Pythagorean Mentality · 4:18pm Aug 27th, 2016

Ask anyone I know personally, and they'll tell you that I like mathematics, simplicity, and ease of access to information.
Never is this more true than when I find a number in my life that has significance to me, and an easily noticed mathematical quirk to it.
I like finding simple ratios in the ratings of my stories, pulling apart the systems by which stories are ranked, and I sigh with the mental ease of finding a perfect square number somewhere of value.

Vanishing sets and ideals · 11:52pm Jul 5th, 2022

This is my third time trying to write this post. The previous two times, I failed to find a way to write about this well, so I'll instead write about it badly.

I started trying to understand algebraic geometry (very) recently, and I bumped into what's called the Nullstellensatz. I haven't understood it yet, but there's a slice of the intuition that I found fascinating.

So my brother is doing stuff with math, IF you like the kind of math he's talking about. you'll find this video interesting..

If not, then this blog isn't for you, and frankly it isn't for me either. It's for my brother so more people see his work in the frontiers of math.

I am super trashed and I had a great Passover night, so here’s my brother’s Doctoral thesis · 1:41am Mar 31st, 2018

The title is “THE LEIBNIZ FORMULA FOR DIVIDED DIFFERENCE OPERATORS ASSOCIATED TO KAC-MOODY ROOT SYSTEMS”.

If you’re interested in that sort of thing, here it is.

My brother’s Doctoral thesis.

I’ll let him know how people respond, if anyone does.

The real failure of democracy in the United States · 6:33am Nov 20th, 2016

A lot of people are bemoaning Trump’s election as a failure of democracy. I think the reactions of the losing party reveal a bigger failure (which both parties are guilty of):

“Hillary failed to motivate the Democratic base.” (I hate the term “base”. It means “the extremists”.)

“Clinton got only 88% of the black vote. Obama got 93%.” (Should have run someone who would have been the first black president again instead.)

Writing: Short-shorts and the word-count donut hole · 10:40pm Jul 4th, 2012

I've said before that the story length between short-short, and 10,000 words, is very hard. Short shorts, under 1500 words, have just one or two scenes and jump directly into the action. Stories over 12,000 words are long enough that I can rearrange the order of presentation to put something catchy at the front. But 2,000-8,000 words is hell – there aren’t enough scenes to rearrange them, yet there’s too much setup necessary to start at the beginning.

@#& *&#$%#$% #$%$#%!!! (recommendation system killed) · 4:06pm Oct 24th, 2014

After the recent site update, the list of users who favorited a story is NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

That's a catastrophe for my recommendation system. With favorites by story, I could just pull the favorites on the top 1000 stories, and that provided enough data to bootstrap the system. More importantly, I could get the favorites off new stories as they come out.

Reckoning: Epoch Time Between Illusionary Worlds · 2:09am Jan 26th, 2017

[Music]

E is Equestria while V is Valley. 7 days on E is = to 2 months in V but when the bridge between E and V are open, time is ≠ to V instead = to E. I must find the time difference between E and V by days...
6 (d = Days)
60d / 7d = 8.57d (Let us imagine that every month on E is 30d, this is where I get 60d, 2 months adds up to 60d)

The Calculus of Life · 8:19am Sep 23rd, 2015

This has a lot more to it than just me being in Calculus III!

You know, I look around myself daily, and see so many people. So many lives, so many stories lived, and I am one of them; I get to live my own personal life story, and no one else gets to. It's interesting, peculiar, for one.

Advanced math lessons are not practical in real life · 12:09pm Mar 3rd, 2020

We all studied math, right? Algebra, calculus, trigonometry, solving x's and y's, etc. I'm sure you also encounter the quadratic formula.

Well, when you enter the corporate world, did you realize that these lessons are not useful after all? I sure am.

Math · 2:51pm Aug 21st, 2015

Why's math so important? I mean, I get it, math is important, even if I don't like it so much, but that isn't the problem. The problem is, at least for me, why is it so important in the structure of my classes which level math you're in? I'm at grade level, but I'm friends with all these geniuses who aren't, so I get no time with them at all? I mean, that would be okay if I got to hang out with them AFTER school, but no, I have no social life. On half days, when everyone else goes out to the
