Present Perfect vs. Rollercoaster of Friendship · 5:17pm Jul 7th, 2018
I think it's official: I'm too old to be watching Equestria Girls.
In my defense, I think the show runners are, too. :B
Like, seriously, a villain whose motivation is she spends all her time voguing for horse Snapchat? And she makes people disappear by taking pictures of them with her phone. What. It doesn't help that this is basically just Juniper Montage again. <.< Or that Vignette is excruciatingly annoying. Literally the only thing she did that didn't make me want to punch her was that part where she pronounces the long, ridiculous abbreviation she just made up.
But what can you really expect from a team who comes up with a line like "If we're in the internet, we can hack our way out"? :|
What really bothers me is AJ and Rainbow, though. Like, Applejack would not value working for someone else over working on her family's farm. And do I even need to mention the problem of Rainbow Dash having issues with a rollercoaster? c.c When was this made?
Not digging the new magical girl uniforms, though. The ones from Friendship Forgotten were better.
Not all bad, though, if you ignore the wanton character destruction and unoriginal villain. Plenty of laughs, plenty of Rarijack, and of course it's always a good time when they just let Tabitha loose to do what she does best. I particularly enjoyed the sequence with the Flim-Flam Brothers. That look Sunset has after Twilight launches into her first nerd tirade says, "My girlfriend is so smart, she's an idiot." XD
Roseluck and her grandma, though. :D (Yeah, and Meghan.)
But yeah, overall I'm just caught up by how derivative the main action felt, and nothing else really bolstered that up enough to lift this above 'meh' as far as I'm concerned.
But remember: chimney = ass.
There was a much better villain like this in Miraculous Ladybug, except in that case he teleported people into some sort of white void pocket dimension
Big Jim: "It'S jUsT a LiTtlE GiRl's sHoW yOu GuYs"
Equestria Girls: "Let's make a character who is a teenage cam girl and have her purr seductively into her phone because wow that's so mature, right?"
Gen 5 can't wipe this all away fast enough.
...Steven Universe just had a big episode dump. >_>
The words Rarijack tempt me greatly, but this is going on the to-watch backburner.
Fuck. The rollercoaster.
I previewed this during certain events that happened months ago. And I have an explainatuon about dash and the fear of heights.
Human rainbow can't fly. Pony rainbow can. Strapping yourself into a rickety pos thing than can kill you because of something soemone else did or didn't do. Pony dash doesn't have that problem because she flies under her own power and stuff like the Applejack powered seesaw launching device are still done on her terms. So it's not a fear of heights or lack thereof. It's fear that cut rate carnies will be the death of you. Which sounds less silly.
Now excuse me. I have to go compete in the 200m rationalization in a few minutes
Rarijack, you say? Well then...
Um, the magical girl outfits were the same as Forgotten Friendship.

“Little girl”-focused shows with human-shaped characters are still waiting for their Faust moment, I’d wager.
It's been shown a lot that Rainbow isn't nearly as brave as she pretends to be.
Honestly, should I even bother watching this one?

In the background of just about every scene, you can hear old men rattling their canes like sabers.
"Curse these milleni-whatsits and their Snapgaps and Mystables! They spend so much time on Instagram, they don't have no time fer Gram-Gram!"
Also, just remember that this is the episode where Applejack was hit on by an elderly man.
4896710
Shit, even Applejack's dumbass ugly one. o.O Well heck.
4896713
Meanwhile, Lauren Faust is rolling in her grave. :B
Oh, she's dead all right. Inside.
4896758
Not really. :/
4896623
So, Juniper Montage.
4896820
With a bit better design

The EqG character models looking like they're stuck in that awkward-and-gangly-since-puberty-isn't-even-half-done-with-me phase of being a teen isn't helping either
Oh hey, new cartoon thing?
Aaaaand I'm seven minutes in and holy crap this is the Rarijackiest thing I have ever watched. I mean, it's pretty much text that they're dating by this point, isn't it?
4896855
Yeah, basically. :B
Just wish the rest of it was better.
4896969
Man it had Flim & Flam as dirty carnies and I can't think of anything else I'd ask from a magic horsegirl cartoon.

Hey, at least you like Rarijack. :V
For me, it's just one more piece of the whole thing that seems to have been "well, we want this to happen, so it will! support it? nah." Which was basically the whole plot after they got to the park. Worst part is, if they'd just rearranged things a bit (start with running into Rainbow, make some indication she's really looking at that point/call and start getting really concerned, paranoid/overdoing it because of her jealousy, then getting proof) Applejack could have been right for the right reasons.
Also there was this:
--As a dismissal. Yeah, at least this AJ doesn't actually respect what Rarity does either. :V
So I have that. :D
Best part (besides letting Tabitha be Tabitha) for me was "We sing songs together."
Watched it... really, I think this one keeps pace with the other EQG movies. They all have perks and flaws (except for the first). Roller Coaster finally broke the mold of EQG being the Sunset Shimmer Show, made it so the girls' friendships weren't utterly interchangeable with each other, and put Rarijack in a believable conflict even without the magic.
Of course, the villain was the usual carbon-stamp, the explanation lacked even Wallflower's "Oh, I found the magic in the ground," and the resolution to the white room removed every bit of tension from the climax... but hey, I could laundry list everything wrong with Rainbow Rocks, too. >_>
I admit my fondness for EQG AJ and Rarijack in general bias me greatly (this was the closest they'll ever get to canonizing it) in favor. But let's be real, if the movie gave us this

for Twilight and Sunset, you'd be all over it.
