So, I saw the first 10 minutes of “Rollercoaster of Friendship” yesterday, and I’m so confused. Rarity and Applejack were acting unusually chummy with each other. I mean, the special seems to be building up on the idea of the two of them being best friends. I mean, I don’t object to the idea of them being best friends. It’s just that none of their interactions prior to this special strongly support that idea.
Oh hey, new Equestria Girls out of nowhere!
To be honest, I kind of dig the unexpected nature of these. Or at least unexpected to me, as I'm not pony-hungry enough to hang onto every leak and release date. I wasn't really aware of it 'til I saw Presentperfect going on about it, and when Presentperfect mentioned it was hella Rarijack, well, then, I pretty much had to watch.
AND HOLY SHIT WAS IT RARIJACK.
But I digress.
Oh good, something to tide me over during the hiatus.
I think it's official: I'm too old to be watching Equestria Girls.
In my defense, I think the show runners are, too. :B
I finished watching “Rollercoaster of Friendship” today, and I’m both underwhelmed and confused. I’m going to have to keep this blunt because I have other responsibilities that I need to be attending to, so let’s go.
Here's a break from my usual existential whining to tell you guys about a brand new Equestria Girls Special.
That's right, and Roller Coaster of Friendship is now watchable online through various sources. (I'd link them but they're not allowed on the site, go find it on Equestria Daily.)
I've been noticing something of late. Certain high profile Equestria Girls fans on this site are complaining about the alleged lack of villainy from Vignette Valencia in "Rollercoaster of Friendship." They claim she was boring and the whole social media maven thing wasn't even worth the effort and she was a one-note villain.
Grading Scale:
A (fantastic episode)
A- (an excellent episode with at least one flaw)
B+ (a great episode with a couple of flaws)
B (a good episode which still could have been better)
B- (a good episode with numerous flaws but still rewatchable)
I had a thought last night with the announcement that the next major EQG special, "Spring Breakdown," is due to air March 30th.
I saw Rollercoaster of Friendship. In truth, I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the others, but I did still enjoy it. There are some things I want to focus on a little, though.
Ever wanted to ride an MLP theme park ride?
Again, since Rollercoaster of Friendship was released in the middle of Season 8, might as well rank it on the same blog.
0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, nothing to be gained from watching it, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone, completely butchers an important subject/teaches a horrible and downright toxic moral)
A bit ironic that they seemed to forget to advertise this special rather than the one involving memory magic. Still, it’s here and we can take a look at something I don’t believe we’ve ever seen before: A story set in the human world that’s longer than a few minutes and doesn’t focus on Sunset or a Twilight.
The less rambly version of my timeline for Equestria Girls can be found below. Specific details as to why x or y decision was made can be found in the "Let's Talk Timelines!" blogs. Please note that as far as the comic stories or Equestria Girls novels are concerned, I consider what happens in the animated series to be the priority, with select elements from the comics and novels either included or ignored for the sake of clarity. My own stories are also included in this timeline for your
