The Inadequacy · 2:22am Mar 7th, 2016

Princess Cadance is nearly ready to deliver Princess Flurry Heart into the world, and Shining should be the happiest stallion in the world. After all, he's about to become a father—what stallion wouldn't rejoice at this fact?

And yet... something's eating away at him. Keeping him up nights. Driving him to speak with anypony that'll listen. An anxiety. A fear. A doubt.

New Story Incoming · 10:11pm Mar 2nd, 2016

Surprise, everyone!

I've been quiet this month because I was working on a new story: an entry for Scribblefest 2016. If you liked my early horror one-shots, then this one is definitely for you.

Weatherpony Writer's Notes · 12:34am Mar 21st, 2016

Hello. With there having been around two weeks since the Everfree Northwest Scribblefest began judging, I thought it'd be cool to spend a little bit of procrastination time to talk about how Weatherpony (my entry) got written. Quite a few changes got made throughout the story from its original form (for the better, in my opinion).

So, without any further ado, I guess I'm gonna talk about Weatherpony. The long version. Not the version I stuck in the author's notes in the story.

Horizon Reviews: Scribblefest 2016 entries · 11:18pm Mar 25th, 2016

Xepher tapped me to be one of the nine judges for Everfree Northwest's "Scribblefest" pre-convention writing competition, and I've spent the last two weeks reading through a chunk of the submissions. (You can find a listing of the entries here.) I thought I'd share my reviews of those stories here — they'll be a

New Story is out with Awesome Coverart! · 1:39am Mar 5th, 2016

Well, today I've just submitted my newest story, Weatherpony, which is incidentally a contest entry for the Everfree Northwest Scribblefest this year. It's about a weatherpony who has to save the city of Cloudsdale from rogue weather, but there's something very important that makes this particular weatherpony, named Windy, special.

Hap Recommends Scribblefest #7: Take With Food · 4:33pm Mar 14th, 2016

Like I mentioned in my last one of these, I've stopped reading through three at a time because I've been getting much busier, and will only be reading and giving my thoughts on stories that either get requested or recommended to me directly. So there's only going to be one story in this one, I'm afraid.

Back for round five. Lets see what this latest batch has to offer! We've got a bit more slice of life again (which is absolutely no problem for me: just leaves the Dash award even more open for Weatherpony, if you ask me!) but the theme that dominates this round is actually mystery, which I wasn't expecting.

If you've not already checked out some of the other blogs I've done like this, you can check them out here:

Scribblefest 2016 Winners Announced! · 10:03am Apr 14th, 2016

Okidok, at around the same time me and the other admins of HazMat wrapped up our own contest, the results of the EFNW Scribblefest also arrived. There was only one story that got a winning category that I didn't read (the Twilight award, which interestingly was the one I figured two other stories would have a shot at winning) so I can say with pretty reasonable confidence that I'm happy with all the winning entries (even the poem one. I still hate poetry with a vengeance, though, but I do think

Hap Recommends Scribblefest Entries #1 · 6:57pm Mar 8th, 2016

Since I very rarely actually take any time to read things outside of TGB stuff, I always like doing brief reviews and/or recommendations of other stories that appear in contests, particularly the EFNW contests, since they often have nice convenient word limits I can easily digest. So, that's what I'll be doing now: taking a look at some of the contest entries and giving a few thoughts on them, as well try and recommend them to anyone who might be interested. So, let's dive right in! See below

This story was introduced to me after reading Hat Man's reviews on other Scribblefest stories, and it immediately piqued my interest for a large number of reasons. The first was some similarities between this and my own entry, as both featured an Earth pony taking to the skies, as well as being more interested in the technical aspects of it, which appealed to my engineering background. I have, in fact, studied aerospace and find it very interesting.

And I'm back for round 2! I've gotten through another three stories that have all been submitted to the 2016 Scribblefest and I'm going to give my own thoughts regarding whether I liked them or not and who I'd recommend them to, depending on your tastes. Hopefully a few of you will find something cool to read from these blogs, and if you already found something you enjoyed, please post it in the comments below, so I can make reading it a priority.

Hap Recommends More Scribblefest Entries #3 · 4:39pm Mar 9th, 2016

I've done my best to find some different tags this time around for round 3. This time, I have a rather wider variety of stories that I read. I've got a dark tag, a comedy tag, a romance tag, a random tag, a horror tag, even, and of course, another slice of life tag. With a bit of luck, this batch should be a lot more varied, and might interest a few more of you. Let's begin!

Back again for more recommendations from the EFNW 2016 Scribblefest. I've managed to scavenge a fair bit of variety for these three, which is pretty neat, and maybe you'll find something you might enjoy giving a read.

If you've not already checked out some of the other blog posts I've done, be sure to give them a look: there are some pretty decent stories in some of my previous recommendation blogs, so do give them a look if you have the time. And now, onwards!

Hap Recommends Moar Scribblefest #6 · 4:10pm Mar 12th, 2016

Hello again. This time around I've been trying to look for stories that got less exposure than some of the others I looked for in the hopes of finding some really good ones that might have simply fallen by the wayside. Unfortunately, that plan seems to have backfired since a few of them didn't really do much for me. However, this is why I haven't read other, heavily viewed stories with very large ratings. In fact, some of these stories had so few votes that they simply didn't show up.
