Photography stuff · 1:48am Oct 14th, 2021
Hey! Turns out it's really hard to write while recovering from one surgery and having an even bigger one on Monday, so I've been doing more photography stuff after the break.

My one rule of writing love is this; Show what two characters get from each other that they couldn’t get from anyone else, and make it obvious that they are lesser without it.
My dog Sparky was put to sleep today. It hurts because his body failed long before his mind did. He had a long life, sixteen years, and it was a good life. He was loved. He was very deeply loved.
Finally managed to buy an old Nikon D3400 second hand from a pawn shop. I might have gone a little overboard in the last 48 hours with it. Pictures after the break.
More after the break. Full credit to Carabas for asking after the pretty sunrise over the river pictures.
So I did create a Deviantart account for my photography. So if possible, can you check me out and let me know what you think? I only have 2 pictures on right now, but I will add more soon.
I am preparing El 🇵lan for some good hiking up in the mountains this weekend. My hope is, (1) to get some good pictures, and (2) that the last picture on the memory card isn't of a charging black bear. (It's that time of year.)
I don't think we're to deer season yet, but I'm going to wear a loud-colored jacket just to be safe.
So if you're anywhere in the eastern US, you might have heard about the emerging cicadas that are coming out from under tree roots to mate after sustaining on tree root sap for 17 years.
My locale is smack in the middle of Brood X, one of the largest cicada swarms, last seen above ground in 2004. So I went out this morning and put my 40mm micro lens to good work. Millions will emerge over the next 2-6 weeks.
If insects creep you out, stop now.
Returned home from vacation safely.
Photo dump coming soon, likely in multiple blog entries, curated from a total of 633 photos taken over two-and-a-half days.
That certainly wouldn't have been possible without the most unexpected find upon first getting to the campground:
There's a good chance that I'm not going to be on the site much for awhile. Why? Road trip! Tomorrow morning I'm leaving on what should be a two-month, 15,000 km road trip across the US and Canada. The main purpose of the trip is to visit family in St. Louis, but there's nothing saying I can't drive so much more. I'm hoping to do a loop through the southeast to visit the few States that I'm missing in that area: South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Then on the return,
Tomorrow, I begin my trip to Utah! I'll see you all in four days! ^-^ I'll begin uploading stories when I get back!
Well, this sucks.
Listen, I'm in a country which has free healthcare for most things that aren't dental, so I'm not nearly as bad off as I could be. I just have a really messed up jaw. Like, if I want to talk for long periods, or like, eat, I need to dislocate it just about every time to do that. Braces fixed it when I was a kid but, over the last few years, turns out it wasn't enough and now it's bad enough it's like I never had them at all.
Because I’ve fixed a lot of problems in my life, I’ve got a clearer view of what was underneath them. Like when you clear off all the stuff on your bedroom floor looking for your wallet, and end up finding the unopened mail you forgot you were putting off. I mean, I assume, I’m never actually going to pick the actual clothes in my room up to find out.

Discord's started adding 5:2 backgrounds for people, so I thought, well, this is the exact kind of thing I've been doing photography for, isn't it? I ended up using this one for myself.
Interesting times, walking around a convention where many of the fans walk around with plushies. I was surprised to find that there were plenty of people, both male and female, in the over 40 crowd that were indeed fans, not just towing tots. Sure, the mane population fit the usual demographic of 15-25, but at least 25% were more mature.
Haven't been writing at all.
SWTOR, Netflix, photography, and work, that's been my routine the past couple weeks. Went for a morning walk through a small forest park on the other side of town. Made me miss living on that side.
Inspiration has been fleeting due to the stress of my dissertation. So, while I try to get my creative mojo going again, allow me to distract you all with pretty pictures of tiny plants taken with the super-macro setting on my camera (my actual camera. I don't have a smart phone, nor do I want one).
First up - Liverworts!
