear twitched as a metallic shlak-chak echoed through the large room, stunned she turned toward the sound. She blinked at the glow of an ember floating in the darkness along with a poorly defined blob, the shadows deep enough to obscure it from even her senses. A puff of smoke drifted slowly into the light streaming from a crack in the ceiling. Nightmare squinted as she focused on the ember as it flared, revealing a pair of eyes peering from under a beret and a Barret .50 cal held at waist height. There was a tense pause as another puff of smoke came to light.
"Bitches love cannons." a gravelly voice said and the room was filled with thunder as the Nightmare was ripped to shreds by the large rounds.
The door burst open as the big gun's thunder rolled away, revealing three Alicorns and a company of Royal Guards ready to do battle. They looked at the carnage that was the Nightmare, then at the red dragon that stepped from the shadows. He looked directly at Twilight, ignoring the others he nodded and backed away, fading back into the shadows and disappearing.
P.S. I comment like this because the story tugs at those Protect feels.

4432737 I'd be honored for it to become an Alt ending, but It really seems like an invitation to investigate, or attempt to anyway the dragon and his relation to Harmony. I like putting my own flair on a story, if you need any more 'alternate endings', feel free to call.
