    River City Equestria Girls?

Seriously, that's Pinkie Pie on the left, and Rainbow Dash on the right. Tell me I'm wrong.

I will not write a fanfic about the two of them getting into all the fights.

    Probably.

An "I don't have livejournal anymore" sort of update.

    It snowed yesterday.

Which just reminded me how much I don't like winter. It wasn't even a bad snow, just enough of a dusting to linger for a little bit. First one of the season. And I even had the day off from work, due to my schedule, so it's not like I had to do anything ...

    So I didn't.

    Happy Halloween!

So yeah. Despite various distractions (Steam had Darkest Dungeon for UNDER FOUR BUCKS), I've managed to hammer out a ridiculously shippy conclusion to the self indulgent Rarijack story I started.

So that's fun? I gave myself a deadline to finish things on Oct 31, so that's what I did, dangit. Hopefully you guys will enjoy.

Wherein Tumbleweed talks about a cartoon for little girls. Again. · 3:47am Jul 8th, 2018

Oh hey, new Equestria Girls out of nowhere!

To be honest, I kind of dig the unexpected nature of these. Or at least unexpected to me, as I'm not pony-hungry enough to hang onto every leak and release date. I wasn't really aware of it 'til I saw Presentperfect going on about it, and when Presentperfect mentioned it was hella Rarijack, well, then, I pretty much had to watch.

AND HOLY SHIT WAS IT RARIJACK.

But I digress.

There's a lot to dislike about this new ... uh, episode? Moviesode? 45 minute cartoon distraction? The whole 'Amusement Park' setting smells like something Hasbro came up with To Sell Toys, so yeah. And I will admit, Selfiegirl Whatsherface is the weakest EQG villain we've gotten so far. Of course, all EQG villains pale in comparison to the literal force of nature that is Gloriousa Daisy.

Even still, I ... kind of can see what they're going for here. Sci fi and fantasy are best used as ways to comment on modern society, and to be honest, 'your snapchat friends are bullshit' is not a bad message to give to tiny childrens. The whole message is done terribly clumsily, of course, but I gotta give 'em points for trying. Plus, y'know, this is supposed to be a kids show, so it's not like they're gonna be subtle and nuanced.

And again, you guys, how about that Rarijack? I mean, they're pretty much on the Lyra/Bon Bon level of "Best Friends" here. Looking into each other's eyes, blushing, holding hands ... I don't expect the show to go Full Gay(tm) like, say, Steven Universe, but still. Maybe we'll get Finale Gay(tm), like The Legend of Korra. So, uh, something to look forward to in S9, right?

Really I've been shipping Rarijack back since 2011, back before the ship had a proper name, so I am entirely too thrilled with this sort of thing.

Oh, and this new cartoon also gives us Flim & Flam as dirty carnies, which is totally worth it.

I'll probably get around to writing more EQG fics at ... some point, but I'm juggling enough stuff as-is. Go figure.

That's a funny way to spell 'Adagio Dazzle'. :V

I've only watched half of the special so far, but yeah, it's nice to see Rarijack get the focus instead of the usual Twilight/Sunset. The special is surprisingly funny, too, even if the plot could be better.

Bah. Bah, I say!

HOT TAKE TIME: The Dazzlings are pretty boring. They've got basically the same plan that Sunset Shimmer did (make everybody mad at each other and then do magic shenanigans for profit), and their motivation is basically 'because we're monsters.' And personality wise, you've got The Bitchy One, the Other Bitchy One, and The Ditz, and ... well, there's not much to dig into, there.

Whereas Gloriousa Daisy actually has a goal I can get behind. I mean, turning into a vengeful dryad is a pretty cool way to stop a camp from getting razed to make room for a country club.

Simple, but effective imo, like Sombra.

Gloriosa has the best motivation of any mlp villain by far though. Her struggle was pretty damn real.
